REACTION

Transfer deadline day - as it happened: The new FPL arrivals assessed 1

Most of the prices here are pretty much as expected.

There’s the…

  • Defender from the newly promoted team at £4.0m (Norton-Cuffy)
  • The £4.5m full-backs – some of them back-ups – with modest attacking threat/little DefCon potential (Maitland-Niles, Bard, Chilwell)
  • The £4.5m centre-halves who’ve also arrived with unimpressive DefCon stats (Harwood-Bellis, Affengruber, Ahanor)
  • The £5.0m central midfielders with little attacking threat who might provide a decent number of DefCons, but who first have to establish themselves as regulars in packed engine rooms and are probably destined to be Fantasy footnotes (Timber, Angel, Larsson, Mouzakitis)
  • The £5.5m midfielder whose DefCon stats elevate him above the £5.0m mob (Andres)
  • The £5.5m wingers from lower-to-mid-table clubs, who arrive boasting good goal/assist stats in inferior leagues and/or glowing reputations (Osorio, Fofana, Thomas), but who have it all to do to come close to the likes of Mamadou Sangare (£5.7m)
  • The £4.5m-£5.0m back-up forwards (Angulo, Vaz, Ansah), who we’ll all retain faint hopes of benefitting from an injury crisis and increased game-time

Flemming‘s price of £5.5m is about what we expected, too, as a forward for a newly promoted side. Still, 11 Premier League goals for a Burnley side that was probably worse than (and not as attacking as) Gary O’Neil’s Ipswich Town means the Dutch forward is one to monitor. Penalty-taking duties would be the icing on the cake.

Fernandez-Pardo, alas, is a £6.0m forward. There was hope that FPL would look at his past left-wing duties and classify him as a midfielder, but it’s not often these days that we witness the shambles that led to John Lundstram being categorised as a defender in the past. We’re assuming he’ll lead the line for Newcastle, ahead of Yoane Wissa (£6.1m) in the ’10’, with the Magpies already well stocked for left-wingers.

Villa’s hot prospect Mbaye comes in at £6.0m, which again, is pretty much as predicted. As he’s someone with no Premier League experience, and still raw at 18, few Fantasy managers will be gambling on the winger from the outset, with so many more proven assets available at similar prices.

Bahoya is one of the most intriguing ones. A lightning-quick left winger who was linked with Arsenal in December (however true that was), he’s likely cheap because he’s often failed to translate promising displays into attacking returns. There were just three goals and four assists in 2025/26, although 12 of his 27 run-outs did come off the bench. If Daniel Farke can refine that talent, then he’ll be a name to monitor. Brenden Aaronson (£5.5m) and Noah Okafor (£5.9m) stand in the way for now, though.

There’s no such thing as “coverage” If Haaland hauls, which is highly likely given his record at home against promoted teams, no one is going to match it. Considering quite a lot of people are contemplating using the TC chip, non Haaland teams could take quite a beating.

Won't Ayari displace him when he is back? Which could be as early as this weekend. And then Hinshelwood too beyond that timeframe, who probably owns that position when fit.

      1. Boberella
        1 month, 18 days ago

Didn’t think about Ayari, good point. Hinshelwood I thought was 4-5 wks away, but haven’t seen a solid update on him yet.

        1. Cantonesque
          1 month, 18 days ago

I did see people on here saying Yalcouye was very good when he got his chance with those two out. But a playing 4.5m number 10 with goal threat is such a dream proposition that it's maybe too easy to let yourself believe in something you want to be true. Like people trying to convince themselves Konsa is a starter now.

Free hitters could look at him if they need the funds, wild carders who've bench boosted already could stick him permabench and see if he establishes himself, but seems more watchlist for everyone else? But maybe I am just wrong about when Ayari will be ready to start again, I couldn't find a lot of news on that.

          1. Boberella
            1 month, 18 days ago

The other factor is for teams where your 8th attacker will be benched most weeks, he’s worth a pop at 4.5m for now to maybe play against Leeds and then see what happens with him. Can always look to change it later on.

    So Wissa has competition?

    1. Cantonesque
      1 month, 18 days ago

Only from Ramsay and Willock, it sounds like, so he should be one of the first names on the teamsheet. As a prospective owner, would have preferred him to stay a 9 - getting him in now seems like pre-booking a transfer to MFP later, if what they say about the kid is true.

What happened to Enzo Le Fee, he was in lots of gw1 teams and now he is completely forgotten?

    1. Cantonesque
      1 month, 18 days ago

You can't go blanking twice when two dozen other midfielders at or below (or way below) your price are racking up returns. Or not at this stage of the season, before you've built up some trust.

would you do a -4 to get a starting GK instead of Sanchez?

    1. Ausman
      1 month, 18 days ago

This is why you always have a starting GK on the bench. Do the math, take a -4 and keeper blanks, you don’t break even, keeper scores 6, you are +2
      Is that really worth it?

  15. The Tonberry
    1 month, 18 days ago

Think I'll WC in GW4. Too many issues with the current team (double Utd defence, Semenyo & Wirtz not looking like the best options for their clubs in those positions, Le Fee, Tzolis) and a reset is needed.

    Lammens
    Maguire Calafiori White
    Semenyo Mbeumo Wirtz Tzolis
    Haaland Pedro DCL

Kinsky Muharemovic Le Fee Van Ewijk

Should I just roll my transfer and go into the WC with 3FT or should I do Mbeumo to Cherki as a one week punt?

Leaning towards holding as I'm not sure there's value in those one week punts before a WC anymore now that we can roll transfers after a WC. Plus Enzo and Ndiaye signing makes any City attacker more of a minutes risk.

And knowing my luck Mbeumo would probably outscore Cherki that week anyway.

Prefer 1 as I'm not as sold on Szobo as everyone else seems to be. I'm currently on close to 1 but with Foden and Gross instead of Cherki and Yalcouye. Gross/Gomez/Yalcouye is a fun sliding Brighton scale of price vs point potential that I might yet dial down as someone does have to be benched and defence could use extra funds (e.g. payable 2nd keeper, Dedic up to Hall etc.)

Torn this week on using 2FT or FH3. Plans below

    Option 1 - FT Method:

GW3: Bruno & Isak to Haaland & Grob

    GW4 - Mbeumo to Rogers

    GW5 - Roll RFT

    Option 2 - FH3

    GW3: FH

GW4: Bruno & Gab to Palmer & Konsa (subject to Konsa status and price)

    GW5: Isak to Haaland

The short of it is FH worth it to be able to attack Isak vs both IPS & FUL fixtures, as well as back in Palmer vs HUL over Haaland vs United.

Lammens, Maguire, Calafiori, N.Williams, B.Fernandes, Palmer, Szoboszlai, Tzolis, Wirtz, Isak, João Pedro, Kinsky, Van Hecke, Alderete, Brobbey

Because I had 0 city (now have Cherki/Gvardiol) and I could get Palmer as well to set up the team for GW4.

    A. Saka and Verbruggen
    B. MGW and Raya

    I’m on wildcard

B should score more over the season

Would you FH this week if you already owned NOR, Cherki and Semenyo?
Not sure if there will be a need to save the FH incase of postponement

It tricky. Haaland is the main key here. If you want to bet against him, I wouldn't FH.

Ive already bet against him so kinda feels wrong to now FH just for him, although I would get Liverpool attackers too

Have you tried building a FH draft? I dont think you will be able to fit all anyway.

I did a FH and am betting against Haaland by filling my team with all other premiums

          My FH team:

          Kelleher
Kayode – Gvardiol – De Cuyper
          Foden – Cherki – Bruno – Saka – MGW
          Thiago – Isak

Quite a risk, especially considering that I have 200 pts so far and stand to lose a lot, but I like to play it my way.

Probably Foden, second option Cherki. Thinking about Bruno too, many routes to points.

With 200 points on the board already, you're doing something right.

In that case, if I were you, I would not FH
