Giovanni Lo Celso has a chance to be nailed this season. Attacking 8, 5m in FPL.

Very much considering moving my 4.5m mid to him if I can afford it. It just depends on if he's staying or not and his fitness of course, but he's in a system and role that suits him well now

Dele is priced at 5.0 maybe he could get the spark back now that he has lifted some of the pressure from fans by sharing his issues?
I think all he needs is the spark the talent is there surely?
It is only a between the ears issue. Easier to fix then a player with no talent.
Only 27 when most footballers are supposed to be peaking.

Dele might do eventually but it's 0% you would start the season with him. Lo Celso and Garnacho have shined in pre season. A mate of mine whose in with the vital spurs lot says Ange really really rates Lo Celso.

Joao Pedro but only because his initials are JP, which is very close to PJ, which reminds me of PJ Gallagher, who is a lovely fella and very funny.

If Pedro happened to be an elite whistler I'd probably permanently captain him and possibly do other things as well.

Of those only Wissa and Dcl are nailed but I do like the other two if they look like they’ve become first choice at some point but risky to begin with. Edouard has been scoring nicely in pre season too as I mentioned above.

I've actually been thinking about Havertz too this season and think he will have a solid year. Hasn't really ever had the chance to play in any sort of role that's similar to the one he played in at Leverkusen and Xhaka did so well there. But if there's a chance he plays as a 9 it ironically puts me off, and I do think there's a rotation possibility there as I thought someone said Rice played as the left 8 in the last game? That combined with Arteta's comments about having different options and different types of "physical" demands in different games.

But I still may take the plunge depending on what we see today. I'm feeling like purely doing my own thing this year anyway, I went against that a bit last season and didn't end up enjoying it much

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years

*poor wording makes it sound like I'm saying he played on Xhaka's role before which I don't mean, but I mean being central and allowed to attack behind the forward

His mediocre preseason suggests to me, he'll come on as a sub #10 or False 9 but will see a lot of the bench early doors.

We must be watching different Arsenal line ups and play

... because everything I've seen indicates that he's the 8 in a left hand midfield role, playing deeper with Rice or Partey and with license to arrive late into the box to finish moves from the right hand side etc.

His career average in league games is about 1 goal every 4 games, so he's not a bad pick but is he going to be prolific?

        He'll rlse to the occasion.

Yeah Rice was the left 8 v Monaco, but I think he played as the 6 v Man Utd. I'm still unsure about Havertz tbh. Will be deciding on Martinelli today depending on whether Trossard/Nketiah/Havertz starts up front

    3. Arteta
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 11 months ago

Today's line-up is so important. It will be basically the strongest team in Arteta's eyes, as well as a great indicator for what's coming in GW1, if everyone stays fit.

Agree - will assess Arsenal after today.

i'm torn start of season with fixtures to go with Trossard in mid-field like Havetz in a false number nine with Jesus injury
but would mean losing Salah current in my draft eleven - undecided

Understandable tbh for a lot of people, but I think he was given short shrift at Chelsea. Don't think I ever remember him playing in the position Chelsea watched him play in when they decided to buy him in 3 years. I still remember his debut where he effectively played at RB while James went ahead of him all game, was bizarre

Alvarez is in my team at the moment I only need him to start gw1 really. 30 minute cameo will do after that.
Given the way Burnley play now it could really suit City. City walloped them 6-1 in a cup game last season I seem to remember.

What do you think about World Cup-like stoppage time? Does this mean that due to the huge risk of losing CSs, we will play 3-5-2 and that we will choose 3 most nailed defenders from the 3 best defensive teams? City, Arsenal definitely fall into that category, and which team is third? Aston Villa? If we consider that the majority will have Gabriel/Stones, who do you think is the best pick for the third def?

Arsenal defender long term is good but the trend from last season is they kept more clean sheets away from home. Not that fussed on Gabriel/Saliba or City defenders because of roulette rage.

You can also make a case that fringe defensive players who get subbed out at 70-ish (like Ait Nouri from Wolves) will get more popular, since 90-min defenders will need to hold out cs for 10-20mins longer now

You'd say more football playing time= more goals.

      So even fewer clean sheets.

Loads added onto yesterday in EFL.

Like 6 mins and 8 mins typically.

Also loads more yellows for fair looking tackles where the player goes to ground but wins the ball. Leading to early red cards too.

I like the Richarlison pick. But the Nketiah one would only really work for maybe one/two gameweeks and what is your plan after that? You will have an Arsenal spot used up by a player who is not playing.

Postecoglu rates him, Tite rated him. I think he suits the style of football Spurs are moving towards. If Harry does move on this summer, I think a new signing is unlikely to get ahead of Richarlison in the pecking order.

A Brazil striker, playing up front for an attacking side, miscategorised as a 7.0m midfielder, is definitely an interesting option.

Will keenly watch today's game with this in mind. The plan initially was for Bernardo to be used in attacking midfield after Gundogan left and Rice chose Arsenal, but Mahrez leaving was unplanned so supposedly it's between those two positions for Bernardo, but he's a big threat in both. I remember him playing brilliantly at RW last year against Newcastle in the 3-3 with a beautiful assist for KDB. I've had Foden in from day one, but I'm wary of KDB's return and what plans Pep has in central midfield. Foden definitely part of those plans but how often will he play when KDB is fit?

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 5 Years

Wait I got that the wrong way around, it was KDB to Bernardo, but still it was a lovely goal from both points of view but maybe I should go back to bed

      2. Andy_Social
        • 13 Years

He can play #8 alongside KDB, but so can Alvarez. I suspect Bilva has been given assurances to play enough games at RW, so Foden's minutes are vulnerable in my book. He's in my draft, but i'll watch the commie S with doubts in my mind.

          • 5 Years
          2 years, 11 months ago

Yeah and Bernardo is very versatile too in that he can be there to do either the offensive or defensive work in midfield, and he can be an offensive RW option or he can spend most of the game tracking back there (like v Saka last season). Problem with the latter is that it means there's still a fair chance he plays more but also spends a lot of games not attacking, while Foden may get less time but will pretty much always be on the front foot whenever he's on the pitch. But maybe Bernardo having less of a defensive role is part of City trying to convince him to stay

    Onana Areola

Stones Estu Cash ( Baldock, Bell )
Mitoma Rash Salah Saka ( Anderson )
    Jackson Haaland Wissa

    0.0 ITB

Have had this above draft and I liked it, but I also have this one:

    Onana Areola
    Gabriel Estu 4,5m Baldock Kaboré
Salah, Saka, Rash, Mitoma or Eze, Anderson
    Watkins, Haaland, Nkethiah

When Nketiah is not playing. Rash to Bruno and Nketiah to Wissa, maybe even Raul Giminez(which let's me keep Rash).

Any tips on a good 4,5m defender? Thinking about one from Villa, but any other good punts?

Pre the community shield time of writing. I was wondering how settled are people with their drafts? I am happy with my bench. But in my starting elven I now have two positional calls.
One of the striker spots Alverez/Pedro/Nketiah and one in midfield Foden/Martinelli.
I suppose only two is not bad.

2-3 at least. I see no reason to settle until we've got all the preseason info - still want to see ARS/MCI/BHA today, and what happens with Kane. If anything I've been actively trying not to get too attached to any particular draft yet

There's always a choice between the final spot in midfield and attack which can also impact who's your 4th defender with the remaining budget.

I'm fairly settled bar the substitute goalkeeper and 2nd sub defender.

This week might be best to swerve until Wednesday/Thursday.

Not very much at all. Like Mentac, I'm staying open to anything. I made 1 draft and didn't touch until last week when I made 4 changes, and one was Nkunku so I will likely need to change more. But I could well change anything up to 13 of my 15 (Haaland and Salah the exceptions). No need to feel attached to anything as it rarely helps I find

Play it safe with A. (Rashford, Mitoma, 4.5 FW) or mix it up with B. (Garnacho, Martinelli, Jackson)?

    Rest of the side:

    Chilwell Gabriel Shaw (4.0, 4.0)
    Salah Saka Eze _____ _____

I have gone off the Mitoma pick myself, as there are plenty of other alternatives at that price - decided to chance double Brighton defence instead.

I have Martinelli and Jackson in my team. Garnacho seems a risk too far. You would be better off with a 4.5m player and bench him instead of getting Garnacho IMO.

      Write up:
First half unimpressive. Defence sloppy, Dalot pulling Onana's pants down. Casimero too urgent launching the ball forward and losing possession 50%.
Second half they played ETH's transition football with a bit more patience and intelligence. Bruno, who'd started a bit deep with Mount getting and fluffing chances first half got more involved. Garnacho was great, Rashie and Anthony okay, Bruno and Mount fine.
My takeaway is they're still learning to be 'the best transition team in the world' and will get better and batter. But there will be mistakes early doors.

Seems to be some chatter about Garnacho and Bruno playing well. Also about Onana being chipped, and how it was someone else's fault. So would be nice to get a summary. Happy to wait for the FFS write up, but would welcome a biased Man Utd one too!
