The top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers invested rather modestly in the transfer market during the build-up to Double Gameweek 24.

With Manchester City, Everton, Burnley and Fulham all facing two fixtures, it appears that Double fever did not hit particularly strong either in terms of squad set-up or chip usage.

From the template of most-owned players at this level, just six from a possible 15 were from those four Double Gameweek clubs.

As you can see from the matrix above, the defence was where most of the Double Gameweek investment occurred.

João Cancelo (£6.1m) remains the most-popular defender among top 10,000 managers, owned by 56.9% as of Saturday’s deadline.

John Stones (£5.2m) and Ruben Dias (£6.1m) complete a trio of Manchester City stoppers among the top-five in this position.

The former remains the second-most fashionable defender in the top 10k but Dias’ stock is falling slightly at this level.

He was owned by 42.1% of the top 10k in Gameweek 23; a figure that fell to 38.2% for his first benching of the campaign against Spurs.

Unsurprisingly, James Justin (£5.1m) has dropped out of the top-five drastically following his midweek knee injury.

The Leicester man was in 54.6% of top 10k teams when the previous deadline passed.

Ahead of two fixtures in Double Gameweek 25, Stuart Dallas (£4.8m) appears to have been a popular replacement, firing himself back into the top-five most popular top 10k defenders with 51.9% ownership.

Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) has seen his stock fall once again, helped this time by Burnley’s Double Gameweek.

Nick Pope (£5.5m) replaces the Southampton goalkeeper in the matrix of most-owned players among the top 10k, although Emiliano Martínez (£5.2m) has tightened his control at this level.

58.5% of the top 10k owned him for Gameweek 23 and he earned a rise of 2.9 percentage points between the two most recent deadlines.

Ilkay Gündogan (£6.0m) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.7m) are the only template assets among midfielders and forwards to represent one of Manchester City, Everton, Burnley or Fulham.

And what particularly interests is how the top 10k have responded to Calvert-Lewin’s FA Cup hamstring injury.

Latest FPL injury news on Calvert-Lewin, Pope, Dias, Antonio and other key assets

Carlo Ancelotti ruled the forward out of the meeting with Fulham on Sunday, meaning Calvert-Lewin effectively faces just one fixture in Double Gameweek 24.

That the Toffees are likely to enjoy another Double Gameweek soon seems to have influenced the widely-taken decision to hold Calvert-Lewin.

He was in 47.9% of top 10k squads for Gameweek 23, his ownership at this level falling only as far as 45.9% for Double Gameweek 24.

The captaincy statistics show us how much of a differential Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) can be this week.

Despite not featuring among the top-five most-popular midfielders in the top 10k, he was behind only Gündogan for total armbands in Double Gameweek 24.

The German was overwhelmingly popular skipper, rewarding his 50.4% backing with 19 points in a 3-0 win over Spurs.

But Sterling managed to get himself at least an assist at the Etihad Stadium, which could help him rival Gündogan by the end of the round.

As things stand, the budget midfielder is awaiting an assessment for a groin problem and could be a doubt to face Everton on Wednesday evening.

Bruno Fernandes (£11.5m) managed to convince 9.7% of the top 10k to captain him despite facing just one match in Double Gameweek 24.

That is hardly a surprise, considering West Bromwich Albion have conceded at least twice in each of their last eight Premier League matches.

Meanwhile, the clamour for a Pope captaincy did not amount to too much among the top 10k.

1.9% backing is certainly more than we would normally expect for a goalkeeper, even one playing two favourable opponents, but it was only good enough for fourth-place among the top 10k’s favourite captains.

CHIP USAGE OVERALL

FPL managers gave the chips some consideration for Double Gameweek 24, although less so in the top 10k.

As you can see from the charts above, 3.2% of worldwide Wildcards were deployed this weekend.

2.5% deployed their Triple Captain while a similar number put their Bench Boost into action.

By comparison, the top 10k were less enthusiastic.

Just 2% went for a new squad, 1.6% went for an enhanced armband and only 1.5% had enough faith in their substitutes to pull the trigger on a Bench Boost.

      Bruno?

I get the EO but it depends if its just about rank. Or the set up in your mini leagues.

Not everyone has Bruno in the mini leagues so i still want points.

Fair point, but I don't think I've seen a team without Bruno in any of my leagues for about 3 months.

Just checked a few and there's a couple of teams without him in two leagues that I'm most interested in.

He's also captain for 2 teams but that means they weren't on Gundog.

A couple of my mates from Paris who are pretty good players year in, year out don't have Gundogan in.

That’s surprising. The nine above me in my main league all have Bruno. I don’t see why any serious player wouldn’t have him

One of them doesn’t have Gundo. That’s less surprising to me than not having Bruno though, as I could see someone thinking his form couldn’t last, and there are so many good City options. Definitely a mistake, but more understandable imo

Their double in 26 should be juicy and they should have another appealing double later on which I wanna use TC for on Kane.

I'm interested in Kane, but he's just one of many in-form players. I have a top heavy attack with Laca, so will probably move for Kane, but I wouldn't sacrifice value in mf for him.

Why do you need to tear your team apart to get him? Have you spread your funds across your squad too much? I’ve had over 5 mil in the bank ever since KDB’s injury so only need one transfer to get Kane so yes I’ll be getting him and quite possibly triple captaining.

It's his spot to lose. Take it from a Leeds fan.

Llorente has had a horror injury record since joining. and Koch is out till end Feb early March and Bielsa doesn't rush players back. If everyone is back then you would see both Struijk and Alioski being dropped. But it won't happen this month

I kinda want to use BB / TC in 26. I only have 1 Leeds / Southampton asset now. and would need to take -4 just for Ings and Raph this week.

            This is my current team
            Martinez (Forster)
            Dias Digne Rudiger Lowton (Coufal)
            Bruno Salah Son Sterling Gundo

With bit of a tweak you have a very strong bench in 25, I would take a -4 and bench boost in 25, WC in 26 and concentrate the funds on a strong 11.

When would be a good time to TC then? I will be BB without a bench keeper at this rate and doubts on Dias / Gundo and Antonio which worries me. If all are fit then yes what you said would make sense.

there will be a couple of small doubles later in the season.

I would bring in Meslier, someone for the 4.3 forward and replace Gundo if he looks at risk - then a brand new team based on real live information in 26 without being stuck with too many Leeds and Soton

That's a -8 team tho. Worth to take such a hit?

I kinda want Raph and Ings but it means sacrificing Sterling instead of Gundogan

add up the extra games, think about not missing out on points due to picking the wrong players to start and I think a -8 is then worth it. I should have brought in pope for an extra -4 this week but didn’t ...

I would also consider what hits you may have to take to get what you want in 26, also look at what a non BB team looks like in 26 and consider any hits you will save in 27 etc by having the latest information in your 26 WC

it’s the big picture you are buying with a -4 or -8, not just one game week

                      good luck though

THis is what I came up with. My current team is posted above. Am really unsure of what to do. I have Coufal Antonio and Gundo Forster who are liabilities if I BB next week.

We should know the fixtures yes, but a late WC kinda defeats the purpose.

Tricky knowing what's best for this week.

    Current squad

    McCarthy (Pope)
    Cancelo, Stones, Coufal, (Mitchell, Justin)
    Fernandes, Salah, Son, Grealish, Gundogan
    Bamford, Antonio (DCL)

    2ft, 0.9 itb.

Thinking Justin to Dallas, leaves 0.8itb.

Then maybe Grealish to Raphina leaving 3.3 itb which is just shy of what I need for Kane the following week.

Or I could take a hit, bring in Kane and Dallas and go with Smith Rowe rather than Raphina, as bench fodder most weeks.

Leaving towards just doing Dallas but I've been cautious both double gameweeks so far and although I've done ok, could have been so much better.

Missed out on Antonio haul last time and was considering Lowton all week ahead of this one.

43.5% rank rise from 700K to 400K. After 23 weeks of getting all the 50:50 decisions wrong, it's a weird feeling waking up to this.

Slim pickings in the 3.9-4.4m defenders range. Thinking most probably Brighton defender maybe Burns or White, maybe Tete from Fulham or Alioski and if it gets bad then seeing if either Kilman or Struijk start to help clear up the Kilman vs Struijk vs Mitchell debacle

    Rant warning.

Two players I haven't owned that have frustrated me badly this season are Justin and Gundo. I didn't get Justin in because he was supposed to lose his spot early on and didn't see these hauls coming from Gundo.

Last two weeks my rank has dropped from 200k to 640k and I've been destroyed by Gundo captains in my ML. Last week my bench outscored my team 41 to 36 (!) and now I've left another 24 on the bench so far!

Still a long way to go so need to put these two weeks behind me and focus on the next few! Cheers rant over lol

It's a 20 point difference with Gundogan and effectively half time.

Everton will take the game to Man City too so they'll be more space.

Whilst Everton don't travel twice like Fulham, they finish late tonight and have 2 days recovery then match day again.

Need to shave 0.5 off this to do Antonio to DCL....

    Martinez
    Cancelo - Lowton - Rudiger - Creswell - Dallas
    Gundo - Mo - Son - Bruno - Anguissa
    Bam - Kane - Antonio

Loathed to rid Cresswell as he's class.

    Any thoughts?
