I am all over the place on what to do with Pedro & Gabriel, been working thru so many options. I think I have settled on a simple Gabriel to Gusto and see what happens and have 2FT next week (I have 2FT & 0itb this week) for potentially a mini WC.

    What would you do?

Just read the 'death of the captain' article.

Obviously an interesting debate this year (and last) with the perma-captain issue.

Someone touted on these pages a while ago about a small, very poignant change, would be to limit captain picks to 10 times (or another number) per player over the season.

I personally think this would be a genius addition and make the game far more interesting

    1. Alan The Llama

      Yeah, very poignant.

    2. Scapegoat Salah
      • 9 Years

I think the price is the issue.
He needed to be 15.0 then at least ownership would be much less, which is would affect overall EO and captaincy

In the current season with the premium landscape as it is, 15 would be trivially different from 14.

I think this is just a Haaland introduced thing. He may or may not be perma captain this year. Teams have had time to work him out and come up with strategies, so I expect not the same output this season, plus there will be weeks other options are viable (ie last game week).

          Ye and Ronaldo.

It would be interesting to see if you tracked Haaland versus your pick of everyone else (irrespective of whether they are in your team) over the season to see if you were up or down

    4. Zenith UK

I disagree he was literally out scored by Kane from GW2 onwards last season, irrespective of whether he played or not. The beauty of the captain chip was always picking the right captain at the right time.

I remember doing some math at the start of last season where he'd only returned in something like 60% of his games at the time (or basically wasn't as reliable as it would seem). The fear factor with Haaland is his ability to be explosive and have a huge ceiling.

A fun thing to do at the end of each season is to look at your total captain score, the top individual player score (if you captained him every week) and the maximum theoretical captain score.

See the differences between each, and see where realistically you couldve made a better decision throughout the year. I take notes on this and refer back the following season each time I am thinking about doing something out of the box.

Last 3 years in a row prior to last season (C Haaland 32 GW, most id ever captained one player in one season) my total captain score has been less than if I just captained the highest scoring player each week - I am slowly learning my lesson and last year was my most ever points from my C. I C'd Salah last week, but only because Haaland was playing NEW. I will try and C Haaland 36x this season, unless he has pre-planned rest.

It’s difficult to choose one though, Wissa will get more shots and chances to score but Mbeumo has pens…

        1. Zenith UK
          • 9 Years

For me comes down to who you'd want in your midfield, if you can get a banging five man midfield without Mbeumo you're happy with then Wissa is great coverage. Otherwise, go Mbeumo and have someone else up top like Watkins, Isak, Alvarez or Jackson.

          1. Shark Team
            • 8 Years
            2 years, 6 months ago

Maybe Mbeumo has the advantage because I can’t find 4 other mids that I surely want but I can easily find 2 fwds other than Haaland and better than Wissa(Watkins, Alvarez)

the thing i worry about is relying on brentford to keep getting pens through the season - average no. of penalties awarded to a PL team last season was 5...and brentford have already got 2, so you'd assume that kind of rate to revert to the mean trend fairly sharpish lol

    2. Worsle90
      • 9 Years
      2 years, 6 months ago

Mbeumo is a valid long-term option. Wissa slighlty less so, IMO

    3. Chandler Bing
      • 9 Years
      2 years, 6 months ago

At their prices, they are excellent picks. However, if Toney stays at the club and comes straight back in, the appeal for both drops as Mbeumo loses pens while Wissa loses minutes.

Mbeumo is the better pick out of the two either way because he gets more points as a midfielder, gets more minutes and is currently on pens.

      1. Chandler Bing
        • 9 Years
        2 years, 6 months ago

Adding: C is very unlikely to happen unless they play teams that are outright better than them. Reason is their system. They have different formations they adapt to as per opposition and their playstyle of bombing opponents with their fast forwards and wingbacks usually overwhelms the opposition (reason why Brentford win so many free kicks and pens in the opposition half).

Depends if you're really keen to hang on to Salah during this fixture period. If not, then Salah > Foden then upgrade Pedro to Alvarez perhaps?

It's certainly a headache. Salah blocks off alot of my moves.

I’d move on Salah to a Foden or Maddison and upgrade your cheap striker to One of the great mid price options available. I’d play colwill over Gabriel this week as despite two injury’s I can still see Arteta bringing in Zinchenko ahead of Gabriel.

honestly gabriel to colwill might be a good choice - I think Jackson is possibly a trap, and a triple up on chelsea is VERY risky even with this fixture run (they don't look very good and have basically no team chem), but having 2 chelsea defenders is risky too.

Might I suggest Martinelli and Pedro > Mbeumo and Alvarez?

looks nailed af, has been brilliant in their opening 2 fixtures and fits postecoglous v attacking style, taking up great positions, got an assist, his main competition is ben davies I think?

yes that's true but I haven't heard a peep from him lol - i guess he's not as nailed as romero, but higher upside, i can see why you might pick romero as he'll start every game

I'd go Romero. Stats better, though only played 20 minutes in GW1.

Not keen on a City triple-up, to be honest. Blame Pep.
