The first Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline of 2026 is nearing – so it’s also time for the first Scout Picks of the calendar year.

As usual, we are limited by certain restrictions.

  • An £83.0m budget for our starting XI
  • An overall squad limit of £100.0m
  • No more than three players per team

GAMEWEEK 20 SCOUT PICKS

GOALKEEPER

FPL notes: Palmer's misses, 'OOP' Neto + Evanilson's first minutes 4

Bart Verbruggen (£4.5m) earns a place in the Scout Picks on account of Brighton and Hove Albion’s home meeting with Burnley. Not renowned for their impressive underlying defensive stats, Fabian Hurzeler’s side have nevertheless kept four clean sheets in 10 matches since the start of November. Verbruggen has also been racking up the save points of late, with seven to his name in as many outings, the most of any goalkeeper. Burnley, meanwhile, have scored just three times in their last three road trips.

DEFENDERS

FPL notes: Gabriel hauls, why Saliba was a sub + Livramento injury 3

Gabriel Magalhaes’ (£6.4m) aerial prowess could prove key at both ends of the pitch for Arsenal’s away encounter at Bournemouth. The Cherries have conceded 12 non-penalty goals from set-pieces this season, the joint-most of any team. They’ve also scored just one goal in their last three home matches. Arsenal are consequently one of the bookies’ favourites to keep a clean sheet in Gameweek 20, as below.

FPL Gameweek 20: Best clean sheet odds

James Tarkowski (£5.6m) hosts Brentford on the back of six clean sheets in nine matches. Keith Andrews’ side, who will have had two fewer days of rest, have struggled to find the net on their travels, too, scoring in only two of their last five away games. Additionally, Tarkowski has the edge over every other FPL defender except Marcos Senesi (£4.9m) when it comes to defensive contributions (DefCon), with an average of 10.89 DefCons per 90 minutes.

Suspended for the midweek trip to Arsenal, Matty Cash (£4.8m) looks set to return for Aston Villa’s home showdown with Nottingham Forest. The corner-taking right-back has three goals and one assist in 18 appearances this season. He’s joint-fifth for shots and joint-14th for chances created among all Fantasy defenders, too. As for Forest, only West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers have fashioned fewer big chances than the Tricky Trees in 2025/26.

Does Rodon need to be hitted out for Alderete or King for Miley, or is FT Chalobah to Gabriel enough?

    Only sub is Senesi

Reply fail to I Have no Wirtz 🙂

O’Reilly better fixture this week, but leaning towards keeping Chalobah for upcoming fixtures and get a City spot free for Cherki or Semenyo

Same mate. Pope, Saliba, Bruno, Rice, all in just before they got Injured. I could write a book on the bad luck I've had this season. Going Saliba alone cost me about 40 points swing and killed my cash leagues

Tough, at least hopefully we can save a few fts to cover no wc later.

Yeah I'm looking at the WC but honestly I've never experienced it where everything I do goes wrong so actually picking a WC probably not the best idea. I'll get Palmer and Saka though. What team you got so far?

I could get an ok team out for a -4 but just not liking it.
Havnt pressed the button yet, but Id go 8 changes something like

            Pickford*
            Gab* Timber Tarks*
            Foden* Rogrs Gord Saka*/Palmer
            DCL Haaland Bowen*

            Dub Mukiele* Ekdal* Devenny

Not wanting to be the harbinger of doom

But you might get another two soon.

But if course a wildcard is good when shifting 5/6 + of your core team

      Or 9/10 overall

rice, thiago & oreilly>>>gabriel, garner & bowen for a -4 hit. (note, i have hincapie and raya already)

    Raya
    Timber Virgil Hall Dorgu
    Saka Foden Cunha Minteh
    Haaland(c) Ekitike

    Dubravka Le Fee Kroupi Rodon

    2FT, 0.0 ITB

Wanna get Gabriel in. Which path is better? Keeping Raya saves some money over keeping Timber.

    A) Raya, Virgil > Verbruggen/Sanchez, Gabriel
    B) Timber > Gabriel

On WC and have 11 new players for the new year. What do you think overall? Retained Dub, Haaland, DCL, Foden.

Out: Raya, Ballard, Collins, Chalobah, O’Reilly, Senesi, Cunha, Wirtz, Ekitike, Wilson, Rice

In: Verb, Tark, Timber, Gabby, Hall, Alderete, Garner, Rogers, Palmer, Bruno G, Bowen,

A bit worried about dumping Ekitike and Wilson, but pretty happy in all

    1. JT11fc

Similar stuff on wc for me too, would be worried about Hall with Livra back soon and slight doubt in the longer term, the rest is solid enough

WC button pushed. But still big dillema. Which one - A or B?

    A:
    Pickford (Dubravka)
Gabriel - TARKOWSKI - Matheus Nunes - Hall - (Alderete)
Saka - CHERKI - Gordon - Rogers (Devenny)
    Haaland - BOWEN - Ekitike

    B:
    Pickford (Dubravka)
Gabriel - TIMBER - Matheus Nunes - Hall (Alderete)
Saka - FODEN - Gordon - Rogers (Devenny)
    Haaland - GUIU - Ekitike

    Thanks for you opinions.

I think on the WC you need to look at saving transfers so I would get Palmer.

Saka is placeholder for Palmer, when his minutes will be secured.

It's a wildcard to sort the defence. Which is where most of the points are. I won't talk you out of it.

      Keepers
      Whole defence
      Thiago

Would all go for me. Could get Rogers in too.

Feel like the wildcard gets you on the front foot rather than chasing moves.

What do you think about playing WC already? I think that saving WC is not as important as in previous seasons since you can now save up to 5 transfers?

    1. Ajax Hamsterdam
      • 12 Years
      6 months, 17 days ago

there will always be issues that require transfers imo. as tempting as it is i think it's too risky you should just try to fix your team.

    2. MJF
      6 months, 17 days ago

From experience, every time I play the second WC early I regret it later. Five FTs in theory makes a difference but I've never saved more than 2 myself, so I cannot see myself managing it.

          • 10 Years
          6 months, 17 days ago

I can see the appeal and am leaning towards doing the same thing...lots of great mids who are keeping pace with the City mids, but outside of Arsenal, it's not even close in the defender position.

That said, City mids are highly unpredictable. Cherki is on a bit of a rampage atm and seems to be quite important to their play, but Foden has done really well the season so far overall and underlying stats are still good. Also, as someone who doesn't follow City very much, it seems to me like Foden's place in the squad is much more secure. Cherki is quite appealing atm as a Foden owner, though it would very much be a sideways transfer.

This is really tough! I wish we could have 4 players from the same team. Are you on WC too?

            1. C0YS
              • 10 Years
              6 months, 17 days ago

Not on WC here, which makes it an easier decision to stick with Foden for now (and, more inconveniently, O'Reilly).

Might make more sense to go with the in-form player on WC though

What do you thik of this WC:

    Vicario
    Gabriel, Matheus N., Hall,

    Watkins, Haaland, DCL

    Dubravka, Keane, Gudmundsson, Stach

Avoid Vicario. Otherwise looks pretty good.

Only other thing that stands out there is lack of Liv attack, especially Ekitike. I'd probably have him instead of one of Watkins/DCL

Intriguing, but I think Pep likes most when his own plan comes together. An Arsenal loss won’t have Pep’s hand in it and therefore won’t taste as sweet.

    A. Thiago > DCL
    B. Thiago > Bowen
    C. Roll

Sell price for Thiago is 6.6m

      I did A for a -4 but B is also intriguing

B looks like a great punt, especially if your team is in a decent place and you expect to easily be able move to DCL (or anyone else) a couple GWs later if it doesn't work out.

...A if you have less space for making punty transfers with a higher risk of failure

Have already used 1 of 3 FT's to do Virgil to Gabriel.

O'Reilly to Thiaw worth another or just roll 2 to next GW?

    Raya
    Gabriel O'Reilly Tarkowski
    Saka Cunha Foden Anderson
    Haaland Ekitike Thiago

    Dubravka; Gudmundsson, Le Fee, Andersen

I’d just get rid. No attacking points for 6 weeks and not looking like getting any, back to back I pointers, 2 baps all season and only 1 DC. Not worth the money

Is anyone not going for Gabriel this week? I'm keen on Foden to Gordon and don't mind my defence, but feel like I might be the only person without Gab if I make that move

    Verb
    Virgil Collins Dorgu
    Saka Foden Cunha Wilson
    Haaland Ekitike Thiago

Not much between them...Wilson slightly ahead on points and underlying stats, Stach much cheaper. Wilson higher update and Stach more reliable - Stach with returns from 9 games, Wilson from 8.

Downgrade Rice to someone sub 5.7 to fund Senesi > Gabriel -4?

Doesn’t seem worth -4 but need to get it done before more rises make it awkward. Not sure who to get beyond just going for Garner.

I could’ve went Ekitike > Bowen but price changes have me 0.1 short of that now.

I want Gabriel. Currently have Timber, Saka and Rice.
    Best move?
    A) Timber, Woltemade to Gabriel, Thiago
    B) Senesi, Rice to Gabriel, Stach
    C) Lacroix, Rice to Gabriel, Anderson
    D) Senesi, Saka to Gabriel, Rogers
    E) Lacroix, Saka, Woltemade to Gabriel, Rogers, Bowen (-4)

I’m looking at B for -4, and think it’s your best option for free. Bowen is tempting but not worth the -4 I think.

I really wanted Cherki on WC, but Doku back and Semenyo coming, will surely affect his game time

I agree but could possibly say same about foden. And think alot of options in thst 6.5-7 if Rotation does become a nightmare
