In ‘Goals Imminent’, we look at the underlying statistics to predict which players are about to score or assist in Gameweek 8.

That way, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers can be proactive, not reactive, with their transfers.

Marc and Joe have a regular Fantasy Football Scout podcast that discusses these underachievers, using the latter’s popular data table.

Naturally, we’ll try to distinguish between poor finishers and those who have just been unfortunate.

GOALS IMMINENT

Johan Manzambi (£6.0m), plus Brighton and Hove Albion pair Diego Gomez (£5.0m) and Yasin Ayari (£5.4m) are the successes from last week’s article.

Ordered by xG delta, table number one shows players who’ve accumulated at least 10 shots over the latest four Gameweeks, but scored no more than one goal.

    GW 8 WC options:
Assuming I’ll likely go with: 2x Ars D, Saka, Rogers, Isak etc….
Who would you pick from the below options in each position?

GK: Kinsky/ Dubra OR Verbruggen / Steele
    Def: Hall OR De Cuyper
Mid: 1) Gross OR Tavernier OR Manzambi 2) Mbeumo OR Barcola

Brighton are tricky as there are so many possible picks - Vuskovic is more than fine and might be better than De Cuyper over the next period. Hinshelwood might bang in some goals. Kostoulas could be a bargain playing 9 for the best attack in the league. Gomez isn't by any stretch a bad pick.

The downfall of United is colossal, actually amusing to watch them like this, seeing the players run around like lost puppies pretending to put a shift in. Carrick is a div aswell, does not know what he is doing. Might aswell have Darren Fletcher at the helm that’s how average he is.

    1. Jafooli
      17 hours, 40 mins ago

      *one of Darren Fletcher's kids

The incestuous nature of the club doesn't help - Carrick, Fletcher, Evens etc all getting jobs for the boys...

      1. Count of Monte Hristo
        17 hours, 38 mins ago

Even Jonathan Woody Woodgate is in there because he and Carrick have the Boro connection. FOOTBALL FRIENDS!

The club are so amateur now and a million miles of where they want to be. 3 Fletcher’s at the club and no Keane’s says it all.

MC can appeal in the high court so unlikely they go down this season.

Also EPL has refused legal evidence that was accepted in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The media has not reported this important detail.

      1. The FPL Units
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

This appears to refer to Manchester City’s Premier League case and its earlier appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but it conflates two separate proceedings.

CAS ruled in 2020 on UEFA’s case against City. It overturned UEFA’s two-year European competition ban, finding that most of the alleged breaches were either not established or time-barred; it did not decide the Premier League’s later charges. The Premier League case was heard separately by an independent commission under the league’s own rules.

There are reports that City’s current appeal may challenge evidence or findings in that Premier League case. That is different from saying the Premier League refused to accept evidence that CAS had accepted.

        Some fact checking.

        1. The Mandalorian
          16 hours, 3 mins ago

The media's reporting on the time bar is incorrect. A panel of 5 ex-judges reviewed the evidence. The level of evidence is very detailed including multiple high level witnesses.
It would form a huge conspiracy to defraud the EPL rules.

The Premier League would have to prove that the Abu Dhabi government are liars. They have not conducted any investigation to prove this point.

          1. The FPL Units
            • Fantasy Football Scout Member
            15 hours, 53 mins ago

Manchester City’s case was heard by an independent commission, but the claim that it consisted of five ex-judges isn’t supported by reports. The commission heard extensive evidence and reportedly found that some City witnesses gave false evidence on key points—findings City disputes and is appealing. The Premier League investigated the alleged rule breaches; it did not need to prove that the Abu Dhabi government as a whole lied or conspired. And CAS’s time-bar decision concerned UEFA’s separate case, so it does not automatically apply to the Premier League’s proceedings.
