UCL Fantasy Matchday 8: FPL Reactions' team reveal

This is currently my team, where I’d be completely fine starting Franco Israel (€4.0m) in goal for Sporting CP’s clash with Bologna. In defence, there’s Alejandro Grimaldo (€5.8m), Kim Min-jae (€5.2m) and Theo Hernandez (€5.5m).

But, moving into attack, this is where the problems start to seep in. Jude Bellingham (€9.0m) is a great option for Real Madrid’s fixture with Brest and the same goes for Michael Olise (€6.7m).

However, Mohamed Salah (€10.1m) won’t feature for Liverpool. Also, I don’t see Nicolas Kuhn (€4.8m) or Enzo Millot (€6.3m) doing much this week.

Up front, Portuguese sources are suggesting that Viktor Gyokeres (€7.9m) has a fitness issue and won’t play. Joining him in the forward line is Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe (€10.9m) and Barcelona penalty-taker Robert Lewandowski (€10.9m) – the latter doesn’t convince me for the clash against Atalanta.

I don’t own Harry Kane (€10.7m) or Florian Wirtz (€7.9m), which could be problematic as I think both could be deemed essential for Matchday 8.

Would be great for our FPL teams if Arsenal beat Newcastle to reach the EFL final. Teams filled with Newcastle and Palace players. Chelsea and Arsenal blanking would not be such an issue. FH could be saved.

Around 15% chance of that happening according to bookies.
I'm on the 85%, Chelsea and Arsenal blanking would be worse for me.

I have Gabriel and Palmer vs Isak and Hall.

No difference to me for total number of players I'd have out regardless of result. Prefer a Newcastle blank though because Hall would be an easy replace for me.

      Yep

I'd be 4 players up and Palmer down.

      So I could reconsider FH29.

Looking to offload Hall and should go back to Arsenal players too.

No, I'd be fine with a Newcastle win!

Spurs beating Liverpool would be better from a GW29 for me.

My team isn't filled with Newcastle and Palace players. I only have Isak.

I'm hoping for a Newcastle v Liverpool final.

Was hoping to delay getting Mbuemo in until next week but..this week

    a) Gordon > Mbeumo
    b) L. Diaz > Mbuemo (use AM chip)
    c) Save FT (and keep fingers crossed)

Not really...Palmer, Salah, Diaz, Rogers, Gordon

Maybe I just need to sit tight this week and hope he doesn't haul

Yeah probably best. I've Eze that I can move to him . But I am been lured to get another doubler with my free transfer.

You can get another doubler with the FT. Nothing wrong in getting Mbeumo after this week. Gordon is still a good pick.

For all the gnashing of teeth over the Liverpool fixtures, this betting market data has Liverpool at second and joint 3rd for win probability after Chelsea at home to West Ham across gw24.

The AM projected points is the interesting one.
      Brighton - 33% win; 28% draw > 9,3 projected points(vs nfo)
      Wolves - 28% win; 27% draw > 8,3 projected points(vs AVL)
      Chelsea - 71% win; 16% draw > 8,0 projected points(vs WHU)

    Fab Sarr Kerkez 4.0

Too many options available - which do you prefer?

    A. Wood, Sarr, Sanchez > Gakpo, Dango, Pickford -4 (no Mbeumo)

    B. Wood, Sarr, Gordon > Gakpo, Dango, Mbeumo -4 (no Pickford)

Any tactical opinions on who Slot will play play CF against Huijsen/Zabarnyi?

    1. Darwin chaos
    2. F9 Diaz

"Bournemouth haven't lost since Dean Huijsen, 19, and Illya Zabarnyi, 22, first played together 10 games ago.

No Premier League team has conceded fewer than Bournemouth in that time."

    1. mookie
      • 12 Years
      1 year, 2 months ago

Huijsen and Zabarnyi both played 90 in the reverse fixture.
Salah, Diaz, Gakpo the most likely front 3 for both games imo.
If Darwin starts one, imo it'll be for Gakpo in the first game or for Diaz in the second one.

      1. mookie
        • 12 Years
        1 year, 2 months ago

Also, I would assume managers appreciate players that play OOP, despite them not doing really well.
Partey at RB was shite, how would've Rice looked there?
Havertz is a CAM not a forward, can't expect him to become R9. Odegaard at striker would be comical for example.
Same with Diaz, he actually was first choice LW and killing it before he moved to F9.
People in here measure everything in FPL points.

      2. Tonyawesome69
        • 7 Years

It was Diaz LW and Darwin CF 3-0 win in the reverse fixture.

Diaz given a full rest tonight may swing it.

I think Nunez poor performance earlier in the season and Jota injury forced Slot to move Diaz to play F9 role.

Darwin will presumably start in their FA cup game between the two PL fixtures with the usual Gakpo, Diaz, Salah lineup for the two league games.

The league cup SF falls nicely in the middle of the two PL games so I expect the same lineup as above against Spurs.

No danger of any big teams dropping out?

Man City need to win otherwise they are knocked out completely. While you'd expect Man City to win, there is certainly danger they won't make it through.

Big Teams qualifying only for the play offs thanks to poor group performances likely to face each other in the play offs too

Also fair on teams like villa who get a fair shot at UCL after coming 4th in a very tough premier league. Newastle got done last season cuz of their silly seeding

        2. x.jim.x
          • 11 Years

Obviously "anything can happen" but there's no real danger of City losing, if we're being honest with ourselves.

Speaks volumes that the only bit of excitement comes down to whether the team who's dominated the Prem for years (while winning a treble not long ago) can beat a second-place Belgian team or not. That and the novelty of 18 games at once, for the acca heads, of course.

      2. Nightcrawler
        • 6 Years
        1 year, 2 months ago

Part of the reason they're honking is they have to face each other more often. And now we have a situation where even if city/psg get through they will likely have to face Dortmund/real/Bayern in the playoff ensuring their elimination

We hardly ever saw teams from the first two pots get knocked out cuz of very easy group fixtures

        1. x.jim.x
          • 11 Years
          1 year, 2 months ago

City have dropped points to Pot 2 and 3 teams, so it's not just because they have to face Pot 1s this year.

Last season, 3/8 teams from Pot 1 failed to qualify for the knockouts.

          1. Nightcrawler
            • 6 Years
            1 year, 2 months ago

they have just 1 point from their 2 games against pot 1 and that's a major part of the reason the reason they are there

Teams that didn't go through from pot 1 in previous seasons were mostly Europa winners or league winners from average league. The big teams almost always go through

I bet their will be fewer big teams in last 16 this season compared to previous seasons.

Most importantly it's fair on teams that haven't played in Europe for a long time like villa. Newcastle beat psg last season and still couldn't get through

            1. x.jim.x
              • 11 Years
              1 year, 2 months ago

Yes, I'm saying that the Pot 1 results are irrelevant - if they'd beaten the teams they're supposed to, they wouldn't be leaving it to the last minute to qualify. It doesn't matter if you lose to the other 2 Pot 1 teams as long as you take points off all the others.

Newcastle couldn't get through because that was the only game they won, beating PSG means nowt.

My moves are either; Swap DCL to a punt on Beto to get Gakpo in for Pedro. 4 DGW players - VvD, Salah(TC), Beto, Gakpo
    Or...
Play AM on Slot, swap DCL to Ndiaye if fit. 4 DGW players - VvD, Salah(c), Ndiaye, Slot

    Could go either way!

I didn't realize that a penalty taker can't touch the ball first if it rebounds off the woodwork - it has to be touched by a different player first. So Mbeumo was extra lucky. If the ball had come straight back to him off the post I'm sure he would have instinctively kicked it, but that would have been a free kick to Palace.

Yeah, he tried to play the ball before Guehi got there, so definitely would have been a turnover had Guehi left it. He wasn't to know though - unfortunate, but shouldn't have encroached in the first place.

Can you use the AssMan chip and another chips in one of the weeks? I know I should know this but I'm curious as I'm interested in using it later in the season however, I have ALL my chips left so have to actually start planning.

Just saw Mings catch the ball to stop play on Motd2 and not get punished for it. I guess we don't play to the whistle, we play to Mings' whimses!

Considering a hit for Sels to Pickford, don't see nfo cleaning and fixtures worsen...Pickford chance of double figures....
