The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League (UCL) returns on Tuesday with Matchday 6 – and so does the competition’s official Fantasy game.

Here, Ed, another one of our resident European football doyens and a co-host of the official UCL Fantasy podcast, drops by to give us his team reveal, players to target and hypothetical Limitless draft.

You can get his weekly thoughts in more detail via a weekly UCL Fantasy newsletter.

Last time – as I warned might happen – the sheer amount of injuries in my squad forced a last-minute Wildcard. That said, Matchday 5 went pretty well. I scored 111 points and halved my rank, finally gaining upward momentum.

Best defender to bring in for Lewis/Aina?

A - Gomez (to add a Liverpool defender)
    B - Hall

I rarely if ever read the FPL articles also, so. It's not just these.

But that's mainly because I don't want my transfer plans to be skewed by "FPL experts". Because everytime I've done that, the transfers have gone to sh*t

I find I've got the opposite problem. I'll have a transfer in my head and I'll come on here or hear something even if its a minority opinion and because I've got an in built contrarian bias its like no everyones doing it so I don't want to do that. I'm slowly learning to accept sometimes the popular move is the popular move because its the right move.

This season, the popular move has been sh*t more than often. At least from my experience.

I've done much better this season(and last season) when I played my own game and picked players from my own experience and research.

Last season I followed (mostly) the popular picks, was on 2-3m rank by December. Started playing my own game, ended up 300k. Not a wow rank, but much better than what it would have been if I continued following the "experts".

Last season I was briefly in the top 5k in early December, and then everything was a disaster after that. My game didn't change, but I think that was part of the problem. This year it's been a disaster from the start, and I sit at 1.1M OR. 18 years of playing and I'm only getting worse.

I have a strange question that I hope you can answer.

I have possability to change my job. I will get payed a little bit more and I can learn new things and grow.

Hovewer on the interview I have been asked about how I work together with "strong personalities" and if I have been in some conflicts before.

I have later spoken with another person who has warn me about a person on that workplace. He described the person as presumptuous and condescending. I think its the correct english words. Im going to work with that person in a team and a few others.

Im very unsure what to think. Any experiances and thoughts?

Depending on your tolerance level, you can opt in or out. Dealing with such personalities is never easy and 50% of your work time is likely to get ruined by them, which indirectly also have impact on your personal life.

If your tolerance and patience can handle it, go for it. It will be fruitful.

My boss is of similar traits. Its now 7 years since I have been dealing with him. No one likes him but he now likes me. None of his work moves forward without me, he shares his weakness with me.

I'd say avoid it. It would be good to know more of the context, but the people you work with have a huge bearing on how much you enjoy your job, and that in turn has a huge bearing on how you feel about life in general. I've worked with a couple of very unpleasant people in my life, and it's something I wouldn't knowingly repeat. I'm lucky now, I WFH all the time and actually my colleagues are all grown ups, polite and good people.

The question sounds like a standard personality themed interview question, might not relate directly to this particular person. Does the 3rd party in this have beef with the person in question or is this opinion of the difficult person (allegedly) a common one?

I think a check like this in an interview is quite a red flag

Perhaps you should meet the other person first?

Sounds like they are favoured anyhow.

Also, often the first impressions turn our to be the opposite in working relationships.

Thx everyone for the reply. I have actually met this person om my second interview. He was one of the people that interviewed me. He was not friendly and was very dominant. Probably thats just how he is. He was not present at the first interview.

At one point I said that I wonder why they are talking/asking about how do I work with "strong personalities" and my experiance with conflicts. I said I was wondering how they have it in the department. They went silent for 2-3 seconds then they asked another question.

The department head at the interivew was very friendly and a nice person. It was also somthing the way he spoke. Like he said that he was working in the company for 10 months and he loved working there. 🙂 It just sounded strange the way he said it.

I thought after the interview that the department head got the job becouse of how kind he was. To balance and handle a big ego/egoes in the department.

    Greaves to TAA
    or
    Strand to Isak

For next GW I prefer Isak's upside but my defence is Gabriel - Greaves - Lewis - Ait Nouri - VDB so this is an issue.

Long term I will get both so it is more a question of who to get first.

It appears as though Slot shares my thoughts (and concerns) on this revamped Champions League. There's no great incentive to win the league stage, just need to get top 8 and in turn when you know you can't get top 8 there's no incentive to finish higher than the ones who drop out completely. He's talking about one more win then resting players for what are effectively dead rubbers.

The knockout stage is a bracket system and your position in that bracket is determined by your finishing position in the league, so in theory finishing top should get you an easier run all the way to the final.

Probably Jackson as Isak is too injury prone and not feeling Watkins this season

Enzo and Jackson easily. Their defence is dire

I'd still avoid their defence but it depends what your squad needs.

      Palmer
      Jackson
      Enzo

      Definitely not the goalkeeper

Currently no sign of Gabriel, Zinchenko, Timber or Calafiori at AFC open training.
