We’ve got a clearer picture of the situation in Blank Gameweek 28 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) after Tuesday’s FA Cup results.

Five top-flight sides were in action, with Manchester City, Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion advancing into the FA Cup quarter-finals.

What Tuesday's FA Cup results mean for Blank Gameweek 28 1

BLANK GAMEWEEK 28

Six scheduled Premier League fixtures will definitely go ahead in Blank Gameweek 28:

  • Arsenal v Crystal Palace
  • Aston Villa v Bournemouth
  • Brentford v Leicester
  • Chelsea v Everton
  • Nott’m Forest v Newcastle
  • Wolves v Leeds

However, Brighton v Man Utd, Liverpool v Fulham and Man City v West Ham are postponed, with each of those six teams blanking.

All that it will take for the one remaining fixture – Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur – to fall will be a victory for one of those two sides in their respective cup matches on Wednesday, which looks likely to happen. That’s because Southampton host Grimsby Town at St Mary’s Stadium, while Spurs visit Sheffield United.

The FA Cup quarter-final draw will then follow and this will have implications for Blank Gameweek 32, which you can read more about here.

As a result of tonight’s fixtures, one more additional Gameweek 32 has been confirmed as being on: Leicester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers.

GW28 Premier League fixtureStatusA blank will happen in the following situation:
Arsenal v Crystal PalaceOn
Aston Villa v BournemouthOn
Brentford v LeicesterOn
Brighton v Man UtdOff
Chelsea v EvertonOn
Liverpool v FulhamOff
Man City v West HamOff
Nott’m Forest v NewcastleOn
Southampton v SpursPossible blankIf Southampton beat Grimsby in the FA Cup fifth round and/or if Spurs beat Sheff Utd in the FA Cup fifth round
Wolves v LeedsOn

INITIAL REACTION

Championship side Blackburn Rovers knocking out 2021 FA Cup winners Leicester has big ramifications for FPL managers.

We already knew Brentford would ‘double’ in Gameweeks 27 and 29, but they now have a guaranteed fixture against the Foxes in Blank Gameweek 28 too.

That means they will play five times in the space of three Gameweeks, more than any other side.

However, that is no longer the case for Brighton, who will now blank in Gameweek 28, with appealing ‘doubles’ either side against lee + CRY and BRE + bou.

Liverpool v Fulham and Man City v West Ham are also postponed in Blank Gameweek 28, an intriguing development, given that many squads are loaded up with players from these teams.

What all of this means, however, is that chip planning just got very interesting, which we’ll be exploring in much more detail in the coming days.

    Real Madrid have scored more goals in England this year than Chelsea have. Lol.

    No else jumping on Iheanacho this week after last night's result? I know there's always a nailedness-risk, but Southampton, game in the blank, and the best DGW fixtures are luring me in...

      Not me.

      I think Toney and Watkins are the priority. I'd even prefer Mbuemo over 'Nacho.

      Maddison is the only Leicester player I'll be considering.

    Raya • Ward

    Haaland • Kane • Toney

        Strangely no real bench issues to be honest. Due to blanks and looking at playing BB in 29 it’s ok.

      I hate all of these options but:

    Arrizabalaga - Ward
    Alexander-Arnold - Trippier - Ream - Botman - Bueno
    Salah - Saka - Rashford - Martinelli - Mitoma
    Haaland - Nunez - Nketiah

    Like it or not, I will probably have to use my 2nd WC very soon and prepare better for the doubles. Liverpool BGW simply changed things. I know myself and I should take a lot of hits in order to get the team I really want. Activating Free Hit in GW28 makes sense in this scenario as well. Honestly, I don't think I can perform miracles with 1FT and 1.6 in the bank.

      If you WC now / 27, you can easily avoid FH28 and save it for 32/37. Still have BB to play? Defence looks a bit shaky for this week but the front 7 should be alright. Think I would lean toward WC now, but easier to compare if you make a draft first

      1. Arteta

        Yeah, I still have BB to play. Like you said, I have to make some drafts first and see if it's really worth it. Thanks for help!

      What team would you prefer that requires a lot of hits? You have 3 FT until GW28 and if you get out all 3 LIV assets and Ream, you can adjust all areas of your team with a single hit. I'd value my WC higher than that, unless there's a specific structure you have in mind that wouldn't be possible without bigger hits.

      1. Arteta
        • 10 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

        I don't have the perfect team in mind, but I want to invest in some BHA and BRE assets. If I use my wildcard, I would probably change my two strikers to Watkins and Toney/Mbuemo. I took a punt on Nunez and Nketiah's days may soon be over. That's two players that probably have to go sooner or later. Almost whole defence has to be rebuild and my GK combo could be stronger. I'd rather have Raya and Sanchez to be honest. Perhaps I should get Arsenal defender to cover the clean sheets at least and some LEI players could be decent differentials. I wouldn't mind having benching headache, but at the same time I don't think my current team is all that bad. We'll see...

          OK, then I'd draw the line at 2 hits until GW29. If you can get what you need that way, save the WC and FH. If you intend to play your BB in 29, then the WC is the best way. I personally will try and navigate with single hits to get 10 players in GW28 and 7-8 doublers in the DGWs, hoping that the WC, FH and BB will bring bigger bang for buck in the last 10 GWs. Good luck either way!

      No clear TC candidate in 29 so would aim to TC34 (Haaland/Rashford/Kane should have doubles). BB I think is best in 29/34, so for you I would aim for 29. WC now or 27 to set up BB. And FH the blank in 32 or the last DGW in 37

      29 is best for BB as most doubles, then TC 34 or 37 depending on fixtures and FH the other one.

    Since Leeds bottled it last night I have to do some tinckering.

    Team as of now:
    Kepa - Ward
    White - TAA - Trippier - Schär - Bueno
    Salah - Rashford - Martinelli - Saka - Andreas
    Haaland - Darwin - Ferguson

    Will do the following transfers before DGW27, including one hit. Might do two of them before the weekend.
    Darwin -> Toney/Watkins/Mbeumo
    TAA -> Mee
    Andreas -> Jensen

    Haven't decided on which attacker. Toney sure, but the insecurity of a transfer waiting to happen is offputting.

    The plan is to not use FH in BGW28 and I will have 10 players (regardless of which attacker I choose)
    Kepa - Ward
    White - Mee - Trippier - Schär - Bueno
    Martinelli - Saka - Jensen
    Toney

    This gives me 2 FT before DGW29 and Bruno and Shaw will get back in. Probably for Bueno and Martinelli.

    The team for DGW29 will then be like this:
    Kepa - Ward
    White - Mee - Trippier - Schär - Shaw
    Salah - Rashford - Bruno - Saka - Jensen
    Haaland - Toney - Ferguson

    12 players with a double + White and Saka playing Leeds and Haaland against Liverpool.
    DGW29 could be BB, but will decide that later on.

    Leaves me with FH, WC2 and possibly BB for the doubles and blanks later on.

    Am I on to something here?

    Gw26: TAA -> Mee

    Kepa
    White Shaw Mee
    Salah Saka (c) Odegaard Rashford
    Watkins Haaland Havertz
    - Trippier Bueno Andreas
    ------------------------------------------------------
    GW27: Andreas + Watkins -> March

    Kepa
    Mee Shaw Trippier
    Salah Saka March (c) Rashford
    Watkins Havertz Haaland
    - Odegaard Bueno White

    (*Only two double gw players but not sure which sgw players that I want to bench hence no hits.)
    -------------------------------------------------------
    GW28: Salah -> Maddison (10 players)

    Kepa
    White Trippier Bueno Mee
    Saka Odegaard Maddison
    Watkins Havertz
    - Rashford March Shaw Haaland

    (*Bueno is a doubt)
    -------------------------------------------------------
    GW29: White -> westham
    Odegaard -> Bruno (-4)
    Bueno -> dgw def (-8)

    (Bench boost)
    Kepa Ward
    Coufal Trippier Mee Shaw dgw
    Saka Maddison Rashford March Bruno
    Watkins Havertz Haaland

    * Haaland and Saka only sgw players
    ------------------------------------------------------
    Overall TWO hits, BB29, WC and FH carried fwd (if Toney is not banned will get him for Havertz for -4)

    Howz it guyz? Would you change anything here?

    Cons
    - Only two dgw players in 27
    - BB29 with ward and a few more players compromised

    Pros
    - WC, FH will intact
    - Sgw players in my team in gw27 can score atleast closer to the dgw players and could be already, Shaw, Trippier and Salah all have good fixtures.

        Is the BB29 team good enough? And GW27 team?

        I want to pass on the BB as well in 29. And just field the dgw players without taking any hits

        And then WC31/32 to have good BB team for the dgw later on when mufc, city and spurs have got doubles and they all have something to play for. And FH in a bgw

        What do you think?

          I plan to WC now and will have transfers between 29 and 34 (FH available in 32). I plan to have 3 utd in 29 (bruno Rash and shaw) and Haaland from City. Then I'll have time to bring in Dias and Kane if I want, not sure who else I'd go for from those teams? I could end up with a very similar team to your WC team in 33 or whenever you play it? Brighton will still be good options then as well and they'll be in place also.

      2. Eleven Hag
        • 8 Years

        And I may not lose much ground by not having too many dgw players in 27 as sgw players could easily match them.

        Shaw, Salah and Trippier are my single gw players, there is every chance they can get closer to any dgw players from Brighton and brentford ?

          That's fair, it's obviously very team dependant but I'm happy to get some Brighton Brentford players and also hold Shaw and Trippier. Salah I'm not too concerned about but my WC draft has 5m in the bank so having him also is an option but would likely lead to one extra transfer

      Definitely a valid strategy, yeah

      The reason I advocate for the early WC is that it's quite easy to navigate DGWs 34 and 37 with the WC26 template and no hits, especially if you go for FH32

      What I mean is: your later WC team is unlikely to be very different from those with the earlier WC, unless you go for some punts. If you're the type of manager to back yourself with some late-season punts, then the late WC would be perfect

      If you tend to be closer to the template, just check out what you'd have by DGW34 if you used an early WC and max out on BB29, this season's biggest DGW: https://www.livefpl.net/myteam/

      Keeping Felix for now and waiting for more news on Toney is the most sensible thing you can do.

      Could be 32 or 34 I think

    3. It will likely go "in the pot" with all of the 28 and 32 fixtures that need rearranging for 34 and 37. If Brighton have 3 fixtures to be rearranged one of them obviously can't be in 34 or 37. If Man C or Man U are still in Europe when the fixtures are rearranged, it will have to be the Newcastle game that is put outside of 34 and 37.

    whatever about FPL this is a potential disaster for Toney. his england career will be over, the sharpness and match fitness that he is going to inevitably lose over several months will be significant. Getting back to the player he is now could take much longer than the period he will get banned for. could be two seasons just erased from his career.what an idiot.

      Joey Barton got 18months so could be similar. He is daft but Premier league are hypocrites as they push these gambling companies in our faces every second of every game you watch

        He did like 1000s of bets though apparently so I'm expecting a 6 month ban for the 260 of Toney.

          Possibly. Reminds me that Joey Barton once put a bet on himself to get booked and lost and also bet on Newcastle beating league two Stevenage....he started the game and they lost lol

        I agree they are hypocrites but its his place of work, he knew what it said on the FA rule book re: gambling in the 5 leagues and the obvious conflict of interest in creates . the vast majority of other players are all able to follow it. its totally on him.

      Think I'm going Rashford plus double defence given that their GW29 fixtures look low-scoring & there's too much competition among mids. Nothing against Bruno though, still a good pick. If I was getting him I would like to do so ahead of liv/SOU, provided you can field a decent GW28 team with him on the bench

          I'm wondering if Dalot is too risky, especially whether ETH might deploy AWB v Saint Max again... Would prefer him but may end up with Martinez for safety. Don't have to decide til 29 at least

    Apologies for the long-winded post, but as it's quiet, what do you think of this plan for the upcoming weeks?

    Kepa / Ward
    White - Tark - Trippier - Martinez - Bueno
    Salah - Saka - Ode - Rashford - Andreas
    Haaland - Kane - Watkins

    GW26- Martinez to Mee

    GW27- Kane & Andreas to Toney and March (-4) ***3 DGW players***

    GW28- Salah to Maddison *** Full team of 11 playing 5-3-2 ***

    GW29- Ode & Bueno to Fernandes and Shaw (-4) *** 11 DGW players ***

    With 1 hit, I’ll likely end up with this 10 for GW28. Good enough to avoid the FH?

    White, Trips, Botman, Mee, Bueno
    Saka, Ode, Maddison
    Gnonto

    1. Conners

      I wouldn't normally support losing Kane for a hit, but not only does it give you an extra player in the blank, it also frees up money to get Fernandes in gw29 (that was my thinking above)
