How will new positions at Man United affect their FPL assets in 2020/21?

Fantasy Premier League managers will have to entirely re-think how best to invest in Manchester United’s attack for the 2020/21 season.

The game-makers at FPL Towers have wielded their position-changing axe and reclassified no fewer than three key Red Devil assets for the new campaign.

Marcus Rashford (£9.5m) and Mason Greenwood (£7.5m) have been converted into midfielders to reflect their roles on the flanks of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking midfield trio, while Anthony Martial (£9.0m) has moved into the forwards bracket.

Fernandes haul raises the bar for top 10k's most popular captain Salah

These changes are sure to impact squad selection for the new season, but could also affect the appeal of Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m) who has remained a midfielder.

To fully assess which of the Manchester United attackers appeal the most for 2020/21, we have pulled out some key statistics from Project Restart, the only time that Fernandes, Rashford, Greenwood and Martial started matches consistently at the same time.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

Which United attacker was in the penalty box most often?

    Evening all!

I took a couple of weeks off (stone him! 😆 ) and went totally off piste so came back this eve forgetting today was relaunch day and seeing Mark is back!

So due to my tardy start I have a shameful team ID of 338710 😉

Hope everyone’s well and looking forward to the madness to begin!

Just for fun here’s my placeholder starting 11:

    McCarthy
    TAA, VVD, Vinagre
Salah, KDB, Ziyech, Greenwood (placeholder), ASM
    Antonio, Jimi
    (Button) (Saliba, Dallas, Davis)

    Cheers

I can't remember where I can find the team id. Thought it was in the "my team" address bar but nope.

Team looks solid. If leeds sign a striker I'd be forgetting about pool double up and getting Ayling with 2m to spend elsewhere

After the game starts you can see it in the URL when you click on the points tab. Now you can see it if you click on gameweek history.

Said in jest. People go crazy on here when the game reopens to get the lowest ID. Obv it means nothing. Only helps with remembering ID for typing into other sites (LiveFPL etc). Last season I somehow managed 5099 😆

    Quick Maths:

Bruno's 117 points from 14 games extrapolate to 317 points in 38 games. 16 attacking returns in 14 games extrapolate to 43 in 38. 4 blanks out of 14 games give 11 blanks out of 38

This is the third time I've done the math out of sheer disbelief

Yes, it's unlikely to stretch for a whole season, and he was neither injured nor rested... But still, bloody hell

NB: They played Wolves, Chelsea, City, Spurs, Sheffield and Leicester in those 14 games, so it wasn't the easy bunch

      • 13 Years

Using PPM to calculate season total rarely works. You're most likely not going to own him for the season and you can maximise your points potential by switching between premiums.

And on the topic of Bruno, it's fair to say a lot of his points aren't sustainable. The frequency and generosity of penalties has been ridiculous.

Spot on. The counter argument you hear from United fans are often they play attacking football and have players that are quick on their feet, which make them more likely to be tripped inside the penaltyare. But let's be real. They broke the record for lodt penalties rewarded during a season. I don't Bruno's price is equivalent to his actual worth FPL wise

      4. Ze_Austin
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 8 months ago

Man U has been in the top 3 for penalties earned per season for... How many seasons now?

As for his other avenues to points, they came from being a great player in a good attack, just like KDB who previously had an FPL-career-high of 209 points in a season where he played more minutes

Fair point on penalties, as he's taken 4 in 14 games, which extrapolates to... 11 penalties in 38 games. 1 fewer than they had all season. Scary team consistency though

Here is what I am going with so far

    Lloris Nyland
    TAA VVD Dunk Ayling Dallas
    Salah Auba *Havertz* Ritchie 4.5
    Werner Antonio Bamford

Will be switching between 442 and 343.

Obviously Havertz needs to sign for Chelsea which is bound to happen soon and have him at 7.5. Can't see him being the same price as Pulisic or more than Ziyech. I may be hyping him but he is a quality player. Versatile too AM, out wide and through the middle. Him and Werner will have great seasons IMO. Luckily for me Werner was not at 10.0 or more otherwise I would not have considered him.

No City or UTD which is part of my strategy to not follow the herd this season.

If Havertz does not join CHE then back to the drawing board.

194 points for 8.5 still seems like decent value to me. It was only 16 points behind the top forward.

Do people think they are going to get significantly more points than this from a guy like Werner?

Yeah, I guess I am one of few who doesn't expect an 8.5 player to be explosive or captainable.

Combine 6.0m+ defenders with 8.5m attackers and have only one premium asset as a permacap, with 180-point-season "boring" players spread around your XI, and you have a winning strategy for the more patient managers

            I'm nowhere near that patient

    3. Ze_Austin
      • 5 Years

Doherty tends to outscore Jimenez regularly when Boly's fit

But Jim is still among the best in his own right. It's possible to sacrifice a Robbo/8.5m mid slot for him or lose a premium mid to fit Jim, 7.5 - 8.5 mid and Ings in together

      1. IN SANE IN DE BRUYNE

I've got Doherty, he's a steal at 6.0. Actually have triple Wolves atm with Jimenez, Doherty, and Vinagre.

Maybe I should be trying to squeeze Robbo in, but not seeing many teams with 3 premium defenders either.

    Updated Maths:

Bruno's 117 points from 14 games extrapolate to 317 points in 38 games. 16 attacking returns in 14 games extrapolate to 43 in 38. 4 blanks out of 14 games give 11 blanks out of 38

Bruno scored 4 penalties in those 14 games. Removing 5 goal points and 3 bonus points per penalty (8 points in total removed per pen), we have 117 - 32 = 85 points and 12 attacking returns in 14 games, which extrapolate to 230 points 32 attacking returns in 38 games. Then you add any number of penalties you feel is realistic, with 1 to 3 bonus points for each

    1. FOO FIGHTER

It is very difficult to make up sums based on 14 games. UTD were also in good form when Bruno joined if I can recall. They had one of the best run of fixtures as well. He is a good asset to own but cannot see him bettering Suarez or KDB. Auba will outscore him as a mid. There is also a chance Ole will burn him out as per what happened towards the end of the restart.

He will be up there but UTD may hit another bad patch under Ole and then we will see whether Bruno has what it takes. Don't see it.
