My experiment with goalkeeper rotation, Johnstone and Turner, lasted 2 GWS. I’ve never done it before because it just seems like you’re giving yourself an unnecessary problem and I think there’s some truth to that.

    1. Baps Hunter
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

The problem is that you miss their hauls with rotation.

    2. FOO FIGHTER
      • 6 Years

Just leave Johnstone in goal. I have both as well and went Turner for this GW. Rotation is going to bite.

    3. Hotdogs for Tea

It has worked for me in the past, but you need better keepers from better teams

      1. Andy_Social
        • 13 Years
        2 years, 5 months ago

Same. I did very well with Steele and Raya last season. This time I'm sticking with rotation, but I don't accept the "received wisdom" that you should 'never waste a transfer on a keeper'. I hear this from the semi-divine content creators on YouTube a lot - absolute tosh - they are players just like any other, and paying attention to form and fixtures means GK rotation can work as well as defender rotation.

    4. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years
      2 years, 5 months ago

I think people are too quick to judge GK rotation due to feeling the need to 'get it right' every week. If you play only home fixtures or avoid the top 4/6 attacking teams, your average PPM is going to be better in the long run, especially if one of the GKs is someone like Turner. The only exceptions to this are save machines like Raya last season

      1. PogChamp
        • 14 Years

Sounds like a sensible and simple strategy but I’m still leaning towards scraping rotation

I am not a Chelsea fan but their squad is looking in pretty good shape. Their biggest problem is having a consistent front man. We are yet to see how Jackson is going to fair. If Nkunku was fit, I would not rule out a title challenge.

          • 11 Years

Their squad is not in “good shape” - it’s a mix of unproven youngsters and proven failures, all hugely overpriced.

They’ve done the exact same thing as last year with a huge squad overhaul, and stuck a manager who’s struggled for the last 5 years.

No Europe is massive for them but predicting a title challenge is wild.

I'm a Chelsea fan and agree with Jim. My realistic expectation is for Chelsea to finish the season as best of the rest. Somewhere between 6th and 9th.

It's an exciting transition but we're talking about a new manager, completely new squad who are all in their early twenties, have limited experience, and never played together. And the squad isn't yet complete. It's a multi-year project and I think we'll see good progress and direct this season, but can't see Chelsea finishing above City, Newcastle, Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal. Then there's the likes of Spurs, Villa, Brighton or some other surprise team who might also do well

      Are those positions actually weak?

Mine don't seem weak: Richarlison, Mitoma, Wissa and Estupinan can stay for a while. Maybe even Estupinan *down* to Henry... Pickford to Sanchez, Mitoma to Eze/Barnes, or Baldock to Gusto would be sideways...

Not exactly scampering for Son, Bruno, Odegaard, Martinelli, Trent or Watkins atm

I might even sell Rashford long before I consider selling Salah, and that'll free up a lot of funds. Rash to Maddison is on my mind

I will sell for 2 weeks, which allows me a 4th defender, still keep a good 5th mid (maddo or diaby) and upgrade my 3rd forward to a genuine option. I love Salah but his next 2 games are tough and im still not sold on liverpool's consistency.

Doesn't mean "he'll be the GK to own" though - as before the season started, there are at least 3 appealing outfield assets for Arsenal. Now maybe the same with Chelsea.

Gusto feels like a trap. I don't need a third Chelsea spot if he fills it and if he ends up not playing then he's my 4m bench warmer. It's when there's no obvious downside that I'm most suspicious

I'm still not quite sure if that was just an effect of the different formation used against Liverpool. Caicedo strikes me as more of a double pivot kind of player who can force turnovers higher up the pitch rather sitting deep to shield the back 4. But perhaps in the absence of a 10 like Nkunku, Enzo will continue to push forward... I'll keep an eye on it anyway

He's only viable if James is confirmed out long-time. Otherwise, he is indeed a trap. 1. He blocks a 3rd Chelsea starter, and 2. He'll come on for short cameos when James is fit to start but still needs preserving.

It's simple in my mind, he's a better player in a better team than any of the other 4m defenders.

Even if you only get a sub appearance point when James is fit and starting, he's probably matching most of the other 4m defenders.

      That's not a trap.

Loads of people opened accounts on Betway, put the maximum bet on him and a guy in Spain both being booked on a dodgy double on the same day. March 12 or something.

Someone at the time, think it's posted above, said his price was odd as it was so short for a yc and he'd only had 4 in total at the time.

Loads of people piled into the bet so the word was out, but if punters can see the odd betting pattern you can bet your bottom dollar that the bookies are onto it back at base.

I wonder if they paid out?

That's the Tweet at the time above, just 3 yellow cards by then.

He's done a spot bet action on the pitch deliberately so it's worse than Ivan Toney betting on the outcomes of other matches.

West Ham were due to get £80m and he would have doubled his wages plus a signing on fee.

He says he's not a gambler, just a very silly boy?

In FPL it is important to think beyond clean sheets - and keepers who have a chance of clean sheets and save points - are almost a safety net against a concession of goal.

After that Turner debacle yesterday where he had the worst of both worlds - few shots faced/saves and the loss of a clean sheet.

It got me thinking who could be the top scoring keeper this gameweek? It certainly won't be Turner now anyway!

It has to be a team who are facing shite finishers and have a chance of a clean sheet - it could be Steele. As Wolves will probably have chances against an open side, it is in Mollineux. And Wolves are fairly toothless up front.

The Turner backlash is way over the top. He’s a 4.0 keeper in a defensive team who concede a lot of shots but have a strong home record: 6 CS last season at home I think, inc vs Liverpool and Arsenal.

Is he going to let in the odd goal like yday? Obviously. No one would have saved that.

Is he the best possible FPL option? We dont know. But he’s definitely a reasonable option.

Few centimetres lower or higher from Hamer and we’d have been celebrating a clean sheet and maybe save points too.

It’s a game of fine margins and a bit of luck. The ‘never again’ brigade may find themselves running out of options if they wont tolerate that.

I did have to laugh at the live comments on here during the Forest match, Turner was one save away from a 1 point bonus.

Posters were debating whether FPL had it wrong and he was in fact on three saves. Then wondering if some of those catches from crosses count as a save.
Then they were shouting at Sheffield to take a shot. All for that 1 point.

Perhaps at some point you could have Maddison, Richarlison & Son?

But yeah looks good. Not sure about Bruno til Utd sort out their midfield positioning but I like the rest (oh, and Pickford but leave him for now with WOL)

I’ve only 4 players today. So many good games and I’ve just 4 players. Worried about no Liverpool so come on you cherries!

My take on the Isak and Wilson situation is Wilson being used as an impact sub to keep Isak fresh.

Pretty much what Howe did last season from GW28 when they were both fit, until injuries made Howe play other left for four games.

Eze is the main man at Palace now with Zaha gone. Set pieces and penalties plus decent fixtures.

yeah that would have been a bit of a panic buy I suppose I always do that early in the season haha what about the 2 moves I suggested?

If Maddison goes wild this GW and Rash buckles again then Rash needs to take the back seat. If that does not happen then keep Rash and see how the Chelsea defence does on Sunday. With their great fixtures, doubling up on their defence could result in decent points returns.

I assume you have 2ft's so then you can just ship out Chukwu to free up the 3rd Chelsea spot 🙂

        This.

Eze is going to get you lots of points, just be patient.

Obviously going to wait until GW2 is completed, but any suggestion if and what changes are needed to my current team please: -

    Turner (Areola)
    Gusto Saliba Chilwell (Kabore Baldock)
    Saka Fernandes Jota Rashford Odegaard
    Jackson Haaland (Mubama)

    1.5m ITB, 1 FT

Thinking Turner >> Ederson for free?

    Thank you for your time….

Early 'bus' tram setting. Likely rolling this week. Even two decent bench players!

    Onana
    Chilwell Saliba Estupiñán
    Rashford Saka Martinelli Maddison Eze
    Haaland Jackson
    Turner // Pedro Udogie Kabore

As-is or start Pedro/Udogie over any of the XI?

Not gonna lie a Man City attacker will be tempting as SHU are there for. The roasting, but probably won't!

What do you think the most likely outcome is:

a ) Salah hauls Haaland blanks. Every content creator says it's fine because Salah was so low owned.

b ) Salah blanks Haaland hauls. Every content creator says this is why they were right.

c ) Salah hauls Haaland hauls. Every content creator says it's fine because Salah was so low owned.

d ) Salah blanks Haaland blanks. Every content creator says this is why they were right.

      Haaland 6; Salah 13; don't particularly care

On top of that there will also be

      E) The content creator will retweet their same tweet 5 times

      E) both are benched and come on for 1pt. Content creators in tears

      e) "content creators" dont care, as they are provided more "content" to "create";

the nature of the "content" doesnt matter, as long as there is "content"

      Turns out they’ve done:
e ) Neither haul but Salah beats Haaland. But apparently every Salah owner has Pedro and he was benched so therefore they were right.
