    Porro or Trippier this week?

Using WC 20 to get Haaland back, so keen to spend the cash over next 2 weeks by upgrading Beyer.

Likely Tsimikas > TAA next week

    Leno
    Colwill Lascelles Saliba Beyer*
    Gordon Salah Saka Palmer Son
    Watkins

    Turner Tsimikas Alvarez Mubama

Trippier having a tricky GW20-22 would probably make me lean towards Porro for now - but his next two are great.

However I definitely think Everton can score & Trippier probably(?) outscore this week.

Actually given you are WC20 perhaps I'd lean with Trippier. It's close though.

    Morning folks.

    Leno
    Trippier Porro Gusto*
    Salah Son Gross Gordon Palmer
    Watkins Solanke
    Areola* // Gabriel Taylor Haaland*

Set up well for this week. 1 FT 0 ITB. Will be wanting to roll FT in one of GW18/19/20 to prepare for GW21.

Might play Gabriel over Gusto (midweek mins and predicted lineups dependant).

Recently bought Gross & not terribly unhappy with him, but the further Brighton fullback injuries (Veltman) may mean Gross has to play fullback again. His xMins are great & still gets decent xGI but just a thought.

Worth moving to Bailey? Just his mins/injury history/fixture congestion I don't like.

Gusto is pretty risky but wait on League Cup and performances of whoever starts at RB

      Leave Gross one more week

Will wait on Gross for now. Absolutely no rush, just gathering some opinions.

Aye the Bailey dilemma... I'm thinking about it too. Do you know if he had any actual injuries/knocks recently, or is he just not fit enough for 90mins or 2 games in a week? I love the next 3 fixtures for him and the spacing of them for Villa is, relatively, not that bad. I think I could live with 2 starts + 30-45mins in the other.

        He was injured yeah https://x.com/fplvillan/status/1736039160274690193?s=46&t=-lvEupr38DtPuTPziJGTmw

I have up to 6.6m to spend on a mid in that option so doesn’t have to be Bailey, maybe Gordon would be a safer pick. But yes would love richarlison ideally but could only get him by selling udogie as I have triple spurs currently and don’t see richy being with the extra hit

Poor game from Endo and injuries to Gravenberch and Mac in midfield may dictate who plays CF. Elliott, Jones, TAA and Gakpo are options in midfield.

We'll probably know better after the cup game, but I reckon Klopp may be more tempted to play Darwin against Arsenal. He's in terrible form for sure, but Arsenal won't defend as passively as Man Utd. More space in behind, which should theoretically suit the Uruguayan.

And against a defensive axis as strong as Arsenal's Saliba - Gabriel - Rice, a wrecking-ball striker would definitely be of help. Gakpo is good, but he's neither going to outmuscle them, nor is he as adept as Firmino in smartly dragging them out of position

In Arsenal's title winning season of 1997/98, away to Wimbledon they game was abandoned mid-game through floodlight failure. Abandoned as in the game needs replaying at a later date for the full duration starting from kick-off. It favoured Arsenal as we were struggling in that game but won the re-arranged fixture and went on to win the league and cup double. There is only one solution to the Bournemouth v Luton situation - the match gets replayed starting from 0 mins and the game from the weekend is deleted from records and should also be the same with fpl. It's no different to a game getting called off mid-way through heavy snow or waterlogging mid-game, the game is replayed - they don't give the points to who is winning or whatever the result is at that point and the abandoned game doesn't count on records.

That's all fair and reasonable. The counter-argument, used for things like miscredited goals and rescinded red cards, is that FPL usually strictly enforce their one-hour-after-games deadline, and there is no clear and obvious reason why this situation should be treated any differently.

The only argument against the one-hour cut-off is the one that goes "managers could have owned players for 90+60 minutes and that's unfair". This makes little logical sense. If you owned Solanke you got 60ish minutes +90 (IF you keep him that long). If you did *not* own him you owned someone else instead. Nearly all the alternative players also got 60+ minutes. So the argument comes down to "if someone who has Solanke keeps him in their team aaaaalll the way to the rescheduled fixture they get an advantage because rivals will have to use a transfer to get the extra fixture". Which is hardly an advantage at all.

Really, as has been pointed out many times, FPL should have a contingency plan for this type of situation. It's a horrible thing to have to deal with, but it's something that happens from time to time. Most grown-up FPL players don't really care about the points implications set against the backdrop of a terrifying medical emergency, but we would like to know what to expect and not feel as if the rules are being made up in real time.

BTW I know this has probably been done to death, but I have not participated yet. So this is me participating for the first and last time 😀

Me too. Hadn't posted for a couple of years but just wanted to bring a bit of substance and possible precedence to the discussion but clearly joined the discussion too late 🙂

Final point on the decision, i think that the Premier League are waiting in case there is any deterioration in the health of Tom Lockyer and then them making calls of replays being insensitive and their placeholder comment indicates this standpoint to a degree, so there may not actually be a decision this week.

I was wondering about the fixture ticker recently:
It is the difficulty of the opposition in general and not specific to who is up against them. E.G; the match difficulty rating for Newcastle away is the same for Nottingham as it is Man City.
When scanning the fixture list for consecutive blues, I think it might not be so accurate for top clubs.
That is the 'fixture proof' ability of some clubs is greater.
In terms of how the matches go, I'm sure some would be easier for Man City than Nottingham, but this doesn't show on the grid.
Still useful for what it is, though.
Not complaining, just pointing out something I was thinking about.

    1. Nuka Girl
      • 9 Years

Another example is Wolves away to Brentford same colour as Man City away to Brentford.
Just if scanning the Fixture Ticker for colour, these would be the same.

Hello! There is a 'Relative' option on the ticker here which takes team strength, and not just the opposition's generic difficulty rating, into account:

        That’s only for paid members.

The open ones screwed & needs fixing?

I know the functionality is limited for the homepage ticker in order to make the Members one more of a 'benefit'

Like the sound of that. It's about the only 'tool' I use.

I wouldn’t bank on it being any different. You can manually adjust it to your own settings but they never update it themselves and it becomes inaccurate very quickly

Really tempted by Bailey just afraid of the minutes, thoughts on him?
Douglas Luiz also with good stats from AV, nailed on, just with no output recently. Considering Rich or Bowen as well but the AV fixtures looking prime right now.

Is it me or is football reverting back to the central players being more of a focal point for goalscoring?

At least this season. Players like Martinelli, Saka, Salah, Son(when he's played as LW), Rashford(been out of form but still) and City wingers. Aren't the goalscoring machines they've been the past few seasons. I know Salah has scored a bunch, but that's thanks to pens as well. My point here is, that wingers are reverting back to actually being more like wingers lately, if you watch the top teams this season, players you normally see cut inside or play almost like strikers are hugging the touchline. The strikers, attacking mids or late arriving mids are getting the goals it seems. Maybe I'm wrong, but sure feels like it at least.

Could be in part due to full-backs in many teams now becoming inverted, so providing less natural width and making the LW / RW have to occupy the flank a bit more.

You know football has com full circle when Pep starts playing 442. Gone are his attacking fullbacks, inverted wingers and false nines.

Klopp and Arteta are copying him, which imo doesn't suit Salah and Martinelli. Martinelli would be scoring goals for fun in Gordon's role.

Haha exactly.. never thought I'd see 442 again.

    Who to bench?
    A. Tsimikas
    B. Zinchenko
    C. Porro
    D. Lascelles

Am I crazy to consider keeping & playing Darwin this week?? :/
    Thanks

B maybe? Tbh can't see any of them keeping a CS, Luton seem to score every home match noe, Everton are on fire. And Pool vs Arsenal can easily be a goalfest.

B or D. If you have Dub as gk then defo D. Lascelles won't get any attacking points anyway

    A'noon all. GTG? 0FT, 0.6 ITB

    Dubravka (Areola)
    Trips - Tsimiksas - Porro - Branthwaite
    Saka - Salah - Son - Palmer - Gordon
    Watkins (c)

    Subs - Beyer, Osula, Haaland

Thinking of doing Tsimi to Gabriel next week, then upgrading Osula after that. Thoughts?

Is it worth a -4 to get a new goalie when I have Sanchez and Turner?

Turner is awful and may be benched this week.

    Turner (Sanchez)
Tsmikas - Lascalles - Livramento (Gabriel, Maguire)
    Salah - Son - Saka - Gordon - Palmer
    Watkins - Solanke (Darwin)

Hi all. I've been way out of the loop and have basically been a casual this season. Just trying to find out, do you know when do I need to use my first WC by? Is it before or after GW19? Thanks

I remember reading in a forum that City could have a double GW20. Anybody know if that is still likely/when it will be decided?
