Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers face a number of selection dilemmas as they put the finishing touches to their squads ahead of tonight’s 18:30 BST deadline, one of which, of course, concerns who to captain.

While one, all-too-familiar name leaps out as the leading candidate for the armband this week, there are other FPL assets whose cases deserve examining.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 1 captain poll, then analyse the leading candidates and Rate My Team (RMT) ratings ahead of this evening’s curtain-raiser in Brentford.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

As you can see from the current results, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) is the runaway leader of the Gameweek 1 captain poll. The Egyptian midfielder has accumulated 61.95% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Only one other player has garnered more than 10% of votes at this stage, with Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) currently in second place, backed by 14.68% of users.

There is also a surprise inclusion, as Ivan Toney (£6.5m) occupies third place with 4.62% of votes, with Sadio Mané (£12.0m) and Kai Havertz (£8.5m) just behind the Brentford forward.

I assume people don't want to double with Ings, especially with the bad fixtures from GW4. But in isolation, do you think he's still a good option? Could Ings actually have a positive impact on his FPL potential?

    Fair enough. I've gone back to him from Antonio. I preferred Watkins before Ings, so I'm wondering why not now? Haha. Also Antonio with Europe is a mid- to long-term concern. Doubling with Ings, but can bench one or both for GW4 and 6 with my deep bench.

  I fancied starting with a treble of Ings, Watkins and Buendia. The only reason I didn't get Watkins is because I needed 0.5 elsewhere, so took Toney instead. He could do well these first 3 GWs.

  The point feels the same for Liv and Omo, at least Amartey will probably start this week and then, you never know, might keep his place. Justin was a couple of weeks punt last season (I'm still bitter that I didn't get him for that reason) and then kept his place until his injury.

    So went with dias---taa and out taa in the starting 11
    Then Barnes--benrahma
    
    So now it's Amartey toney and dallas on the bench.
    Gw1 so hopefully keeping toney on bench isn't going to back fire on me.
    
    Leeds are still going to concede so can see a 2pt for dallas to be fair.. Amartey/vestergaard conundrum looks after itself.

  Very good but with your roulette issues i dont think Mahrez is worth 9m, Gundog/Torres/Grealish just as likely to start and score for a lot less money

I see a lot of Sanchez and Foster as the cheapest keeper combo here, but is Sanchez and Steele (Brighton understudy) not a better option? Same price, 100% coverage (except when Brighton don't play)...?
