Despite Manchester City having a fine-looking home fixture against West Ham United on Sunday, the top 10,000 managers in Fantasy Premier League have largely backed Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) for the Gameweek 26 captaincy.

Over two-thirds of the top 10k tossed the armband to the Egyptian ahead of this morning’s deadline, although they’ll have to wait a week before they see the premium midfielder in action.

Salah and Kevin De Bruyne (£10.8m) are both owned by over 90% of the managers within the top 10,000 but significantly fewer Fantasy bosses have made the Belgian their skipper.

Only 8.42% of this elite bunch have captained De Bruyne, which isn’t enough to lift his effective ownership (a figure influenced by captaincies and benchings) beyond the 100% mark.

Sergio Aguero (£12.1m), indeed is a more popular captaincy pick in the top 10,000 despite being owned by around one-third of the FPL managers that De Bruyne is.

Over half of the Argentine striker’s owners within the top 10,000 have skippered him in Gameweek 26.

Outside of the premium trio we have mentioned above, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.8m) is the only other FPL asset to have been captained by more than 1% of the top 10k in Gameweek 26.

De Bruyne is the most-popular vice-captain candidate, meanwhile.

It was a fairly quiet week in terms of chip usage, with only a smattering of the top 10,000 deploying their Triple Captain (30), Free Hit (16) or Bench Boost (60) chips.

The second Wildcard was a more popular option, however, with almost 400 of our leading managers overhauling their squads.

The Triple Captain remains the most-used chip in the second half of the campaign, with Double Gameweek 24 accounting for a large chunk of the figure above.

John Lundstram‘s (£5.0m) loss of a first-team place – amongst other factors – might have been a big trigger in terms of Wildcard deployment, with the ‘out of position’ FPL defender so widely owned.

Lundstram understandably doesn’t feature in the Gameweek 26 Wildcard template above, with Dean Henderson (£5.1m) instead proving the most popular route into the Sheffield United backline despite blanks in Gameweek 28 and 31.

The fact that Nick Pope (£4.7m) is so highly owned perhaps suggests some of the more forward-thinking of our top 10k have accounted for this with a playing reserve shot-stopper.

Salah, De Bruyne and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.7m) are highly owned options in these Wildcard squads, with Danny Ings (£7.0m) the most-popular forward.

Compared to the overall template below, there are a not-insignificant seven differences – which could dramatically affect the ranks of those who used their Wildcard in Gameweek 26, for better or for worse.

In terms of the overall template in the top 10k, there are two changes to the ‘most-owned’ squad from Gameweek 25: Henderson and Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) replacing Pope and Diego Rico (£4.3m).

Sadio Mane (£12.2m), incidentally, is now only owned by 13.74% of the leading group of Fantasy managers – a dramatic drop on his ownership figure of 75% ahead of Double Gameweek 24.

As we ready ourselves for the blanks and doubles on the horizon, many of the top 10k still have plenty of chips in hand.

Around one in seven haven’t used any, while just over 50% still have three chips in their back pocket.

Approximately one in ten of the top 10k have just one chip remaining, while 3.6% have already maxed out.

Don’t forget he was doing well at for the first 15-20 weeks. One of the top keepers. Pope has only just taken over recently.

Also having Ryan (and Button) has also saved you 0.5m for the rest of the squad.

Everyone (including me) who had two rotating 4.5s has lost out on points and had 0.5m less to play with.

Everyone who’s had the right 4.5 keeper, with 4.0 on the bench for all of the season are either very lucky or very good.

Last week should have been one really - SU didn’t look like scoring at all before Guaita did his thing.

The goals conceded column was still fairly healthy until this week - mostly just a goal a game. But in honesty we’ve looked poor for a while - really poor much of the time.

As I already WC'ed, I am tempted to BENCH BOOST GW 27.

I can get this team with my 2 FTs:

    Henderson
    TAA - VVD - Stephens
    Salah - Kdb - Grealish - Traore
    Auba - Jimenez - Ings

    My bench:

    McCarthy (AVL)
    Taylor (BOU)
    Fleck (BHA)
    Lascelles (cry)

I know DGW are best for doing this but without a WC, I could end up getting a few hits and maybe weakening my starting 11

    Thoughts?

Go for it, BB can be awesome but can also be a useless chip I used mine up about GW6 I think.

Last couple of seasons I have Wildcarded just to BB and it has been a massive mistake as you end up spreading value over the whole team for 1 week.

Just use it whenever feels right and next week looks good.

I think freeing yourself from the Chip prior to DGWs means you can focus the strategy for the rest of the season on a strong XI, and the later you leave it, the more rotation can be an issue. It may not be necessarily the best strategy, but it is a valid one, but as always, it is very dependant on your person team.

When they play doesn’t really matter though does it.
You’ve nailed your colours to the mast going for 10 players from Liverpool, City, Southampton and SHU.

      Booms or busts.

I don’t think so, unless you’re really worried about the price drop ruining your team.

He was a luxury that became a necessity. If you can’t field 11 players because he’s not playing, then you’ve got 3 other blokes who need looking at too.

Does anyone know, or have confidence in who the Burnley full backs will be for the rest of the season?

Why’s Dyche switched them so much? Is it injuries or poor performances?

I’m thinking of fighting through GW31 with some Burnley players at the back, WC32, FH34, BB37.

Nailing the two Burnley fullbacks for under 9m would be lovely, getting the wrong two could be disastrous.

Assume just the 3 matches with Everton / Norwich being the 3rd

Put together a FH team with those players and then ask yourself, do you really want to build up a gw31 team slowly and then be stuck with those player.

Even if it's Spurs / West Ham instead, it still isn't much better - I would have over 15m left itb

For me it's either Liverpool have to be playing in gw31 or I use a FH

      1. Marmalade Forest
        • 9 Years
        6 years, 6 months ago

I’ve already got 3 Wolves, Pope, DCL or Alli so I’m halfway to fielding a team.

I can bench my 3 Liverpool assets that week, so if slowly sell the rest of my squad to field 9-11 I’m happy. I should only lose ground to people who FH in the Watford goal scorer or anyone who brings in and captains Wilson.

We know by GW29 who else will play GW31, so maybe take a hit at that point to bring in Son or Richarlison.

Playing the WC in 32 and knowing the revised fixture schedule means I can sort the rest of the season out keeping the FH for the perfect team in GW34 and build to the best 15 men for DGW37 and the BB.

Using a FH with only 6 teams to pick from makes me feel empty inside.

I know there's not going to be much available - I posted the best FH teams I could make earlier (comment 21662581)
          https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/21662581

I did think about slow build up and then WC in 32 but there most of the teams in 31 have poor fixtures in 30 - e.g. Everton home to Liverpool and Burnley away to Man City

Another factor is that gw34 should be easy to manage - a max of 4 teams in the cup SF, some of those will have midweek fixtures instead ... so no need for a FH or WC for gw34

After 31 and ignoring 38, there are only the 6 game weeks and I would still need to play WC, BB and TC ... that's more that enough chips to handle, so I think 31 is the best use for my FH ... no negative build up and no need to WC to fix it in 32

          1. Fulchester's New Centr…
            • 9 Years

Look at those FH teams! Quite literally the best players available all across the pitch and £16/£20 million left over - not saying it is, but feels like a waste.

Maybe bring in 2 more from Burnley, Mee & Wood) as they have CRY (away) in 32
Possible punt on Ake or Wilson as they have Newcastle at home in 32

hard to grasp Ramsdales true level with that Cherries defence in front of him, but he has done well. All of the mentioned are better than Pickford IMO. Pickford is good with his feet, but I think I would prefer a keeper who is good with their hands and has presence.

So bored of Enlgand being "nice" and having loyalities to certain players because of the team they play for or past performances. Its pretty simple really, pick the best player for the spot, thats all.

That is extremely harsh on Joe Hart i must say (don´t ask me how i got here)

Joe Hart once was a good goalie, Pickford never been that and never will be.

Anyone seen the striker SHU got on loan, Zivkovic in action?

Nice price and hoping he starts this weekend. Cannot be worse than what they currently have up top.

Haven't seen him but definitely has potential. Though can't judge on Dutch and Chinese league standards and YouTube vids always make a player look good!

Yes, thinking of a risky -8 to get him, Doherty and a cheap forward for my bench in for Robbo, Maddison and Vardy

Well iv kept him since the double gw where I also brought Salah in.
May as well keep him now and see what happens.
Not many replacements at that price range anyway hence why I still have him.
