Scout Picks

The first Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline of 2026/27 is nearing – so it’s time to nail down our Scout Picks for Gameweek 1.

While we still have some press conferences to come (and some unexpected news could alter these selections), the managers of eight of our XI have already faced the media on Thursday.

This is a Free Hit in all but name, with the focus solely on the upcoming Gameweek. Selections made in the Scout Squad are a big factor when it comes to deciding who made the final cut.

As ever, we are limited by certain restrictions:

  • An £83.0m budget for our starting XI
  • An overall squad limit of £100.0m
  • No more than three players per team

GAMEWEEK 1 SCOUT PICKS

GOALKEEPER

Best £4.0m + £4.5m goalkeepers for FPL 2026/27

Bart Verbruggen (£4.5m) is our chosen goalkeeper after he was selected by two of our Scout Squad pundits.

Brighton and Hove Albion meet an Aston Villa side deprived of some key players (especially attackers), thanks to injury and plenty of exits in a summer of upheaval for the club.

Albion played in Europe on Thursday night, which is far from ideal.

However, they were the third-best team in 2025/26 for goals conceded (46), and the fifth-best for expected goals conceded (xGC, 49.13).

It’s also worth mentioning that Brighton kept clean sheets in their two most recent pre-season friendlies against Roma and Bologna, as well as Thursday’s draw with Tromso.

Stupid question and sorry if it’s been asked, but getting Konsa in now before he’s updated as an Arsenal player will give me 4 Arsenal players eventually.

Is it the same rule preseason where the next transfer I make will have to be an Arsenal player out? So could go a few game weeks with 4 of them?

Certainly a good way to discipline yourself and preserve FTs 😉 I'd definitely consider it after GW3 provided he doesn't rise by then.

Exactly what I’ve done. I’m starting with 4, try to get to gameweek 3-4 before transfer out.

Too risky to start with Rogers? Was assuming he would start straight away but doesn't sound guaranteed from Alonsos quote

Looking at the other options yes probably - Wirtz, szob, tzolis/odegaard and upgrade elsewhere

In all my attempts to go template-less, I certainly seem to have enough GW picks in my team (7) lol.

BB, likely early WC, but we'll see:

    Raya | Verbruggen
    Virgil | Maguire | Calafiori | Ajer | Hume
    Bruno | Semenyo | Mbeumo | Tzolis (c) | Le Fee
    Isak | JP | Igor

Think that’s a good a non-Haaland team as you can have with a good bench

Maybe captain Bruno? Non-template already risky enough!!

Team is so good the only reason I'm not going back to the drawing board to make a Haaland-less draft is because we're too close to deadline. I really, really like it.

    3. This looks very good for a non Haaland team
Like the Tzoli(Z) too. I'm not against it at all!

Nice team, needs Gabriel without Haaland imo. Isak to Thiago, Calafiori to 5.0, Virgil to Gabriel. Then you’re sorted.

I had Gabriel up until literally a minute ago when I dropped him and Palmer for Cala + Bruno. But it's an interesting proposition, for sure.

      Califiore, Rodon, Maguire, (Hume, Diop),
Mbuemo, Bruno F, Tzolis, Wirtz, Schade
      Haaland, JP (Walle Egeli)

      1. Great team, probably not a very good BB though

  28. Made few changes in Vuskovic Rogers -> James Szoboszlai, how's it looking?
