In this article, we will discuss the pros and cons of a Gameweek 3 Wildcard.

We will also provide two draft ideas that take into account the recent injuries to Cole Palmer (£10.5m) and Bukayo Saka (£10.0m).

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have until the Gameweek 19 deadline to use the first Wildcard.

Don’t forget that you can get your Wildcard team rated via our Rate My Team tool or Plan FPL!

Fantasy EFL Gameweek 4: Injury news

GAMEWEEK 3 WILDCARD: THE PROS

FPL notes: Palmer injury latest, Pedro haul + West Ham wide open

  • If you haven’t got off to a good start in FPL 2025/26, a Gameweek 3 Wildcard allows you to freshen up your squad. This could be beneficial if you own players like Palmer, Saka, Rayan Ait-Nouri (£6.1m) and Jeremie Frimpong (£5.9m) who are currently flagged, or underperforming assets such as Ollie Watkins (£9.0m) and Morgan Rogers (£7.0m). A Wildcard provides an opportunity to address those concerns in a hit-free manner.
  • This week will likely see plenty of price rises and falls, so team value can be increased by ditching the droppers and jumping on bandwagons. Players such as Joao Pedro (£7.5m), Richarlison (£6.6m) and Chris Wood (£7.6m) are forecast to rise tonight. You can monitor these changes using Live FPL’s price predictions tool, which is the most reliable one out there.
  • Given that they are ranked second and fifth on our Season Ticker in Gameweeks 3-10, it could be beneficial to get on Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United players early. Both teams have favourable fixtures in Gameweek 3, against Bournemouth (h) and Leeds United (a) respectively.

GAMEWEEK 3 WILDCARD: THE CONS

On WC currently and landed on this, but still unsure whether no Haaland is the play? Would move one of Mbeumo/Cunha to Semenyo after the Burnley game as I have 1.8m in the bank here.

    Vicario
    Cucu - Munoz - Porro
    Reijnders - Salah - Cunha - Mbeumo - Gordon
    Joao Pedro - Wood

    Dubravka - Dorgu - Esteve - Nmecha

      Like it....

Reijnders may be benchable on GWs where the experts predict if he'll play more of a DM role....any funds for Richarlison ? Maybe a 5.5 defender to a 4.5?

I have the funds for Richarlison with the 1.8m in the bank anyway, so i could do that and play 343, but means benching Reijnders?

Reindeer has bha next, doesn't scream goals, not sure if Pep is just restricting Reindeers against more attacking opposition. Not sure what the experts say about Reindeers position this gw

Cherki playing made Reijnders drop deep, but he was back in that attacking role when Cherki was subbed out.

Pep will switch it up again in pep-fashion. I'm hoping, as a Haaland owner, that he starts with the same midfield he went with against Wolves.

Yeah who knows. That said some are pretty good at predicting Pep such as Luke/Disable on X/BlueSky

I think Haaland or no Haaland depends on if Isak goes to Liverpool

In what scenario would Haaland not be an option? He already might be better than Salah & when Isak goes to LIV he for sure will be.

I would swap one of Cunha/Mbeumo to King and upgrade Nmecha to Ekitike if possible

Could do that, or i can do Nmecha do Richarlison?

I could swap one of the United boys to a 5.5m midfielder, and then Ekitike comes in?

OP might be OK with it though...if there's one thing we've learned, again, is that the promoted sides, WHAM, Wolves are very targetable away from home

Considering WC for GW3 given Palmer situation - and Villa underperformers - and think Salah and Haaland might well be the way forward. Spurs game hasn't put me off City - think they'll be better this season with more coming Haaland's way. It won't be soaraway stuff but he's a reliable, premium asset.

Kudus doesn't have much goal threat, Rendeer might play DM regularly like last GW, not sure if Haaland is worth the funds with all mid priced strikers firing with good fixtures

    3. Mr Turnip 1
        6 months, 6 days ago

Absolutely do it. The chances of a player getting injured in a given game are low. Much better to take the risk and gain the team value rather than let yourself get priced out of your ideal moves

Go for it man. It's absolutely criminal that Ndoye who has regularly been getting into advanced attacking positions is not up for consideration. Wirtz for instance is looking like a huge mistake for me at this point with time it will take him to bed in. Gakpo was the second highest scorer last season yet he was not being considered. Most content creators have absolutely whiffed this season so far. Go with your gut. You will be rewarded for it.

Damn, your team looks like it's built nicely for this round but the injuries have screwed you over. If Palmer is fit it's an easy -4, otherwise I have the same dilemma.

Haha that’s true. But I think you have an FT in hand at least, correct me if I’m wrong. I rage sold Watkins after his blank vs Brentford then Saka got injured lol

I know Liverpool are missing Mac Allister and Frimpong from the squad but when you see those two benches together, Newcastle's is possibly stronger? Not much in it anyway. The depth at Liverpool, particularly in certain areas of the pitch is quite alarming and it is starting to feel like they've sacrificed squad depth for quality in the starting 11 with some of the transfer fees on the very large side, which is fine if they all stay healthy. Whereas Arsenal, Chelsea, City have really added some serious depth.

Hence why it’s mental to chase a £150m striker when they need a CB and DM too

      My WC:

      Pickford (Dubravka)
      VVD Saliba Munoz (Esteve Reinildo)
      Salah Sarr Mbuemo Semenyo (Reijnders)
      J. Pedro Gyokeres Richarlison

      How's that look?

It’s decent but have 4 players in one game. I’d also prefer Cunha to Mbeumo. He could have easily had a brace yesterday

But once sesko came on, Cunha dropped back compared to mbeuma. So I am not sure Cunha over mbeuma is good forward

K then, (C) Gordon's surely to save yet another miserable week. Surely.

      Would you hold this

Or pull the Wildcard and spread funds around

      Sanchez

      VDV Konsa Williams

      Salah Bruno Anderson Wirtz KDH
      Haaland Pedro

      Dub Guiu Diof Esteve

Since when did FFS mess the fixture ticker up to always start at GW 1 - or do you need a premium gold membership to access an updating version ?

Best suggestions to avoid using a wildcard? Makes for pretty rough reading

      Current team:
      GK: sanchez dubravka
Def: Ait - Nouri (injured?), Murillo, Lacroix, De Cuyper ESteve
Mid: Wirtz, Georginio Rutter (Injured?), Palmer (injured?), Saka (Injured), B. Fernandes
      Fwd: Watkins, Ekitike, Guiu

      2 FTs

Have one defender option for G3-
      Livramento (5m)
      Or Porro (5.5M)
Or Van De Veen (4.5M) Or
      Chalobah (5M ) Or Cucurella (6.1M)
      Which to choose?
