We’ve got a new addition to our Members Area today as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) goes live: defensive contribution points.

In case you missed it, there’s a new route to points in FPL 2025/26:

PositionDefensive contributionsPoints on offer
Defenders10 clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles (CBIT)+2 points
Midfielders and forwards12 clearances, blocks, interceptions, recoveries and tackles (CBIRT)+2 points

WHERE TO FIND DEFENSIVE CONTRIBUTION POINTS IN OUR MEMBERS AREA

In the Player Stats section of our website, click on whichever position you’d like:

In the ‘Fantasy Stats’ tab of each of these is a new column marked as ‘DC’.

You guessed it: these are the points that would have been scored from defensive contributions in 2024/25.

These points aren’t included in the total points (Tot, above) column – those remain as they were from 2024/25.

We will, however, be soon putting out an article in which all of last season’s FPL points are recalculated to factor in DCs, the extra assists and any bonus point changes.

In the meantime, this DC column can help steer you in the direction of the players who could benefit the most from tackles, recoveries, blocks, clearances and interceptions in 2025/26.

As with the other stats in our Members Area, they can be filtered by home/away matches, Gameweek range and more.

You can even use the ‘Versus’ feature to see which fixtures these players racked up the most DC points against.

BREAKDOWN OF DEFENSIVE CONTRIBUTIONS ALSO ADDED

And that’s not all.

In the ‘Defending’ tab of the Defenders, Midfielders, Forwards, All Players and Outfield Players stats tables, you’ll see a slight revision of how the data is presented. This is to make it more FPL relevant.

It’s highlighted in red below:

  • Tot – Total
  • Clr – Clearances
  • Blks – Blocks
  • Int – Interceptions
  • Rec – Recoveries
  • Won – Tackles won

Our thanks go to the real brains behind this new feature, Plan FPL (Reece) and TopMarx.

Enjoy!

No general PL fan option as FPL now want you to support a PL club. Heck! I’m a Bayern fan but probably picking Sunderland.

Both players have 0 goals and assists for their new teams.

If you’re basing it off last season, Cunha had 21 goal contributions while Wirtz had 22.

Cheers for the amazing insight...last season :

Cunha - 15G 7A in 29 Starts for relegation threatened Wolves in Premier League
              Witz - 10G 12A in 31 Starts for Leverkusen, Bundesliga Runners-Up

Cunha more goals than assists = more fpl points, proven in PL playing for a crap team, now with Fernandes and Boomo feeding him

                    According to you

Cunha = 22 goal contributions (he only has 6 assists really but whatever)
                    Wirtz = 22 goal contributions

Yet you said Cunha “gets loads more goals and assists”?

You are being selective, semantic and deliberately misleading in your responses

My original post said "Yeah Cunha a far superior pick, and cheaper!" This means he is likely to return more FPL points. This is the basic point you are dancing around

I said off the cuff Cunha "gets loads more goals and assists". He returned 50% more goals in fewer starts than Wirtz, which are almost twice as many fpl points than assists. He did so while playing for a poor team in the PL meaning he is PL proven (unlike Wirtz) and is also likely to improve this output given the higher quality of players around him, including one of the most creative players to the league.

The above clearly and obviously means that based on current information, which is all we have to go on, Cunha is the better fpl pick, per my original post

If you are narrow the discussion down to a single, narrow and misleading metric of "goal contributions" you are missing the point. There is no fpl point category for "goal contributions"; its 5 points for a midfielder goal and 3 points for an assist. This is why goal scoring mids are preferable to mids who predominantly assist

Hope this helps clarify it for you!

"Goal contributions" is simply a shorthand way of saying "goals and assists" which is the stat YOU originally brought up. You're now trying to move the goal-posts and just bring up goals.

You're also massively assuming that Cunha will do better this season. Ignoring the fact that I can't remember the last time a player has actually improved at United, Cunha will no longer be the main man - he'll lose set-pieces and he'll now be expected to create for Hojlund or Zirkzee, instead of an actually decent striker like Strand-Larsen.

Wirtz will be the main creative outlet for a team who just walked the league and haven't rested on their laurels. Just passing the ball to Salah is worth double-figures in assists alone. I'd be shocked if any attacker at United hits double-figures in any attacking metric this season.

TL;DR - you're undermining your original point (which was false) while making a load of dodgy assumptions to try and make a different point

                        • 7 Years
                        11 months, 10 days ago

My original point was simply Cunha was a better fpl pick, and he DID return more goals and assists "goal contributions" than Wirtz per game.

The more salient point in support of my original post was that the balance of goals/assists was weighted heavily in favour of goals which is obviously far preferable

Ultimately we dont know how Cunha or Wirtz will settle in at new clubs, though Cunhas fpl pedigree clearly weighs in his favor

"Per game" is moving the goal-posts again.

I still trust Wirtz to score more in a team that actually scores goals, "FPL pedigree" means bog all if your team can't create anything.

"Per game is moving the posts" Hilarious. You're suggesting we should just ignore per game data and just use totals even if Cunha returned the same goals/assists as Wirtz in, say half the games played?

Ah silly me you have to be trolling.

Really depends on pre season and how he interacts with Etitike and how Frimpong and Salah interchange. He's the heir apparent to Salah so I assume h'es going to be a very key part in the attack. But with Salah's price and unlikely that he could possibly repeat last year - he's a good choice until proven otherwise.

No. It thought Archie Gray was 4.5m Leeds mid, and that Willock was no longer at Newcastle so Miley was a great 4.5m pick.

Miley does look most likely for minutes for 4.5m mids but that's not the point 😆

Don't get me wrong, I think he's good value but I was replying to why he is 4.5m.

My first draft is weird. Need to do more homework on defensive contributions.

    Verbruggen Areola
    Gvardiol Virgil Colwill Udogie Konsa
    Palmer Fernandes Wirtz Rice Baleba
    Isak Solanke Pedro

Genuinely thinking no Haaland, no Salah. But will play around a lot and see how it goes.
    BB GW1.

I thought you said all the prices were too low? Surely would be able to get at least Haaland or Salah if this was the case.....

Camzy, this may be the first time ever that I have to disagree. Both Salah and Haaland from the start for me.

Could lose pens to Gyokores, and also lose minutes to Madueke. So his value has diminished in my eyes. I'd much rather a Cole Palmer at that price, especially with those fixtures.

    just wondering...

could that 7.5 FWD bracket be overpriced and the 6m DEF bracket be right on the money?

We've often had this in that a bracket under performs and so we dismiss and a bracket over performs and we hoard all our cash there. FPL is a bit like a concertina... that premium DEF bracket was rubbish last year and so we're inclined to go cheap, but wondering if it could be counter-intuitive...

Anyone finding the app incredibly frustrating to use when picking your team? Not sure if it's because it's different from before or it's just badly designed.

Mayenda overtook Isidor as first choice towards the end of the season.

Yeah. I'd probably avoid Sunderland as Burnley are much better defensively and Leeds are much better in attack.

first 3 fixtures I'm thinking Mayenda and Adingra as enablers and then move them on gw4

I'm looking at the £6.5-7.5m midfielder bracket and I still think Rogers is the pick of the bunch. Absolutely nailed, will get you a G/A once every couple games and is only going to improve. I like Semenyo too but that Liverpool fixture GW1 is putting me off

Also looking at Semenyo v Rogers, both nice picks. You’re right though, Rogers was always looking like he can get a return in any fixture last season.

Thoughts on Mbeumo from the off as a United player?

I think I'll want to wait and see with him. If he looks good preseason, I might go for it. It's going to be tricky trying to find an extra 1 mil in my Salah, Wirtz, Palmer, Isak team though.

    Ok first draft guys

    Kelleher (4.0)
Frimpong WAN B Udogie (Munoz, 4.0?)
Salah Saka Wirtz Eze Rice or Kudus
    Bowen Pedro (4.5)

As someone who watches a lot of Championship football and play its fantasy game, Esteve and James could end up being good value. Walker might play in a back 3 so isn't worth the extra .5

NOTHING is working on my app. I can't see my history. I can't see the FDR. I wasn't enrolled in the 1% league. Basically it looks like 20% of the app is working for me and 80% is not. Is ANYONE else having this issue? I can't even find my rank history in desktop.
