Our weekly early team news summary rounds up all the latest Gameweek 2 injury news ahead of the pre-match press conferences on Thursday and Friday.

ARSENAL

There’s good news for Viktor Gyokeres owners as Kai Havertz is reportedly set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The assessment is still at an early stage, so it’s not yet clear how long he’ll be out – or if his absence will prompt the Gunners to swoop for another attacker in the transfer window.

Gabriel Jesus (knee) remains sidelined, too.

Those two were absent from Wednesday’s open training session – as were Ben White and Christian Norgaard. Norgaard had missed Sunday’s win at Old Trafford with a minor injury, while White was taken off after 71 minutes of that game.

The replacement for White in the event of an injury, Jurrien Timber, was present at this public session but didn’t take part in the training ground game.

ASTON VILLA

Emi Martinez is back from a one-match ban after missing the opening game of the season.

However, it’s one in and one out on the suspension front. Ezri Konsa misses this match, having been sent for the denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity in Gameweek 1.

On the injury front, Ross Barkley and Andres Garcia haven’t been seen since mid-July with supposedly minor issues and remain out.

BOURNEMOUTH

Lewis Cook (knee) is both injured and suspended for this weekend’s clash with Wolves, with the former keeping him out until after the international break.

Enes Unal, meanwhile, is still recovering from a knee injury sustained in January.

Justin Kluivert (calf) was still out as of last Friday, having missed a big chunk of pre-season, but was spotted back on the grass in a training video this week.

Ryan Christie (groin) had already returned to last week and while the Liverpool match came too soon for the midfielder, an extra week of fitness work could stand him in good stead for the Wolves game.

Luis Sinisterra (hamstring) is injury free but looks set for a move away so very likely won’t be involved.

BRENTFORD

It’ll be a huge surprise if the wantaway Yoane Wissa features for the Bees this weekend, with Newcastle United launching another bid for his services on Wednesday night.

As for injuries, Vitaly Janelt (heel), Gustavo Nunes (hamstring) and Paris Maghoma (unknown) remain out.

Mikkel Damsgaard should be back: he missed the defeat to Nottingham Forest to attend the birth of his child.

Ethan Pinnock may even return, too, as only a minor knock kept him out of Gameweek 1.

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

Adam Webster (knee), Solly March (knee) and Julio Enciso (knee) all remain out for Albion.

Jack Hinshelwood is apparently “fine”: he missed out in Gameweek 1 after sitting out the final two weekends of pre-season friendlies but was already back in training ahead of the Fulham draw and merely not risked.

BURNLEY

Zeki Amdouni (knee) and Bashir Humphreys (thigh) are on the sidelines for the Clarets.

Jordan Beyer, making his way back from a long-term knee injury, will still be a “few weeks”, too, after a small setback.

Elsewhere, new boy Armando Broja (match fitness) wasn’t included in the squad to face Tottenham Hotspur last weekend because he had “not had enough work”.

The likes of Connor Roberts and Axel Tuanzebe were also not present in Gameweek 1 after disrupted pre-seasons but Scott Parker said “mainly selection” when asked to explain why certain names were absent in north London.

CHELSEA

Nicolas Jackson is back from a ban but with his future likely elsewhere, it remains to be seen if he’ll feature. He is at least training with his teammates, unlike some other wantaway strikers.

Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended, while Levi Colwill is out long term with a knee injury.

Benoit Badiashile and Romeo Lavia are still out, too. Neither player has featured since the FIFA Club World Cup.

Tosin Adarabioyo sat out the goalless draw with Palace with a “very minor” issue and, indeed, he has been pictured back in training on Wednesday.

CRYSTAL PALACE

Long-term absentees Chadi Riad and Cheick Doucoure remain out, as do Eddie Nketiah (hamstring), Matheus Franca (adductor) and Caleb Kporha (back).

Daichi Kamada picked up a knee injury in the Community Shield, missed Gameweek 1 and is still not back in training, so he looks set to sit out Thursday’s UEFA Conference League play-off first-leg tie against Fredrikstad.

Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi have trained all week with their teammates, amid speculation about their futures. Both are set to start in Europe.

EVERTON

Jarrad Branthwaite (hamstring) is out, while we await an update on Vitalii Mykolenko and Adam Aznou. Mykolenko exited the final friendly against Roma after just 10 minutes and missed out against Leeds United on Monday, as did his understudy Aznou. David Moyes said afterwards that he “didn’t know” whether either would be back in Gameweek 2.

Nathan Patterson (hernia symptoms) has resumed light training, however, as per the usually reliable El Bobble.

FULHAM

Fulham were without both of their left-backs last weekend but it seems like they are both closing in on returns.

Ryan Sessegnon, who hobbled off in the first half of Fulham’s final pre-season friendly, was even in training before the draw with Brighton and Hove Albion but failed to prove his match-readiness.

Antonee Robinson (knee), who missed the whole of the summer, was “already involved in some things with the team”, too.

Andreas Pereira‘s omission from the squad was “tactical”.

LEEDS UNITED

Jaka Bijol returns from suspension this weekend so with Sebastiaan Bornauw and Jayden Bogle both recovering from injuries to make the Gameweek 1 squad, Leeds very briefly had no availability concerns.

Ethan Ampadu did come off against Everton, however, although Daniel Farke was hoping that it was “just a bruise”.

LIVERPOOL

Ryan Gravenberch is back from a one-match ban served in Gameweek 1.

Injury-wise, Conor Bradley (Achilles) remains a concern ahead of Monday’s trip to Newcastle United.

There was double the worry at right-back, indeed, with Jeremie Frimpong feeling his hamstring in the season-opener against Bournemouth.

Arne Slot’s post-match comments made it sound like it was a precautionary substitution so that injury would be avoided, but it’ll be interesting to hear what he has to say in Thursday’s pre-match presser.

MANCHESTER CITY

Savinho (unknown) and Mateo Kovacic (Achilles) will miss Gameweek 2 but an image has emerged on Wednesday of another opening-weekend absentee, Josko Gvardiol, doing some form of training.

Ederson, who sat out Gameweek 1 with a stomach bug, has also been spotted.

Phil Foden (ankle) and Rodri (groin/match fitness) travelled to Molineux on Saturday but weren’t included in the squad.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Lisandro Martinez (knee) and Noussair Mazraoui (unknown) are the only United absentees we know about for Gameweek 2.

NEWCASTLE UNITED

There seems to be a greater chance of Micky Quinn leading the line for Newcastle on Monday than Alexander Isak. Both player and club have taken potshots at the other in statements issued this week, with the Swede training alone as of Wednesday.

Isak aside, Eddie Howe the Magpies only have one known absentee for Gameweek 2. That’s Joe Willock, who suffered a calf injury in the match against K League on July 30 and was ruled out for 4-6 weeks.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Nicolas Dominguez will be out until the autumn after undergoing knee surgery over the summer. Other than that, though, we think Forest’s first team is injury-free.

SUNDERLAND

Aji Alese (shoulder), Luke O’Nien (shoulder), Dennis Cirkin (wrist) and Leo Hjelde (Achilles) will all be absent until Gameweek 4 at the earliest.

Romaine Mundle is currently sidelined with a hamstring issue until October, too.

Jensen Seelt is the newest concern from Gameweek 1 but Regis Le Bris hoped the injury that forced him off against West Ham United wasn’t serious.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Destiny Udogie (knee) was said to be “progressing” in his rehab last Friday but the Burnley game came too soon for him.

Manor Solomon (calf) was only just back in training last week after missing pre-season, meanwhile.

Dejan Kulusevski (knee), Koto Takai (foot), Radu Dragusin (knee) and long-term absentee James Maddison (knee) remain out.

Yves Bissouma apparently “got injured in training” before the win over the Clarets, having missed the previous game against Paris Saint-Germain due to ill discipline.

WEST HAM UNITED

Crysencio Summerville (hamstring) and George Earthy (ankle) remain out for the Hammers.

Luis Guilherme meanwhile reportedly missed the Sunderland loss due to a broken collarbone.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS

Wolves have only one issue that we’re aware of: Leon Chiwome is still recovering from a knee injury sustained in January.

        Or Richards + 0.5
I would have him over Guehi whilst the transfer window remains open

What would people do here? Now I know I get two free-hits I am debating using it this week.. But also, team looks pretty fine to roll? Opting for Dubravka and Gudmonsson Over Sels and Diouf just purely based on the fixtures/not having players playing against each other.

    Dubravka
    Gudmondsson - Munoz - RAN
    Sarr - Wirtz - Bruno - Palmer - Reijnders
    Haaland - Bowen

    Sels - Diouf - VDV - Guiu

I can't see any reason to play a FH.

I'm still debating whether to play Sels or Dubravka but am leaning Dubravka.

I'd play Diouf. Gudmunsson VDV and him all concede I think so go either greater defcon potential or greatest threat which is Diouf.

    Play Sels or Dubs?

Will Guiu get the next game?

Do you Leeds getting anything at Ars?

    Sels,
    Cucu, Hartman, Porro
Palmer, Salah, Semenyo, Reijnders, I Sarr
    Pedro, Watkins

    Dubs, Guiu, Gudmund, Diouf,

      Sels

Pros: Plays for the better team, is a better keeper, sounds like Eze might not be on Palace anymore.
Cons: Away game, Palace are going to be raging and will want to take their anger out on Forest

      Dubravka

Pros: Home game, playing a promoted side
Cons: Plays for a promoted side, not as good as Sels

If not go with Dub as he is playing at home while Sels is playing away.

Also Burnley 33% CS chance, NFO 23%. I think Palace are a really good side at the moment, and id be surprised if they can't find a goal against NFO no matter how well they defend.

If Eze comes in and nails down the LW role for Arsenal, surely he's an absolute bargain at £7.5m?!

Can't really go wrong with either, but I've gone Mbeumo. Passed the eye test more and looked threatening everytime he was on the ball.

Mbeumo will end up feeding Cunha is my thinking so even though Mbeumo looks the solid pick I think a tenacious Cunha will bag more goals. (Berbatov + Keane style)

I'm curious why you'd want to ditch Richarlison so soon. He was a risky bet and paid off handsomely in GW1. Sure, he now has one tough fixture, but then it gets a lot easier until GW9.

      1. Uns95
        • 7 Years

My thinking is that once Solanke is back fully fit Richarlison may not be a starter for Spurs and more coming off the bench - that’s my concern.

        1. martynteresa
            3 months, 16 days ago

Agree that Solanke will be starter. Frank said after game that they need to work on building Richarlison up to required fitness level which will take some time.
He will probably get the start this week cos of his 2 goals but Solanke should be starter in GW3

Anyone doing Palmer and Watkims to Amderson and Haalans tonight to get in before the price rise? Finished top 1% last season after making early changes and surely tempted again!

We had 5 braces in GW1:

        ST vs Brentford
        Next up: WATKINS

        ST vs West Ham
        Next up: JOAO PEDRO

(Finished Top 1% in 8 out of 9 seasons I've played.)

Wildcard Team, 0.7m still in bank:

      Sels, Dúbravka
Richards, Acheampong, Ballard, Van de Ven, N Williams
      Semenyo, Mbeumo, Palmer, Reijnders, Ndiaye
      Haaland, Ekitiké, Wood

No Arsenal yet due to tough fixtures....Sels, Dúbravka,Richards, Van de Ven, Palmer, Reijnders, Ndiaye, Ekitiké...all in GW1 team but wanted to get Haaland in asap. Semenyo looked good and has favourable fixtures. Swapped Bruno for Mbeumo who looked the main threat for Man U. Acheampong man of the match for Chelsea last week.

Acheampong is currently a better option than Esteve (popular choice) . Ndiaye may be on penalties for Everton. but thanks for the comments

Acheampong is only starting due to a short term injury and not better than Esteve, clearly. Ndiaye is garbage and plays for Everton.

Huge waste of a WC for me this bud, it is absolutely chasing last weeks points, and for what? Your team can’t be that bad after one GW!

Oh, no, don’t get me wrong, I hope you are the one laughing with improvements and scoring better for sure bud! I just personally think it’s a lot of chasing from last weeks points after only just one GW, but very true, accumulating 5 FT’s is very helpful. I only collected to that amount just once last season haha!

I’m totally with you on wildcard now mate. Got some stick for playing mine now as well but it paid off for me well going early last year finishing at 68K which was a PB. Now I’ve got Salah, Haaland, Reijnders, Dubravka and a playing 4M defender all of which I probably should have started with anyway. Going early can pay off big time!

Don’t sweat it. Set your team up for a few weeks now, build up a few transfers and you’ll be able to change it around it again. Good luck!

midfielder vs fwd, so technical points gain. I think haaland has a banging start this year and city will be champions so not as clear cut this time round but it's hard to go haaland over salah simply for the positional gain.

        Hi.

        Money is not the issue.

Get Anderson or take a punt with shot monster (5 shots last game) , Gordon?

Reckon Gordon still play as starter even new striker arrive.

Gordon had 7 shots last game only 2 were on target and none looked like scoring. I don't think he's a bad pick but certainly no rush. I guess this is WC

Just had a quick thought that an obvious option Slot can and may use this week is to bench Gakpo from the start and play 4 3 1 2 with Gravenberch back + Mac+ Slob, with wirthz behind two wide attackers (Eki drifting left to central and Salah wide) so basically Wirtz as a false 9.

Think this will be very fixture specific to overcome the Newcastle midfield 3. I still plan to have Gakpo in the WC i think as will be great value, but think can start Dorgu over him this week. other option is of course to Go Wirtz longterm over Gakpo.

This is why i have no Gakpo, and if Isak turns up then it's even harder for him to start, Ekiteke competes out left..

I have been thinking about this point a lot also and the obvious look people are taking is one where its a choice between Gakpo, Wirtz and Szobo for 2 positions and I do agree that Grav comes straight back in and plays with Macca either in a doubl pivot or as a 6 and 8. Newcastle are very strong in midfield and I feel Szobo has to play in there to battle in midfield.

So either they play as u suggest where then it could be between Gakpo and Ekitike for that left side role or Wirtz goes left and Gakpo sits out or finally Wirtz sits out. I feel Szobo will play for sure.

My feeling is that Gakpo played too well off the ball to be dropped so I think it will be Ekitike that actually ends up sitting out to start the game and it will be set up somewhat like what you have said, a 4-3-1-2/ 4-2-2-2 type of setup, Gakpo and Mo on the wide fwd, Wirtz and Szobo going false 9 and dropping in to disrupt the midfield and Grav and Macca double pivot. Something similar to the set up away at City last season.

I know this may seem obvious but bench one pleaseeee?

              A) Bowen (Bowen has a knack of scoring in the tougher games which is why I’m not sure)
              B) Reijnders

Is there a standout Bowen replacement this week? Don’t think so…
Already have Watkins & Ekitike. Can’t get to Haaland.

I would not bench Bowen. West Ham always go hard the full 90+ minutes for these London derbies.

Reijnders vs Spurs seems to have a lower ceiling, both due to Pep roulette and Spurs defence being better prepared for him.

I would go Verbruggen or Sanchez over Petrovic - CS is close but after watching GW1, Wolves and Everton attacks both pretty week but Brighton def much better than Bournemouth.

I would swap Tark for a better CS chance - one of the Chelsea defenders? Don't love Bruno in the Fulham matchup as I think Fulham are a top 6-8 defense. If I was going Man U I would go Cunha/Mbeumo to allow the other 1m in defense. Love the front 3.

Here would be my swaps if I had to stick to one option:
                Petrovic > Sanchez
                Tark > Cucu
                Bruno > Mbeumo

It was worse than embarrassing tbh, almost like a ship sailing into an iceberg field where the lookout did not have access to binoculars because nobody had a key to the cabinet where they were locked away.
