In a brilliant watch for the neutral, Arsenal came from behind to beat Chelsea on Sunday, with Martin Odegaard (£6.6m) and Kai Havertz (£7.5m) on the scoresheet.

Here are our Scout Notes from the match.

ODEGAARD “GREAT”

In a superb display, Odegaard put Arsenal ahead early in the second-half.

The Norwegian has now scored three goals in four appearances in all competitions this season, having netted only once in 36 matches in 2025/26.

A major factor in this improvement has been his willingness to break into the box whenever possible.

In fact, in the first three Gameweeks, he’s racked up 13 penalty box touches (5.29 per 90). That’s just three fewer than Bukayo Saka (£9.5m).

For context, he averaged only 2.44 penalty box touches per 90 in the Premier League last season.

“First of all, he feels fit and confidence-wise, it’s the highest I’ve seen him. He has a point to prove from last season as well, from missing so much football. Kai [Havertz] is the same; Bukayo [Saka] is the same. We missed so many attacking players last season for long, long periods – I’m not sure how many games they played together last season, but probably not many.

“When you start to feel the chemistry they have between them and what they can produce, it’s great. But for me, he gets to that point because he’s enjoying his football. You have to enjoy what you do, to play with real intent, and that’s what I saw today. He was running forward; he took shots, created so many situations for his teammates – he was great.” – Mikel Arteta on Martin Odegaard

ARTETA ON HAVERTZ AND TZOLIS

Arsenal’s other attackers stepped up, too.

Havertz netted the equaliser by beating Emiliano Martinez (£5.0m) at the near post, before Christos Tzolis (£6.5m) supplied the assist for Odegaard’s strike, which was brilliantly dummied by the German.

Havertz led the line for the third straight match here and put in an excellent shift, with three shots and three chances created.

“He looks happy. He looks settled, happy, and some great things have happened in his personal life as well. He feels fit, he’s training every day and has this routine right now. He’s scoring goals, but not only that – he’s also doing amazing work for the team.” – Mikel Arteta on Kai Havertz

Tzolis meanwhile kept his place on the left wing ahead of Eberechi Eze (£6.4m). And after a slow-ish start, he grew into the game.

“He was unreal again. He has been showing that, the level of threat, the work rate and his decision making are phenomenal to watch.” – Mikel Arteta on Christos Tzolis

Bukayo Saka (£9.5m) was also a constant threat and unlucky not to score.

It’s also important to mention that Riccardo Calafiori (£5.7m) had a goal disallowed, with Ezri Konsa (£4.4m) in an offside position. He was later subbed off in the 66th minute.

KONSA IN, MOSQUERA OUT

Konsa made his full debut for Arsenal on Sunday, as he replaced Cristhian Mosquera (£5.5m).

Mikel Arteta had previously insisted that Mosquera’s withdrawal at Villa Park in Gameweek 2 “was more a precaution than anything else”. However, he failed to even make the matchday squad here.

“He had a muscular issue, and we think it’s not too much. But we need to wait and see the next few days for how it evolves.” – Mikel Arteta on Cristhian Mosquera

In his absence, Konsa had a really solid game and banked more defensive contributions (DefCon) than any other Arsenal player.

ROGERS ON TARGET

Overall, Xabi Alonso will probably be pretty pleased with Chelsea’s performance.

While Martinez should have done better for Havertz’s equaliser, the away side carried a threat in north London, despite their low expected goals (xG).

Morgan Rogers (£7.6m) opened the scoring with a first-time volley after just two minutes. He later curled an effort narrowly wide.

The former Aston Villa man has now produced an attacking return in each of Chelsea’s first three Premier League matches.

There were blanks – and bookings – for Cole Palmer (£9.6m) and Joao Pedro (£7.7m), although Pedro Neto (£6.5m) did hit the post from the latter’s superb pass.

A late Estevao (£6.4m) strike was brilliantly saved, too.

“It was never going to be a game to create 12 opportunities. They are hard to beat, they are hard to create chances [against], but we had three, four chances to score more than one goal. This is a process. It’s still early days for us.

“We want to start having clean sheets, they will come. The players are committed to working hard, to knowing that we’re on the way to compete in each game. Not happy that we couldn’t get anything but we need to keep calm and carry on.” – Xabi Alonso

As for Arsenal, they’ve conceded only 0.89 expected goals (xG) across the first three Gameweeks, the lowest of any team. They’ve also faced the fewest shots, with 24.

WHY COLWILL WAS BENCHED, CAICEDO LATEST

Chelsea’s starting XI showed two changes from the win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

Reece James (£5.4m) replaced Malo Gusto (£5.0m) in the middle of the park, while Josh Acheampong (£4.5m) was picked over Levi Colwill (£4.9m) in the back three.

Alonso later said that Colwill was only fit enough for the bench, as he has had “little things during the week”.

Elsewhere, Moises Caicedo (£5.4m) missed out, having come off injured in Gameweek 2.

“It is not long-term but it’s about assessing the risk. Probably, last week, we took him too early and I don’t want to make the same mistake again.” – Xabi Alonso on Moises Caicedo

Wesley Fofana (£5.0m) played in Colwill’s position on the left of the back three and racked up 17 DefCons.

Of course it's possible (and I hope we win well!). But football is such a confidence sport and Hull are brimming full of it - so let's see.

The tide will turn at some point though, they won't go through the whole season without conceding!

Option B to either Rog or Palm. Youll need that Bruno cash anyway going forward. Chelsea will wipe the floor with Hull.

I’m feeling similar about catching up and also feel the temptation to wildcard but I still think we might get more value from holding it for now, maybe using it over the international break.

I don’t think there would be wholesale changes for us. My squad is similar to yours.

Like the midfield and attack. I don’t know how long Mitoma is out so I’d think twice about De Cuyper but he’s a good option right now. Livramento back on the bench would make me hesitate on Dedic too.

Thank you! From what I've been reading, doesn't sound like Livra will slot straight back in. I was struggling between Konsa and Dedic so perhaps Konsa is the better option

I'd have Konsa on a WC, cheap way into best defence in league. I'd be a little worried having to play Cherki and Gross every week, Cherki is surely going to see lots of rotation.

Ah yes, the prestigious FIFA Best awards, which despite only running for about a decade, already has a history of confusing and inconsistent voting criteria, accusations of being a popularity contest, ignoring club performances, and missing / uncounting votes.

Show me someone who would put Martinez over Courtois, Alisson, Neuer, Donnarumma (just to name a few) in the past 5 years or so and I'll show you a liar.

        2. vova
          1 month, 16 days ago

Our defence will get better as the season goes on and Martinez should play a key part in it. For now I would avoid though.

Palmer vs Rogers... I have Palmer myself rn but might get both on a WC.
Palmer on pens and thus can be super explosive (for 2 mil more, I think he is worth the price. Rogers should be involved plenty as well but out of the front three he is also the one that will be subbed first IMO.

Absolutely destroyed my team on wildcard last week. A miserable 39 points. One of the main losses was Odegaard out, who looks like he could be a great pick this season. Thoughts on these transfers?

De Cuyper, Cherki, Sangare out Konsa, Szoboszlai, Odegaard in.

    Requires a 4pt hit.

Am I just chasing last week's points (again)?

I am being silly probably. But Cherki minutes worry me.

    2. Utopsis
      1 month, 16 days ago

      Yes.

Cherki is not all of a sudden a priority sell, he was very unlucky not to return and City's performance went downhill after he was subbed.

De Cuyper has Coventry away who are yet to score a goal, absolutely not a priority sell.

Sangare would just be another overreaction sell.

Honestly because you just WC'd, I would just roll. You got those players for a reason, give them a few weeks. Players can't return every single week so you will end up selling someone who's due.

      Keep the faith!

      1. GoonerSteve
        1 month, 16 days ago

Good advice, thankyou. I had Odegaard and Konsa in my wildcard team till just before the deadline, in a 3-5-2, then switched to De Cuyper and Wissa and a 3-4-3. Odegaard is the change I regret the most, but no easy way to get him in this week. And I agree about Cherki.

You just need to wait for the game to update. If you check the status tab on the website it will change from 'Provisional' to 'Completed' when it has updated...

Very annoying with price rises forcing early transfer decisions, but seeing as Tsoliz set to drop today:

    Tzolis -> Rogers -4pts

    Yay or nay ?

Anyone else have trouble with auto subs? Status says GW scores are updated but O’Reilly still in the XI for me?

It says 'Confirmed' but it does also state that autosubs and Leagues are being updated, so it's just a waiting game for now...

        Autosubs have autosubbed now

is it crazy to consider getting rid of Cherki after adding him in last week... just with a blank, 65 mins and now looking like hes competing directly with Foden - not sure i love the transfer anymore

Is Bruno to Palmer worth a -4 if I already own Rogers and Joao Pedro?

      Absolutely not

    1) Foden to Palmer or Rodgers?? Is Palmer worth the 2m extra?

    2) would you do Cherki to Gakpo for free or save 2nd transfer

    1. The Knights Template
      1 month, 16 days ago

      Palmer pens premium. Yes.

      Gakpo.

Do i take the Tzolis price drop or sell him for -4?

    1. The Knights Template
      1 month, 16 days ago

I’m absolutely keeping him. He will score points, in the best team, and cheap as chips. Let others panic and lollygag. You’ll make money and lose money over the course of the season. And playing Sunderland this GW!

    1. Free hit to keep Bruno/Mbeumo for the Fulham game, get Isak for the Fulham game, and to give a chance of keeping wildcard beyond GW6

    2. Wildcard now, to benefit from the price changes and keep the free hit in the bag.

To get Rogers (only other Chelsea is JP), would you do:

    A) Mbeumo > Rogers
    B) Cherki > Rogers
    C) Roll and have only JP

Best GK combo on WC? Was thinking Verb + Kinsky. Not going Raya as want 3 Arsenal outfielders.

Seriously considering a wc to get Haaland in before the Sunderland game. Got 3.6m in the bank with a transfer saved so I could swap Fernandes to Rogers/Saka next gw and then pivot Isak to Haaland. Thoughts?

    Kinsky

    De Cuyper
    Konsa
    Calafiori

    Palmer (C)
    Anderson
    Bruno Fernandes
    Tzolis

    DCL
    J Pedro
    Iak

Bench: Verbruggen, N Williams, Maguire, Ndiaye

Best start ever. I’d love Palmer, would have to lose JP and prob DCL(they’ve always trolled me in the past) & prob Sangare. I put konsa in for shaw already.
    0.1 itb no ft.

    Verb
    Cala, De Kuyper, Muharemovic
    Bruno, Rodgers, Tzolis, Szob
    Haaland, JP, DCL

    Kinsky Sangare, Konsa, Diop

    So next 3 trsfers
    -JP to 4.5
    Plus either
    -DCL to 5m or
    -Muharemovic to 4m
    And
-Sangare to Palmer to get there
Solid plan or much ado about nothing…?
