Crystal Palace’s progress to the EFL Cup quarter-finals creates a scheduling headache in mid-December.

The last eight of that competition is due to be contested in the week beginning December 15. Palace have been drawn to play Arsenal in the quarter-finals.

*This article has been updated at 11:55 BST following a BBC Sport story

LACK OF FREE MIDWEEKS

But Palace’s schedule is already pretty packed, thanks to their UEFA Conference League involvement (below image from BBC Sport):

*fixtures from Dec 27 onwards have yet to be finalised

The problem is the lack of other free midweeks between now and January.

There is only one for Palace – and that’s on December 23/24.

COULD TWO GAMEWEEK 17 MATCHES BE POSTPONED?

One suggestion is that Leeds v Crystal Palace and Arsenal v Everton in Gameweek 17 are instead postponed.

That would help accommodate the EFL Cup quarter-final between Arsenal and Palace on Sunday 21 December.

LATEST REPORTS: BLANK GAMEWEEK 17 LOOKING UNLIKELY

However, BBC Sport are now reporting that Blank Gameweek 17 doesn’t look likely. Instead, the Eagles would contest two cup ties in the space of 48 hours.

If the BBC are correct, Palace’s schedule would now read as follows:

  • Sunday 14 December: Gameweek 16 – Man City (h)
  • Tuesday 16 December: EFL Cup quarter-final – Arsenal (a)
  • Thursday 18 December: Conference League – KuPS (h)
  • Sunday 21 December: Gameweek 17 – Leeds (a)

ONLY SPECULATION AT THIS STAGE

It’s still not confirmed at this early stage, then, but something just to be aware of regarding future FPL planning and (especially) chip usage. If you’ve got a Free Hit intact, for instance, this might come in useful if we do get a ‘blank’ – not that now looks likely.

We’ll hopefully not have to speculate much longer and get a definitive answer from the Premier League and the Football League soon.

This whole situation was an inevitable consequence of half the league being in europe this season. Expect more carnage in the 2nd half of the season with the league cup final and latter stages of fa cup

The Premier League is so far ahead of the other leagues and the gap continues to grow. Outside of a few European elite clubs no one can compete with the PL. Look at the spending this summer of the PL compared to the other top 5 leagues

            Liverpool lost to Galatasary
            City drew to Monaco
Spurs drew to Monaco and Bodo/Glimt
            Palace lost to AEK
Villa lost to Go Ahead Eagles
Forest lost to Midtjylland and drew to Betis

Are you trying to say all of these matches were played with B-teams?

Yes, definitely, all 8,000,000 of you should sell him at once which will only give a .1 drop and leave me to reap the rewards!!

Not a chance is it over. The next 2 might be a bit harder (but he scored a brace against Liverpool remember so could repeat it against an out of sorts City), but it certainly doesn’t mean he’s down and out. Drop him at your peril….. not that I’m biased of course.

Should have taken a hit to do Gakpo to Mbuemo last week so dont want to play it safe but still feels very sideways!

Any thoughts on Cunha (MUN) as an option?

I was really keen on him earlier in the season, ready to jump in if ever he/United came into form, mostly due to his ability to score from out of nowhere from low-quality chances. So he doesn't need to match other attackers for xG to pique my interest, so long as he's getting into good positions at the right times and building up some confidence in front of goal.

But is that happening yet? Is he too deep? Does he maraud satisfactorily? Get into the box? Is United better with him playing, or is that only for certain game types/states? I'll do my own research if I get too itchy.

Also, forget about Mbuemo. I'm interested to learn about Cunha only. I cannot process too many factors at once, as I start to overheat and nearby things might burst into flames. And who better to learn from than my friends Baines on Toast, Defcons are for Kinnear, x.jim.x, Philosopher's Stones, ᶠᶦˡᵗʰʸLucre $$$, Bobby Digital, Atimis, AC/DC AFC, g40steve, Ask Yourself, 1912 F.A Cup Winners and everyone else they hang with in this green place. Any friend of Kinnear, x.jim.x, Philosopher's Stones, ᶠᶦˡᵗʰʸLucre $$$, Bobby Digital, Atimis, AC/DC AFC, g40steve, Ask Yourself and 1912 F.A Cup Winners, is a friend of mine.

I think you get Mbeumo first and then get Cunha, if you want to double up. If you don't have the dosh for Mbeumo and can only afford Cunha, then sure... get Cunha.

After Doku played 90 mins last night, the only thing holding me back from selling him for Cunha, is that it would be for a hit. I def think he’s worth a shot as a diff over Boomo.

          • 9 Years

I think I'm gonna do it for a hit (already brought in Mbeumo for free this week). Hopefully, he'll be a long-term pick, and the hit buys an extra FT for the next 7GWs before we're topped up to 5, which may be handy since I'm down to 0 again (can always use this rationale to justify a hit! :D).

            • 8 Years

I'm thinking about adding Cunha to my Mbeumo as well. Gakpo would have to go in that case, but keeping Gakpo for now.

              • 9 Years

Yeah I'd rather have Cunha, but then you have the GW12 fixture shift for Liverpool, so you're kinda obliged to keep him

      4. Utopsis
        • 5 Years

Mbeumo more routes to points and less of a rotation risk

      5. x.jim.x
        • 11 Years

Cunha's been brilliant from a footballing perspective, but I'm still unsure about his FPL potential. He's been quite unlucky tbf, and should probably have picked up more goal contributions, but his main role has been progressing the ball from midfield, and getting it to the over-lapping wingback or Sesko. Maybe finally dropping his 00-status will change his luck around, but there are still question marks over him for now.

Despite putting 4 past Brighton, I'm not convinced we've turned into this unstoppable goal-scoring machine suddenly. We've got Dyche's first home game up next, which has 'banana peel' written all over it, followed by Spurs away, so I wouldn't be rushing to double up on attackers. Mbeumo is still the only pick for now, I think.

It seems low risk, the chances of Arsenal not keeping a clean sheet are as low as Haaland not scoring. And Gabriel always seems to get defcon/bonus etc. When the Arsenal DGW reports came a few hours ago I was all for Gabriel TC.

I agree, all 3, Timber, Gabriel and Cali all with decent chances of returns through stacking, Defcons clean sheets etc. think I’m going to do it although I’ll have to decide between Cali and Timber.

          Tark or Virgil
Tark not worth it with Keane an alternative
Virgil definitely not worth it unless Pool suddenly improve but if they do he's a great asset and one of few reliable options at Pool.

Thanks, leaning towards selling Tark. Agree on the value re Keane.
Also feel Virgil has more goal threat and will get easier fixtures soon.

2 free transfers, got the funds and thinking of doing Foden to Mbuemo... any reason not to and to keep Foden?

Do you have any other way to get Mateta? Gyo vs Burnley could easily bang a random goal or two

Weren't sports desks simply reporting the fixture schedule as is?

It could still change for Crystal Palace et al.

Would you rather have Saka and Minteh, or Rice and Mbeumo? Rice currently top scoring arsenal mid, could it be worth the sacrifice?

I'm hoping it has been Semenyo's bad back that has made him be fairly anonymous this game
