Here, two-time Indian FPL champion Lateriser looks at Manchester City’s best FPL options for their great fixture run.

The FFS Pro Pundits 34

Manchester City are a team that a lot of FPL managers will be targeting in the next few Gameweeks – especially if, like me, you will Free Hit in Gameweek 32.

This is how their schedule currently looks:

They have a great run of fixtures until the end of the season but are also involved in the Champions League and the FA Cup, meaning that Pep Guardiola’s rotation is always going to loom.

In case you were even remotely worried about their underlying numbers, they are top of the league for minutes per expected goals (xG) and minutes per expected goals conceded (xGC) since the Gameweek 17 restart. Given those fixtures, their players will top the shopping lists of many managers until the end of the season.

Let’s have a quick look at their minutes since the restart:

Erling Haaland (£12.0m) basically plays when fit and, despite his recent groin problems, I think you simply just get him when fit. He has been pictured in training but we’ll get more clarity after Guardiola’s press conference on Friday.

TRANSFORMED GREALISH

The name that stands out is Jack Grealish (£6.9m), who has gotten into the line-up and made it his place to keep. This is what Guardiola had to say about him after the last game:

“All this season he has been playing really well. Now it’s the Jack we thought. Aston Villa fans know this Jack. Nothing changed, it’s just a question of believing ‘I am part of that, and I can be here’. Now he has more minutes.

“The way he behaved in the beginning when he was not playing was exceptional. We are so satisfied for his performance. Today was amazing, he was really good. I like the standing ovation from our fans. He really deserved it. Not just that, all season he has been playing well.

“Football is more than stats, it’s many things. The way he gives us the tempo to play and to make extra passes. I could not imagine with the big name he is and the price the club paid to have this humility to run like a teenager. That means a lot to me and the team. At the same time, he has to score more goals at home. Definitely.”

From a minutes perspective, he looks very secure at the moment having started the last 10 league games plus both legs against RB Leipzig. Now that makes you wonder whether he might be rested in the ‘easier’ league games but that is always the risk with a Man City asset. I’m not too worried about it at the moment because they’re very much in a title race.

Additionally, I like the last line where Pep mentions he has to score more goals at home because for me Grealish at Man City player has always been a better player in real life than in FPL. Now let’s have a look at the numbers of City players since restart:

That is all from me this week, I hope this article helped you. On a personal note, my last couple of FPL weeks haven’t been fun. Players with decent underlying numbers but no points.

This is how Gameweek 29 treated me, where you have no other option but to shrug your shoulders and move on. I had a green arrow from 230k to 195k but feel very underwhelmed with where I am ranked. It is what it is.

On an exciting note, we have fellow Pro Pundit Pras joining Zophar and I on this week’s episode of The FPL Wire, which you can view here.

Looking at Luke's comments in the article, I wonder if Ake might actually be more rotation-prone than Stones? Stones does have the weakest deputy in the lineup graphic but these things are never set in stone with Pep & he might just start Walker in a slight twist of shape when resting Stones

Interesting that Gundogan is so far ahead of KDB for big chances & shots in the box. Maybe being a bit overlooked, especially with Bernardo mostly playing deeper now?

Mentaculus what are your moves for the next few weeks?

I'm still wallowing around 1.5 million and thinking of targeting all teams going for European football or the league. Have 3 Brighton (Sanchez is one and he'll be DeGea soon) and will bring in Mac or March (Possible Ferguson because I'm Irish).

Then getting more city as currently only have Haaland.

Will give me 3 united, 2 Newcastle, 3 Brighton, 2-3 City, 3 Chelsea and then have Saka and Gabriel.

Grealish, Gundo two possible shouts and will have to replace Maddison either this week or next.

Hey Jonny. I had pencilled in Maddison - Salah for 31, but at the moment I'm quite unsure about the team I want to build for DGW34 so I want to wait at least one more week, maybe even til 33, before I decide on Salah/KDB/Gundogan/City defenders, so I can get a bit info on rotation etc. I sketched out a route to Salah & KDB but it would involve 2 hits before GW34 including 2nd GK & 5th defender downgrades to fodder & switching March- Ferguson (while keeping Saka), or else a simpler Saka - KDB hokey cokey for 34-5 that doesn't involve so much reshuffling. Not totally set on KDB though.

Most immediately, I want to ditch Havertz & Toney and I'm considering both - Haaland & Jesus this week for a -4. Sticking with Chilwell & James for now but may lose James soonish depending on how they look under Lampard.

BB was ok (124 , -4) & gained me 300k OR but I'm still around 1.4m so could do with some differentials

Yeah I'm similar to you and might hold my transfer this week and use two next week (have to use them before I FH in 32 or will lose one). Will be good to get a better sense of City players and if Ferguson is a starter by then and plus they have two defensive teams up next so not in a rush to add another right now.

I like your moves for this week, I have Haaland already and will probably captain him this week. What do you feel of Jesus though? He was notorious for wasting good chances pre-injury and went a spate of games without a goal. Just playing devils advocate with the -4 looming but a great differential right now.

Great score bud. I got 103 but captained Maddison. I could of captained 9 players in my team who scored more than him but I guess thats one of the reasons I've been poor this season is with the captaincy.

I'll keep James for now, he looked very good at the weekend and was very strong under Lampard so fingers crossed it continues and other fires to put out.

Need to ship Sanchez soon but might just wait til next week.

Maddison might have another week in the team (if fit) but will be gone after that.

With Jesus, the main draw is that I would still like double Arsenal attack but don't have room for another mid. Up front I have a vacant spot without too many candidates for it. I do have some doubts about gametime/rotation, but then Jesus is usually a key player for tougher fixtures so I think it'd probably be ok. Not really holding his pre-injury form against him too much & he fits the bill for a differential. The downside is the hit for Toney which may not pay off right away, and since I'm also on FH32 I might end up benching him in 33 & 34 anyway

lampard to chelsea as interim boss.im lost for words. the failing upwards of these sliverspoon managers continues at a pace. no real hours put in on the sidelines or lower leagues like other managers , just coasting on the fumes of their stellar careers (he was a great player but so was Alan Shearer and Frank Rijkard). Stevie G will probably end up at West Ham at this rate.

Lampard Gained experience in Championship with Derby prior going to Chelsea & getting them into top four / should have one the FA Cup against Arsenal which would have allowed more time but much due allowed the young players to come through from the impressive youth set up/knows the club so at first glancing outwards in strange actually could be inspired - Mount was brilliant under him whilst this season under Porter lose his way.

I'm thinking of loading up on DGW34 Players in the run up to BGW32 and just free hitting the blank GW.

Have Rashford / Haaland / Mitoma / March and Shaw* already so can get up to a pretty decent DGW team by 34...

Is that a sound plan or are people manoeuvring to 32 and FH34?

Remember one guy saying I needed to factor in a hit into my half way calculation of 5-0 to Watkins as the transfer would lead to a hit down the line.

18-0 Watkins the final score post 'hit'.

Struggling to come up with a plan!

I've still got FH and WC left, but no Haaland this week.
I could do Kane to Haaland for free, but to do Toney to Haaland, which i woud much prefer Id need a minus 8 and do Saka to Grealish and Shaw to someone 4.9 or below.

I’m staying simple this week in a similar position and doing Kane to Haaland if it looks like he plays.

Anyone selling Kane? Brighton, Newcastle, United then doesn't have a DGW. Yes, BOU sandwiched in there but Spurs look a bit of a mess right now.

This is my issue as well. Its more the form of Watkins that is driving me towards selling kane instead.

Shifted him to Watkins in GW25 to fund Salah and happy with that. With doubles, I think Salah is more explosive. Ideally I'd like Haaland, Kane and Salah, I think I can only have 2 of them. I'm planning on doing Toney to Haaland this week, and have Watkins and Isak.

If Haaland is confirmed fit to be in the squad this weekend then I'm not against selling Kane to Haaland. More explosive and better captaincy option

    Kepa
    Trippier Pinnock Moreno
    Salah Saka Rashford Mitoma
    Haaland Watkins(c) Toney

On an individual level he was performing fine up til the last couple of games, but I've just run out of patience with Leicester after being pummelled by Palace. Think I have to start adjusting my perspective to see even a fixture like Bournemouth as a tough and potentially evenly-contested relegation battle

Recent article was about changing plans. I think Watson's form is forcing me to change my plans.

I have followed my plan since the gw27 wildcard and has gone very well. Next step was going to be Haaland + Andreas in for Watkins + Maddison. But Watkins' form is too hard to ignore, meanwhile Grealish is looking tempting with the additional fixtures to boot. So I may have to change plan and go with Haaland + Grealish in for Kane and Maddison.

Grealish + Watkins is better than Andreas + Kane...right?

Not that simple comparing the two combos. As an example Grealish blanks in 32 but has 2 doubles. Depends on the rest of your team and chip strategy

Yeah I am almost certainly free hitting I gw32. Good point, though.

Another factor is that Andreas will be on my bench far more than grealish

Still FH GW 32 with all these having a game?

    Raya
    Pinnock, Schär, Trippier
    Maddison, Saka
    Toney, Watkins, Kane

4.9 in the bank to get Haaland in for free, probably for Toney

Only have 5 who doubles in GW 34

    1. Bluetiger1
      • 3 Years
      2 years, 11 months ago

      GTG

      No - GW32 - Currently showing 9 available
      FT - GW31/GW32 - would give you 11

An option with Haaland for Toney but would leave without a hit 10 players but option to take a (-4) hit

Then, if only FH chip left could use in GW34 or GW34 for more gains on DGW players.

    Early thoughts here?

    De Gea
    Trippier Botman Chilwell
Rashford Fernandes Mac Allister March Maddison
    Kane Havertz

Raya Isak Henry Estupinan - 1 FT, 5.1M ITB, planning FH in 32

    A) Havertz > Haaland
    B) Isak & Raya > Haaland & 4.6M keeper -4 pts
    C) Something else

I was planning on doing A but I can see Wilson starting next game as well so Havertz might be a better keep and I'm 0.2M short of Isak > Haaland.

Swore to myself I’d never get a City defender again this season after the pain of Ake rotation just after Christmas… but here I am looking at him and Stones for 31 onwards (32 free hit).

Previous article was all about being agile and adaptable… should we be as flexible as to consider City’s defensive roulette again?!
