Our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 2025/26 team previews continue with Graham Potter’s West Ham United.

Here, their best FPL picks for the upcoming campaign are discussed. We’ll also attempt to predict the line-up for Gameweek 1, review pre-season, detail the best players for defensive contributions (DC) and more.

REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

3pm team news: First league starts for Fullkrug + Gruda 2

BOWEN + FULLKRUG IN TANDEM

Having replaced Julen Lopetegui in January, head coach Potter has now had a full summer to work with his team. Most of last season’s late months were spent lingering in 16th and 17th place but two wins in the final three took West Ham up to a lofty 14th.

What’s filling fans with summer optimism is the blossoming partnership between Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m) and Niclas Fullkrug (£6.0m).

The German’s first year in English football has been decimated by injury, but he finally seems ready to be unleashed. Between them, the pair have collected five goals and two assists in pre-season friendlies, combining to score the opener against Bournemouth.

“I think you can see the link-up is very good. I try to bring the ball to him in his strongest situation, where he can go one-on-one or go in behind. You could see also today, I think there were three or four situations where we linked up very well. He tried to do the same for me.

“Also, when I scored the goal, we worked very well against the ball. That’s also important for strikers. We are the defenders, we recognise it too. I love this guy. He’s my skipper.” – Niclas Fullkrug, speaking about Jarrod Bowen

DEFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT UNDER POTTER

Not exactly renowned for his defence-first approach, Potter nevertheless got more of a tune out of the West Ham backline than Julen Lopetegui did.

As you can see from the graphic above, West Ham’s rolling xGC average went in the right direction after the change in manager.

A tally of 23 goals conceded in 18 games under Potter was the joint-eighth best in the league.

Only three sides allowed the opposition fewer big chances (33) in that time, too.

It didn’t translate into an upturn in clean sheets (just three in 18) but at least the green shoots of recovery are there.

Men, I am back after a 3 year hiatus to begin my long lost Vice. What’s the best template back 3-4 and strikers right now to get me started on my tinkering?

BB GW1. What do you think? 1M to play with, no idea other than upgrade GK.

    Areola (Verbruggen)
VdV - Murillo - Tarkowski (Esteve - Gudmondsson)
    Salah - Palmer - Ndiaye - Anderson - Xhaka
    Watkins - Bowen - Wood

Fair enough. I don't disagree, just a little more risk averse I guess. By picking Sanchez and Esteve, or even AWB I manage the spread evenly.

Any non-Salah side gets poorly rated. I actually dont mind it, but I would drop Bowen to an Evanilson or JSL type, and spend some more money in midfield. I don't love Ndiaye with the Grealish loan. I am sure he still plays but xMins can't be as good as they looked a week ago.

Ndiaye finished the season strongly for Everton with 8 goals in his last 15 starts all comps (Conincides nicely with Moyes return)

With penalties, fixtures and the addition of creativity in KDH and Grealish i can see him having a breakthrough season

For 6.5 he's a great budget option imo. for attackers

    Thoughts?

Good. Slight question marks over both keepers starting gw1? Not sure about double Burnley defence even on your bench, could go for Reinildo over Hartman?

    Sels
    VDV VVD Lewis
    CHO Saka Reijnders Salah
    Watkins Bowen Pedro

    Dubravka Rogers Moreno Hoever

Any thoughts on this plan would be hugely appreciated.

Moreno's a complete non-starter. VDV is a popular choice for no discernable reason.

Going with heavy premium and hitters at the beginning to see which players settle in, free hit gw3 then poss early WC gw4, do you think this could work?

    Kelleher
    Konsa, Diouf, De Cuyper
    Potts, Salah, Palmer, Reijnders
    Haaland, Pedro, Watkins
Bench - Dúbravka, king, esteve, Reinildo
    Mandava

No glaring errors. Don't think it would work long term, but the WC can sort that out

Thinking short term goal then early WC. Not knowing how the man u new guys will settle in plus the Liverpool front three, I can give it a few weeks then wc

Getting closer to the final team. Anything worth changing here? Might change vdv depending on the game tonight.

Pretty good. I prefer Mateta to Pedro, and would change VDV regardless

Cheers, Pedro one of the first names on the team sheet. Form and fixtures too good to ignore. Palace's early fixtures are tough.

        Vdv > diouf?

Thanks Teddy, this helps alot. Performing rubbish in Community Shield is almost perfect so he has a clean slate for the PL season.
