    Very belated MOTD thoughts:

    - Burnley somehow look like they're getting worse defensively. Son's first goal and Maddison's goal in particular were horrendous, the amount of space they were given is unbelievable for any PL team

    - I know Jackson missed a sitter but it still seems like Chelsea aren't creating many clear-cut chances? Seems like counter-attacking teams are well equipped to play them. They like having lots of possession in the opposition half and then with Chilwell in particular up the field most of the time, they look very susceptible to a break from any team with pacey forwards

    - Haaland's strikes for his hat-trick were delicious, especially his last. Feels a bit silly to say it about someone with 3 goals from 3 before last week but he like he wasn't as sharp as he has been initially but he looks like he's fully up to scratch again

    - Didn't realise how lucky Ferguson's goals were. Not to take anything away from him (I still rate him very highly), but one spill from Pope, another one where for some reason Dan Burn ran away while he shot with Pope backtracking, and the last one a hugw deflection

    - Didn't realise how bad the chances Nunez missed (mainly from Salah passes) were

    - Beto looks quite a handful for Everton, as does Archer for Sheffield Utd. Hamer looks solid too

    - Brentford v Bournemouth looked like a bit of a wild game, Brentford could have easily scored 5 or 6

I think the thing with Burnley is they've been quite ambitious in their pressing so far. It was actually quite effective in the opening 15-20 mins against Spurs, but increasingly fell apart towards the end of the game. Spurs & Villa were just a bit too good at playing through the press at a high tempo, but I still think Burnley will do ok against lower half teams / relegation rivals and should end up safe.

That's fair. I probably need to see more of them, but still some of the issues I've seen around their midfield and defence is ridiculously worrying

"Dan Burn ran away while he shot with Pope backtracking".

Watch every goal (except the one where Pope goes for a jog) that Newcastle have conceded so far this season. You can also add in the big chances missed, particularly the 2 Haaland chances.

Bruno G is at fault for all of them. His positioning, in combination with Tonali, is amateur. You can often draw a big 40 yard diameter circle around the opposition CAM and never have a Newcastle player in sight. Either Howe plays his back line 10/15 yards further up, or Bruno G learns positional discipline with Tonali in the team. Otherwise the UCL teams and Brentford next will spank them silly.

Brentford got wiped last year 5-1 at SJP and it was probably the low point of their entire season.
Year before I was there for the 3-3 (Howe's first game but he had Covid so Jason took over). It was a fun game of breakaways (St. Max. was unplayable) and I expect something more like that this week. Howe has to do something different because the positioning and intensity is just not there yet.

I haven't seen enough of full Newcastle matches this season but I can understand that, especially having seen some of Guinaraes' poor performances at the end of last season. I did read a few Newcastle / Milan fans saying that they did think that Tonali wasn't exactly a perfect fit for Howe's system and it'd have issues (not that he doesn't fit, but that it'd require a bit of adaptation around the side). Seems like it's happening

Sterling will possibly go big at Bournemouth on Sunday, but there's a strong logic to getting Son as the central striker at home to Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon.

You could easily be 2 goals up by then, before the disappointment of Sterling's haul ....

This may be well derided as the stereotypical points-chasing move of the week, but for me its sound. Spurs so much more convincing in attack and Son moving up front is huge (I'd already pre-decided to get him as soon as that happened)

          sell Bruno.

I know he's expected to haul every week but it's more like every 5th game or so.

yeah, I'm likely to do it too tbf.

the starting point for selection is pretty simple, who's playing closest to the goal and is decent too.

Pedro to Awoniyi or Alvarez will probably be my next transfer.

For me, I think I'll be sticking with Sterling when I look at the next 3 fixtures. I didn't include GW8 fixture as the move would be to Son if I don't get him this GW for Bruno/Rashford.

      Sterling: bou, AVL and ful
      Son: SHU, ars, and LIV

Son could score in all 3 of those games to be fair.

Arsenal at home are quite open and Liverpool will let in goals too.

It's possible but Arsenal and Liverpool have better defences than Villa and Fulham so higher chance of Chelsea scoring than Spurs.

Spurs attack just fills me with a so much more confidence than Chelsea at the moment such that it more than mitigates for the difference in fixtures. But yeah the next 4 for Chelsea are decent enough to stick around if you have other transfer priorities or something

For me, choices on offer, often don't relate to a transfer. If already having 2 FT's it is another story. Even then, I would look to tidy up the defenders first.

What defenders? OP posted this question in isolation so I have no idea what their defence looks like. I mean I kind of agree that Sterling isn't a hard sell if you have fires elsewhere (as alluded to above). But my freshly WCed team has a strong back 5 to pick from and no injuries (as yet) so its easy to make Son priority no1

If you thought I was being nonobjective, excuse me. This was not my point. I looked at you post in isolation. If no defenders needed, so be it. More my point is any drabs in defense you might not want, it would be a good time to transfer.

                    Ah no worries 🙂
Was just confused by the relevance of defenders. But yeah my defence is (hopefully) setup so as not to need any transfers for a while so I can focus them on mids & 2nd striker

"I saw a few of them trying today. Sonny is up there, I think Madders and Richy are all sort of in there," said Postecoglou before chuckling. "Bissouma I have seen take about 500 and miss about 495 but he is still out there practising, so I don't know but it is somewhere in that order."

a hattrick against the bottom team in the league does not an fpl asset make

a hattirck against the bottom team makes you an fpl asset when playing the other bottom team though doesnt it
And honestly, im tempted to get son for the tougher fixtures as he usually overperforms in those....

yes but how many are shipping sterling for him when he's up against one of the most generous defences in the league to? and id argue it was son from a few seasons back who did well in those tougher fixtures.

are we talking about that unknown quantity, Son?

        much cheaper and Kane gone.

Well then its fortunate that the asset in question has multiple 200+ pt seasons & is now the focal point of arguably the hottest attack in the league at the moment

i just think its interesting that we are very quick to change the narrative on here based on one 90 minute game of football. sterling has been consistently good over 4 games and massively unfortunate not to haul against forest, he played well , his fellow attackers didnt yet right after the game its ok who to get rid of sterling for even though he has way better fixtures than son over the next three. son is playing oop and that obviously a huge attraction but he had done nothing up to that point in what you said was a really exciting attack.

I know, I can see why some might perceive it as points chasing, and I haven't totally changed my mind about Sterling solely on the basis of the Forest game. But for me the positional change is huge given the width-holding roles that Ange needs from his wingers & if anything I regret not gambling on Son earlier as I was pretty confident that he'd do a better job than Rich (who, let's not forget, was quite a bandwagon solely for occupying this role).

but this is the point he was hugging the touchline.

they've got a new right winger.

I don't think the attack minded manager is blind to the impact of Son. I'm sure he'll start there for the foreseeable, all being well.

any Man u fans here? (or others ofcourse)? Thoughts on tactics being affected please?
As a double owner (Rash + Bruno) - how do you think Anthony's issue affects the system, particularly these 2?

I was looking forward to this run, still am - but the last thing i want is for Rashy/Bruno to underperform due to tactical overhaul which could require them time to get used to.

Thats why im tempted to do Rashy --> Son if i feel this tactical change hurts Rashy even MORE.

Marks from 10 IMO for Rashford position:
        CF 3/10
        RW 4/10
        LW 8/10
Garnacho could create issues. But clearly not an MU supporter.

Gf is at 5k with no chips used and 2FTs.
She was thinking about Alvarez and I said risky as he will be playing at high altitude v Bolivia.
She says this is good, as he will have to train at altitude. Therefore he will be even fitter for the WHU game.

This is the kind of 300 IQ play she makes on a weekly basis. So, Alvarez owners, enjoy your haul.

In GW1 it was 2 Brentord 2/3 Spurs, 2 Chelsea 2 Pool for low level Euro games, 1 Palace, + Talisman guaranteed to play (Saka Haaland etc)
