Newcastle v Man City team news: Dias and Mahrez benched, Grealish injured

In the final Premier League match of the day, Newcastle United host champions Manchester City at St James’ Park.

Kick-off is at 16:30 BST.

For the visitors, Pep Guardiola makes two changes from the side that beat Bournemouth 4-0 in Gameweek 2, as John Stones and Bernardo Silva replace Ruben Dias and Riyad Mahrez, both of whom drop to the bench.

They sit alongside new signing Sergio Gomez, but Jack Grealish misses out through injury.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are unchanged after last weekend’s goalless draw at Brighton and Hove Albion.

    Worth selling the 8.0 mids for the value attackers emerging?

    The likes of Rodrigo, Zaha, Toney, and Mitro are hard to ignore at their price. Fixtures are decent as well (except for Fulham's)

      Rodrigo has always been a top class striker and I was very surprised that Bamford had been above him in the pecking order for so long. Rodrigo had a rough first season but It's likely he will be first choice in the near future.

    City used to hold the ball up in the final third and keep possession, wear teams down. They've changed their attack. Now they make quick balls into the final third for players to run onto and shoot. So different from last season, I don't like it.

      Likewise, putting the fullbacks into midfield is probably not the best strategy for counter-attacking teams with pace: Newcastle, Palace next week, Spurs, etc.

      Howe must've been preparing for that all week. A bit surprised Pep didn't change anything

        Lesson I learned this week. I was cruising and had two free transfers and of course had to meddle. Took out almiron and Gabriel for James and Elliot. Lesson for me is going up against so called big teams doesn’t mean your players can’t haul. Eg Leeds and Newcastle.
