    WC dilemmas.

    Onana or Martinez?

    Akanji or Gvardiol?

    Keep Shaw?

    Foden or Alvarez (Foden = Watkins/Isak) (Alvarez = Maddison/Mbuemo

Mbuemo + Wissa or just one? Which?

Not active yet, but definitely 5, maybe 6 players I would much rather have. And players like James, Wilson, Eze damaging my team value and being generally ineffective.

Surely a hit or even two at thus early stage is a much more long term cost effective way of addressing the issues. I can understand the James and Wilson situations but Eze is very likely to come good. I can understand why you want to do it though.

I really don’t want to take any hits. I can hold off and have plenty in the bank after choosing the squad I like so maybe a small drop in TV doesn’t matter too much.

GW3 and 4 for Chelsea both at home. If ever there is a time to triple up on CHE, it is for these two fixtures.

I honestly believe they are going to struggle this season though, too many new faces and lacking experience.

Yeah, just pointing out that vs Luton and Forest both at home GW3 and 4, tripling up could be massive.

We probably have to stop looking at Forest as an easy fix, they’re a good team who found their feet towards the end of last season, they’ve been fairly solid so far, certainly not going to be an easy fix for a team like Chelsea who are struggling.

They also have a striker who’s on a hot streak & scoring against all sorts of teams, the double defence feels a bit risky.

Only 1FT unfortunately - which move/s would you prioritise?

    A. Gabriel > Man City defender
    B. Gabriel > Saliba
    C. Pedro > Jackson
    D. Pedro > Isak
    E. One of Rashford/Jota/Diaz > Foden

Keep hoping Gabriel will play once transfer rumours pass but maybe hanging on for nothing - reluctant to go for B and would rather hope Arsenal concede during their slightly tougher run of fixtures

I don't like double-ups anyway, and especially when Chelsea have been hit and miss so far.
Estu is the form defender as well, so that's who I'd play.

Super team, that! I'd definitely play Estupinan with his attacking threat here, and just have Gusto as a very good first sub, since he's not proven to be explosive (yet) and Chilwell is the more advanced of the two WBs

You’ve really left it too late this week if you are going to use it, Gabriel has just dropped whole a lot of popular players you probably want have all risen.

I’m in the same boat as you, had Salah & wanted to spread the funds so IMO it was best to use when I made that decision. You’ll have to know when the time is right for you based on Salah I’d say, easier to reallocate those funds in one week than do it over a period of time & putting out various fires.

Think of it as a probability, as that's all the predictors can tell you

98% is a *really* high probability of a rise, especially since that rise came two hours later, so more purchases could have tipped it over

  20. Count of Monte Hristo

It’s funny how disliked Watkins is as a pick. He is only is most teams because of the Jesus injury and lack of options around the 8.0 mark.

He has no goals yet but an assist in each game and 10 points with good fixtures ahead and nailed. With or without penalties he is a still a great pick. Just think it comes down to people’s perception of him more than his output.

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 7 Years

Yup. Would have been an easy hold if I had him

Targeting Diaby from GW8 though, as my Foden replacement

I think you sort of answered the problem in your first point, he’s only in squads because of Jesus, he was never fancied for the start otherwise.

      1. Unliklinho
        • 12 Years
        2 years, 3 months ago

Actually, I went with him over Jesus even before the injury announcement.
I don't rate Jesus as a big source of fantasy points at all - he's not the one scoring the goals in that team.

Yeah that’s fair, I don’t disagree, the point is more that Jesus was in the ‘template’ online team and Watkins wasn’t, he almost because the obvious swap

          1. Unliklinho
            • 12 Years
            2 years, 3 months ago

            Sure.
I think that that just says that this year's 'template' wasn't great. I felt so and went with some differentials - Watkins, Jota, Saliba over Gabriel, Odegaard over Saka, and I certainly wasn't doubling up on Utd, who lost most of their preseason games and certainly weren't free-scoring.

      2. Count of Monte Hristo
        • 12 Years
        2 years, 3 months ago

He shouldn’t only be in squads because of Jesus injury though is what I mean. I had him before that and think he is a solid FPL pick.

    3. Unliklinho
      • 12 Years
      2 years, 3 months ago

I've still got him in my team, and still think he'll be a good longer-term pick.
So many people are so short-term now it seems - instant points or you're out.
We've had two gameweeks so far and people are already projecting trends from that...

GW3 is going to be completely different again inevitably, that's the game.

    4. Arteta
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 3 months ago

I don't think that people dislike Watkins, but they just prefer a little bit cheaper and out of position Diaby at the moment. They are easily the best AVL picks, and I can see myself owning both at some point in the season. Emery's philosophy is to try to outscore the opponent.

    Here's my approach to Foden:

I don't believe he'll play as many games as most of the best mids in the game, so I don't see him as a long-term asset. But he doesn't have to be one. Barring injuries and suspensions, I'll have him for GWs 3 to 7 and then switch to a Villa mid (likely Diaby) for their great run

That's 5 GWs with Foden. He might only start 3 of them, but I won't rage-sell unless something like last season's disciplinary action happens again

The hardest part will be selling him when I know I should, just like switching Mitoma to Maddison in GW4... Ah well 😀

To me it looks like a flat 6 points in defence v possible double digits in attack so the triple attack is just about winning now.

Chilwell, Estupinian & Saliba feels enough in defence with maybe Henry/Udogie/Botman coming in from time to time.

I see the temptation as a short-term pick - I always do & I've been burned many times. Here are my reservations about him:
Firstly, the age old question, is he nailed? Yes, the squad is thinner, but does Bernardo necessarily replace Kovavic? Weren't Foden & Bernardo basically playing the same role v Burnley? For continuity's sake, while Pep is away, would it not make more sense to continue with the double pivot rather than trying to make Foden/Alvarez/Bernardo work?

Secondly, maybe even more importantly, are City about to thrash anyone? They look in a weakened and slightly problematic transition at the moment. Foden did a decent job, creativity-wise, against Newcastle but his final pass was often lacking that KDB finesse (as with the through ball that was just too far behind Haaland for him to collect it smoothly). I know shu is a nice fixture but Fulham will have Palhinha back and did well v City last season. At the moment I think Brighton, Spurs, Liverpool, Newcastle, Villa just look more free-scoring.

For me, the fact that Foden created so many chances against one of the best defences in the league bodes well for this run, with no KDB, the creative responsibility will surely fall into his shoulders because Bernardo is not that type of player.

I also think they could have battered Burnley if they wanted to, don’t think they wanted to humiliate Kompany but that’s just a hunch.

I guess my specific point was more that Foden created a lot of chances but no big chances; his movement was outstanding but his final pass just marginally off. Anyway, kind of just playing devil's advocate here - I'm considering him, but not sure. Seeing a lot of positivity so just trying to test it against some doubts

I guess what you have to ask yourself is, if you had unlimited transfers would you bring him in now based on what you’ve seen? If the answer is no then you don’t really want him so leave it.

Thoughts on my team please (RMWT):

    Onana - (Turner)
    Chillwell - Saliba - Estu - (Gusto - Henry)
    Mitoma - Mbuemo - Odegaard - Foden - (Maddison)
    Jackson - Haaland (C) - Alvarez (VC)

Players in Brackets on the bench, 2.7m in the bank

Like it, mine is similar, I have Areola, Saka, Diaz & Wissa to your Turner, Mitoma, Maddison & Jackson.

What you planning with the spare funds?

Thanks! I had Saka but given that Ode got more points last season and appears to be on pens (until he misses one) and I’m slightly concerned at not owning any Liv players.
Save for now, hoping the above is solid enough over the next few and that cash gives me money to upgrade pretty much anywhere across the board. Gusto/Alvarez are likely spots I’d look to upgrade after the next few.

Wouldn’t put too much emphasis on pens, Saka only scored 2 & missed 1 last season, he scored a lot of points outside of pens.

Yeah you have the money to bring Liverpool in, I’m just doing it now so I can save a transfer down the road.

What do you think of Gusto? He’s one spot I’m in two minds over.

I think you can still get Salah in here, especially since you have an injured player as your sub

Here's my idea of a long-term approach because you won't be able to make wholesale changes during future fixture swings:

      Flekken (Turner)
      Chilwell Saliba Estupinan (Udogie Botman)
      Salah Arsenal Foden Mbeumo Mitoma
      Haaland Alvarez (Semenyo)

Let Chelsea prove themselves first, then they can come in for the City lads if, for example, Alvarez is benched regularly for Bilva (Wissa can come in instead anyway)

Chilwell could become Alex Moreno in GW9

I’m really not sure you need Salah this year, last week was the perfect indicator, easy fix for him, hard for Haaland, Haaland still had a humongous EO as C, Jota & Diaz showed they could contribute.

He will score a lot of points but those saying he’s not worth it without the C are also right.

It’s going to take a brave man to go against Haaland this year.

I could have told you that in advance tbh (about EO). I prefer to look at it as an opportunity, that the masses will not be swayed regardless of how/who City are playing

A lot did but it was something I had to take on for clarity. I was in two minds all Summer and this week cleared it up for me completely, there’s no second guessing the decision now.

As bad as the week was, that went well (just) but it could have so easily have gone very badly.

With 2.7 in the bank you could do Mitoma to Jota/Diaz in GW4/5

Some good shouts here, thanks all. Can’t see me swapping the captains band from Haaland at all this season, so don’t see Salah as a great option. Waiting to see who’s more consistent as a starter out of Jota/Diaz before making that jump.
Gusto I know is a transfer waiting to happen, but Poch will likely bring James back slowly so will likely get until end of Sept out of him, by which time maybe another decent 4mill defender option makes themselves known

    Morning all,

Moved Gabriel out yesterday for Gvardiol and still have one FT left with 0.0 ITB.

Save the FT or get rid of Pedro? Or maybe get Foden in for Rashford?

    Onana, Turner
    Gabriel, Estu, Chilwell, Udogie, Baldock
    Rashford, Salah, Mitoma, Mbuemo, Saka
    Haaland, Joao Pedro, Mubama

To bench Shaw or not to bench Shaw...united don't fill me with confidence, and I will likely ship him out soon, but is this game at home to forest an obvious time to play him? My other defensive options are making this a tricky decision:

    Johnstone
    Estupinan, chilwell, Saliba
    Martinelli, mbeumo, mitoma, Saka, Rashford
    Haaland, alverez

    Turner. Shaw, baldock*, archer

Antonio going under the radar somewhat, presumably due to fixtures. A few seasons back he was an FPL darling
