Absolutely. For the pool dgw with everton

And then switch the chip to another manager if needed

Will absolutely be TC Salah for the DGW. Ceiling is too high imo - Salah needs two returns to match two wins for pool

People were always going to react negatively to whatever the mystery chip was revealed as. My initial reaction was that it was a bit crap myself, but I think with the points they have allocated it could be a big points swing if you nail it!

But if you don't nail it your OR will probably slide because they moved the goal posts half way through a season by introducing something nobody asked for.

They have given us all several weeks to plan for it and we will all have the opportunity to use a wildcard before then if we wish.

It's not as bad as throwing in a wildcard out of the blue after covid

I think it's much worse than the post-covid wildcard. The real mystery here is that (1) somebody thought this was a good idea, and (2) others agreed and approved it.

It sounds messy and like something they thought of last week but I like the complexity and how it will probably benefit those who plan for it best.

Better than just chucking in a quadruple captain chip or something like that

It feels overly complicated with lots of "bite you" elements e.g. the 3 week lockout of other chips, the only have 2 other players from same team, the extra points for beating teams 5 places above.

The rules of the mystery chip is the most fun part of it for me.
For example , even when City is in form i don't usually need to have 3 of their players due to rotation.
Also, if i was allowed play this chip now i would most probably go for Liverpool or Chelsea(currently have Salah and Palmer and planning to get at least Jackson) or you could bet on Utd beating City and coming into form at the same time!

If they'd given us extra budget to be spent on players and manager, I'd have less of a problem with the chip. As it is, it means that some who have done lots of planning to get the squad they want, are now going to have to remove someone to get a manager in.

I'm at 365k, so lost about 100k in OR, mainly due to hits. I wanted the fourmium for this coming GW and was going to be priced out. Will see whether it works over the coming GWs!

    They’ve really gone hard here…

Lots of points available if you ace it.
    Impacts other chip usage.
    Carries over multiple GWs
Impacts team selection as you need money.

I’d always seen this as a gimmick chip to re-engage people over Xmas. In reality, this is a complex impact on the game.

Exactly my thoughts! Not sure why so many on here are so sour about this chip and especially talking about how complicated it is.

It's so easy, you play it and just hope for the best (as with every other chip or your weekly captain picks). Ultimately it all boils down to luck and very little skill, this game isn't Elden Rings.

Nice to have more variance for a luck based game!

If Everton beat a Bournemouth or Brentford, you'd get 20 points from Dyche just from the result never mind the goals and clean sheet bonus. Even a draw nets you 8 points so it's more than a Pool win.

The plan might well be go Dyche in the rescheduled DGW with Liverpool for those without TC like me.

Go with a manager who's team is battling relegation at the end of the season, especially if they're up against teams on the beach.

While I appreciate FPL’s attempt at fresh ideas, the new Assistant Manager chip feels unnecessarily overcomplicated. I hope next season they focus on addressing core issues in the game rather than introducing another complex feature.

    For example:
    1. Lack of Points for DMs and Other Roles:
Defensive midfielders and players who excel at tackles, interceptions, and recoveries are practically useless in FPL. This forces everyone into the same “template” squads. Adding defensive points—similar to how goalkeepers earn save points—would make more players viable and reduce repetitive team builds.

    2. Manager Fatigue and Engagement:
A lot of players lose interest because they miss deadlines or feel too far behind after a few bad weeks. FPL should prioritize features to keep casual managers engaged, like auto-sub recommendations or a “set-and-forget” mode that lets you plan multiple Gameweeks at once.

Let’s fix what’s broken first before adding layers that might alienate more players.

    1. Sharkytect
      • 11 Years
      11 months, 29 days ago

I like the set and forget mode. Set up your team for up to 3 weeks, say. Simple feature that doesn't really change the game but helps those of us who miss deadlines.

The 5free transfers rule has helped a bit with player engagement. It's deemed a pretty "casual" move to miss a deadline but I had 2FTs saved at one point this season and wanted to leave it til the Saturday morning for full info then life got in the way. Having the FT roll over to the next week was great, and again doesn't feel like an enormous shake up of the game.

first, changing the rules mid-season in any competition at any level is amateur hour and ruins the integrity of said competition. secondly, you would assume the rationale behind announcing a "mystery chip" midseason would be to re-engage casuals who are losing interest at that point, but the way you do that is with a chip that, in your own words, "really testing reading comprehension skills among the managers"??!??!? defeats the purpose. I'm fpl 7 days a week all season and my first reaction is, "I dont have time to think about this crap".

as someone mentioned earlier, the charm of the game is it's simplicity. this is overcomplicating it....and doing it midseason on top of that....total amateur hour failure imho

NJ - Couldn't agree more with you.
Far too complicated and introduced halfway through season, really. The fact you have to buy the manager means those with a highs T.V. are automatically advantaged. Luckily for me I do chase T.V. early on and so already 2M+ ahead of most in my M.L's. So many variables for one chip = potential for disaster too.

I'm with you on this, I'm so perplexed as to why so many think its complicated and would go so far to say its convoluted!

It's so easy - you make a call, play it and just hope for the best (as with every other chip or your weekly captain picks). Ultimately it all boils down to luck and very little skill, this game isn't any of the Souls franchise.

Nice to have more variance for a luck based game!

I think they have tried to make something that's not an obvious choice. I applaud that logic, however it still feels quite obscure to me what they've landed on.

Could anyone give me any pointers on what to do. 2 FT & 1.5 ITB
    Sanchez (Fab)
Mazaroui - Gvardiol - Timber (Robinson) (Greaves)
Gordon - Palmer - Salah - Saka (Franca)
Cunha - Solanke - Joao Pedro

    A. Isac for 1 of my front 3?
    B. Robinson - Hall
    C. Upgrade Gordon

I'd be tempted to do Franca to Enzo to give you a stronger squad for the festive period. Could you also afford Solanke to Isak?

Cheers mate. Franca is an issue so that's a good shout. I can afford Solanke - Isac, is Solanke not a decent differential with no other Spurs attack?

Isak is good, but nowhere near essential. Enzo is also appealing, but who would you start him over? I'd probably save the transfer.

Yeah my rivals have Isac and he is doing damage. Would you ship Solanke? No other suggestions? I could roll too just seem to be slipping down my work league week on week

No way I'd be selling Solanke before he plays Southampton.

Thats my concern with no Spurs cover on top. Would you possible just roll this gw then? Classic case of loosing ground and wanting to do something ha ha

    Verbruggen
    Gabriel Timber Ait-Nouri
    Salah(c) Palmer Saka Bruno Rogers
    Isak Pedro

    Flekken Konsa Lewis Chiwome
    1ft 0.4m

    A) Roll
    B) Bruno to Enzo (gives me funds to get 3rd striker)
    C) Bruno to Gordon (to try and take advantage of Newcastle's next 2)

I'm really surprised that people on here are so resistant to this idea.

This sort of stuff gives us an edge on the casuals and it's fresh. I'm all for it. Let's see how it goes. And I really like the comeback mechanic to reward upsets as well. It gives us some option otherwise everyone just goes Arne Slot or Pep for a 3 green fixture run.

There will ofc be a template formed but I feel good about this being an option since I wasted my TC already on GW9 Haaland. This gives me a chance to turn it around. I'm likely to do something a bit rogue with this chip and tbh, the points on offer here are significant.

If you pick someone like Sean Dyche for the rare run of Everton wins against mid-table sides, you could get like:
16 points for the upset, 2 for the clean sheet, 2 for goals scored. 20 pointer for Sean Dyche in one week. And you have 3 consecutive weeks! That's a potentially larger swing than a BB or TC.

For me the problem is not the chip itself, it's that they are changing the rules / introducing an essential part of the game too late into the season. As you said, "potentially larger swing than a BB or TC".

They are giving us 8 week's notice and they told us at the start of the season there would be a mystery chip coming.

        Plenty of time to prepare.

        All in the same boat.

What kind of argument is "8 weeks is enough"?
And no, we aren't all in the same boat, some people have wasted their chips, others have been saving them.

My argument is that whilst I appreciate the chip has been revealed midway through the season, we have plenty of time to plan ahead to accrue the 0.5-1.5mil (and extra team slot) that we need to bring this assistant manager in.

I accept your point on whether players have played a chip or not - we are not all in the same position there. Noted. However, I'm interested in your interpretation- who does it benefit more; those who have wasted chips or those who have saved?

I've still got my first wildcard and all chips. I guess I could use my wildcard in gw19 with this assistant manager in mind for gw24...at a stretch.

Fair enough, but I don't buy the "plenty of time". FPL should encourage long-term planning, not undermine it. Any such big change should be known before the start of the season.
Regarding the chips, personally, I used my WC last week because I saw no major benefit in keeping it further, I definitely would have saved it had I known this development.

      100% agree.

I fully expect to see a lot of these angry FPL managers getting thoroughly engaged and excited about the chip in the lead up to gw24 and posting their successes when they pick lopetegui for a surprise run of three wins against teams several positions above.

Right now I see a lot of standard "we hate change" kneejerk responses

I find this planet infinitely bewildering/perplexing and now FPL Towers have lost the plot as well. Just so odd. It's always come across as a carefully considered, closed shop (at least my perception going on such little info of "behind the curtain"). They don't just chuck things in without carefully considering the mechanics of the game.

So many intriguing, different ideas mooted over the years and they land... on this
