In her latest column, FPL Community’s Holly Shand reveals why she’ll be resisting the urge to cash in on premium Liverpool assets this weekend.

The hard work has been done to be prepared for Gameweek 18 but I’ve paid very little thought to what happens beyond this point for my side. I’ve clawed my way up from a rank of 1.5 million to the top 400k but fear the impact of Wildcards from those around me. How can I keep moving up?

We appear to have hit a crossroads surrounding Liverpool players. My gut feeling was to hold Sadio Mane (£12.2m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.3m) but I’m seeing a lot of talk within the community on moving them on (including from fellow Pro Pundit Andy). I’m in a fortunate position of having the likes of Matt Targett (£4.4m), Todd Cantwell (£4.7m) and Martin Kelly (£4.4m) to come in for me and start in Gameweek 18, which does make the decision a little easier.

Now I do struggle with patience a little more than the average Fantasy manager, and more so when I see expensive players on my bench instead of the pitch. Having zero funds in the bank does little to help me to become more patient, while sitting on the most expensive player and most costly defender in the game. In fact, a move away from Alexander-Arnold to a budget defender could free up as much as £3.0m.

I love projections when it comes to making transfer decisions, regularly utilising the feature in the Members Area. Despite the perceived tough fixtures for Liverpool (with Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United all in the schedule after the blank), Salah and Mane are still projected to be comfortably among the top ten scoring midfielders. When it comes to defenders, Alexander-Arnold is projected to be top for FPL points, with one fixture less than his nearest competition. That is very telling!

Alexander-Arnold has three returns in his last four, only hampered by rotation in Gameweek 17 and remember, Liverpool have just kept two clean sheets on the bounce.

In my thinking beyond Gameweek 18, I’d love to add Mohamed Salah (£12.2m) to my midfield. Liverpool were in a similar position of having tough fixtures last Christmas, with many managers jumping ship to Manchester City assets, but they won every single game convincingly, with Salah himself having a particularly fruitful festive period.

We can see from Jurgen Klopp’s teamsheets in the FIFA Club World Cup exactly where his priorities lie. This season is Liverpool’s best chance of winning the title in the Premier League era, nipping at Manchester United’s heels for the most titles in history.

Liverpool are not going to be taking their foot off the gas anytime soon, tough fixtures or otherwise. They’ve been labelled as bottlers too many times for Klopp to jeopardise their title chances.

They might have an eight-point lead but until they are over the line and the Premier League trophy is in their hands, I’ll be holding their assets in my FPL team and might even embrace a triple up.

Holly, the founder of FPL Community, has two top 10k finishes in five FPL seasons, is a regular guest on the FPL Show and recent addition to the Scoutcast line-up.

Form over fixtures ... but I´ve noticed how Mané has had a slump in December-early January past two seasons, feels like it is happening again. Meanwhile Salah peaks during the same period, partly because Klopp once again decides to position him as striker.

Ok. Bit of a dilemma here. I'm wondering whether to buy Iwobi or Grealish for this week. I think Iwobi could definitely bag against Arsenal, but I also think there is potential for AV to hit Southampton for a few this week as well. I could take both, but for a -4 hit. So should I go for:

    A) Iwobi
    B) Grealish
    C) Both (-4)

I think it’s actually the opposite and that it leads to more goals - not based on any statistics I can provide but I feel defenders are more likely to make errors and we’re therefore more likely to thrive - I would imagine those with pace could struggle though through getting ‘stuck in the mud’ a bit?

Norwich should come onto Wolves and I can see Jota and Traore having a field day in the counter. Norwich have been much more defensive away from home but fancy them to leak at least a couple at home.

Jimenez here also: Probably the most reliable return man outside of Vardy since the last international break; his ceiling may not be as high as the likes of Son and others, but for this tricky gameweek I am less inclined to favor a risky larger haul over a smaller (6-10) point haul.

I want to captain Son but feel like double spurs attack and a captain is too much vs a top 6 side. Ik its silly considering son will score just as much whether i owned Alli or not but just the fact i own both is making me lean towards KDB for the captaincy. Probably stupid ik..

I would have brought in Rich instead of Alli (and maybe captained him), but the two managerial changes make that fixture too much of a ?, never mind captaining a player in it.

Yeh, agreed. Think i'm gonna play it safe with Alli. Rich also on 4 YC's along with a lot of my players

Adama is gonna destroy Cantwell and Byram. Hope he hauls and Nuno plays him. Looks promising....

    —-
Traore dislocated his shoulder towards the end of the Spurs game. But he has trained all week and is set to figure in Wolves' Premier League game at Norwich City today.

“He dislocated it but fortunately the medic was able to put it back in,” added Nuno. "He's improving. He's in the squad, so we decide after.”

    Is this worth a -8?

Mane, pulisic, Abraham, mousset > rash, kane, richarlison, 5.2m mid

    Alternative is a -4 for

Puli, mane, mousset > kane, trossard, richarlison

What I will say is that your 4 new players will certainly outscore the first 4 this week by 8.
But you'd want Mane/Salah back quite quick wouldn't you?
I'm more for a -4. Alternatively if you have a decent bench you dont even have to get rid of mane. I got rid of Salah as my bench was awful/injured.

I have a good bench and team but thinking of attacking fixtures and doing something bold and adventurous. I wouldn't captain my pool any of next 3 so don't see the value there :/

      I would probably start Maddison.

Tammy still feels a bit light vs top teams.

Maddison is often used as a counterattacking spearhead (together with Vardy of course) vs top teams. The goal he scored against Liverpool is a great example. Also, City are quite bad at defending set pieces, especially corners - assist potential.

You need to captain Jimenez... Rashford blank incoming 😉

      Pope
      Aurier - Lundstram - Dunk
      Zaha - KdB - Alli - Maddison
      Jimenez - Vardy - Jota

      4m - Mané - TAA - Soyuncu

Jimenez can be explosive but Wolves play quite cautiously. That style struggles if teams don’t come on to them, but I think at home, Norwich will.

Am anticipating a 1-3 type score line.

all seven, Alli drawn second last as VC and Rashford C... funnily enough Rashford was prob the only one of the seven that I hadn't considered as I never captain MUN players, hopefully will get lucky 🙂

I feel my players in will outscore my players out by 8 points and feel my team is well set up now for the festive period. Nothing to lose anyway as having a horrific time of it at 850k ish

you are not THAT far away though, i´m 450k and 30 points above you, meanwhile i see 20 points above and there´s the 200k mark. Long way to top 10 k, but after my bad start being 3.5 at the lowest in gw 9 i´m surprised to see how close it is to what i would say is a respectable place. I´m not sure but i think my last season i was not much better off than this one, but i was not that low. My best periods use to be this time of year, coincidentally the time of year people falling off, so it makes me a somewhat ordinary player, but i can live with that.
