It’s time for another Gameweek 3 team reveal as the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline approaches.

Here, FPL Milanista â€“ who has three top 5k finishes in the last five seasons – explains why he’s going with Arsenal’s premium midfielder.

GAMEWEEK 2 REVIEW

The first couple of weekends haven’t exactly gone to plan. Despite a summer of planning that pieced together a seemingly strong squad, the points aren’t flowing, and now there’s injury and uncertainty surrounding key players.

Many of the supposedly obvious picks are underperforming. Highly owned assets keep blanking, while differential punts are yet to pay off. Even the safer routes have turned turbulent. It’s been an extremely frustrating start for me and many managers.

One of the more disappointing moments came in Gameweek 2, where my strategy hinged on a maverick Bukayo Saka (£10.0m) captaincy against Leeds United. On paper, it looked quite clever – a high-ceiling player against a leaky side.

But football has a way of humbling us quickly. Saka was forced off with an injury before the 60-minute mark, meaning no clean sheet point or captaincy bonus. Instead of a smart gamble, it’s turned into a costly setback.

Cole Palmer’s (£10.5m) injury flag only adds to the growing list of concerns. He’s an important part of my midfield setup and his availability could still prove crucial, depending on the latest update.

Then there’s Florian Wirtz (£8.4m). His inclusion was always going to be a calculated risk, as I knew he might take time to get going. While the returns haven’t yet arrived, I’m not in a hurry to sell. Facing Burnley and Everton in Gameweeks 4 and 5 provide great opportunities, and I have more pressing issues to address.

Perhaps a Wildcard? I completely understand why some are hitting that button. If your team is structurally flawed or riddled with injuries, it’s a valid option.

But for me, it feels premature. The teams I’m backing are still top of the Fixture Ticker, and I don’t see a Wildcard squad that significantly improves my current lot. Furthermore, I see the dramatic fixture swings around Gameweeks 7 and 8 as a more optimal time to reset.

People only choose a player they have, rather than the best captain. If more people had Haaland, they’d vote Haaland but they don’t because they mostly all own Salah

Not really? Doesn't it make the poll an accurate reflection of what the users of this site are going for? Sabotage aside...

            • 11 Years
            10 months, 24 days ago

The poll is "Who do you think is the best captain for GW3?" not "Who are you going to captain in GW3?"

            Very different questions.

              • 2 Years

You have too much faith in folks being able to differentiate between the two. Lots will see the poll and assume it's asking them to vote for who they are captaining.

"Doesn't often score more than one" and "scored twice 2 games ago" aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, that actually makes "doesn't often score more than one" a stronger claim.

I just did Palmer -> Semenyo (Palmer price point + not sure how long he’s out + being in the 10 vs the right convinced me)
    Also did Guiui -> Pedro

    Current team sits like:

    Dubravka Verburggen

    Watkins Haaland JPedro

    Thoughts?

In my opinion if you're not sure who to sell Palmer for then it might be best to ride it out. Lot of information can be gathered from GW3 when its thus is early in the season. He's only had one bad game why did you put him in the first place? If you do want him back your whole structure might change

Obviously but my point is its probably just 1 week out. Not worth a hit in my opinion. And then who you going to get instead? Liverpool and Arsenal have a tough fixture, amd cheapies are cheapies. Not a great use of a transfer. A transfer is worth 4 points and could be more valuable saving until you're more certain of who you want

Sold palmer as soon as he got injured in the warm up. Bought reindeer. Used my other free transfer to sell my captain gyokeres for Haaland. Totally changed my structure and sitting pretty after getting 75 in gw2. You make it sound like people who sell palmer are wrong. Quite comfortable with my (H)aaland gw 3 team. Not saying people should copy me. It may be wise to keep palmer but your post remains narrow minded. Many people got rid of palmer for a forward just like me and we may just be right. Just cause the midfield options are spare doesn't mean you need to hold a player who did nothing for 2 Weeks and may well do nothing for several more

same set up vs wolves as it worked well imo. cherki didnt stand out, foden is getting fitness. marmoush or doku at LW is tough to call. but if Pep wants his LB to invert and sit abit deeper (which is likely if RAN out), then Doku to start imo

    RAN* Porro Diouf ( DeCuyper/Gudmnssn )
    Salah Palmer* KDH Reijnders Wirtz
    Watkins Gyokeres ( Guiu )

    2 FT / 0 ITB

If RAN & Palmer are out for maybe 3 weeks which means they will be mostly ready after IB, shall I roll next GW3 and bench them so I can have 3 FT by GW4 and also after the transfers window is closed ?

Records mean the square root of nothing. Look at Watkins v Newcastle and Brentford. There's loads of examples.

Watkinsv Newcastle? is't it like 5g in 10 games?

I have a theory that after Sarr's 25m move to Vill fell through he was so annoyed that he's on a mission to destroy them lol

Apparently Palace can play the squad early on in the Conference League, if they qualify.

          So it should ease off

no. and if reports are true and they've signed Pino, at least thats a right footed, left 10, that can provide some creativity that palace (well mainly mateta/sarr) need moving forwards. sarr is a second striker, he's a top pick.

You can’t be benching an attacker that expensive every week, unless you’re bench boosting I guess

Why are so many captaining Fernandes? Have people not seen either of Utd's first 2 games and the position he's playing? He's not playing in an attacking position. He's a defensive midfielder. Even Mount is further forward. Are people just relying on Utd getting another penalty? Personally I would want more from my captain than defcon pts and the vein hope of a penalty.

Really don't think Salah is a better captain pick based on his form and the fact Arsenal haven't conceded a single big chance this season yet.

Did I say anything about Cunha? No. So how am I lying? I was talking about Bruno. Yes Cunha has marginally higher goalscoring odds but not Bruno. Salah is also an assist machine.

in a parallel universe, bruno has got 4 + 12 so far this season 😉

he wont be deep vs burnely, even vs arsenal he was often getting to the edge of the box.

He probably won't even get the DefCon in a fixture like Burnley where you would expect United to dominate possession.

Feels silly to replace Palmer this week when I have a bench this strong.

    Play 1:
    A) Tosin (FUL)
    B) P. Sarr (BOU)
    C) Sell Palmer for Cunha and bench both A+B

I agree - unless you want to sell him and bench boost. Toss up between A and B - both good options. Good chance of a clean sheet but that's never a certainty and if you're more of an upside manager you might go B

Well Cunha and Mount are sharing the same position, so one of them has to play. Amorim's probably be careful with Mount after his recent injuries.

Dorgu I've no idea. I guess he doesn't think Leon is ready.

Benjamin Sesko makes his first for Manchester United while Kobbie Mainoo lines up in midfield with Andre Onana in goal.

Ruben Amorim has made eight changes from Man Utd's 1-1 draw at Fulham on Sunday.

Mainoo hasn't come off the bench in their first two league games while Onana also makes his first appearance of the season.

Sesko has featured for Man Utd, but this is the first time he leads the line from the start.

Matheus Cunha, Patrick Dorgu and Amad Diallo are the three players who keep their places from the weekend.

Diego Leon is on the bench for the first time this season since joining from Cerro Porteno.

Man Utd: Onana; Fredricson, Maguire, Heaven; Dalot, Ugarte, Mainoo, Dorgu; Amad, Sesko, Cunha.

Subs: Bayindir, Heaton, De Ligt, Leon, Casemiro, Fernandes, Mount, Mbeumo, Zirkzee
