An injury to Bukayo Saka (£9.6m) looks set to cause more disruption in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) as we approach Gameweek 8.

The winger lasted just 10 minutes of Arsenal’s entertaining 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich on Wednesday, with a quad injury putting paid to his evening. It remains to be seen how long he’ll be out for.

Saka’s injury follows news that Antoine Semenyo (£8.3m) is out for two months, while Dominik Szoboszlai (£6.8m) was reinjured last weekend. It’s been a bit of a tumultuous week for Fantasy midfielders.

Here we go, then, with our FPL notes from the Allianz Arena. The stats and graphics in this article come from our UCL Match Centre.

SELECTION/ROTATION

TeamNo. of starting XI changes made from GW7Players who kept their places (mins played)Mins for other players
Arsenal2Raya (90), Konsa (90), Gabriel (90), Calafiori (90), Rice (90), Odegaard (85), Guimaraes (69), Havertz (68), Saka (10)Timber (90), Madueke (90), Eze (80), Gyokeres (22), Lewis-Skelly (21), Merino (5)

“Against Lille, he didn’t start the game. Then he started the game at the weekend, and [the injury] was very early in the game. I don’t know. The level of intensity these games require is something incredible.

“The strength, the quality, the attention, the level that you need, is unbelievable, it’s the highest level, and those things happen, unfortunately.

“It doesn’t look good at all, but we have to wait and see.” – Mikel Arteta, in his post-match presser, on whether Bukayo Saka’s injury is a result on the intense schedule

“They are a bit concerned. A player that has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news but we’ll have to wait and see.” – Mikel Arteta on Bukayo Saka, to TNT Sports

  • Noni Madueke (£6.2m) looks set to be a beneficiary in the event of Saka’s absence. Starting on the left here, he switched flanks when Saka exited and Eberechi Eze (£6.2m) came on.
  • And, assuming Saka is out for a while and Viktor Gyokeres (£7.0m) continues to play second fiddle up top, could Martin Odegaard (£6.8m) be the one who inherits penalty-taking duties? He’s taken them in the past, but then so has Kai Havertz (£7.5m). Odegaard has already taken over other dead-ball duties from Saka; the Norwegian was on corners from the right against Bayern.
  • Odegaard was impressive in Munich, supplying a superb assist for Eze and registering a team-best three chances created:
  • Odegaard and Declan Rice‘s (£7.3m) corners did cause problems. Bruno Guimaraes (£6.7m) had two excellent chances from set plays, Havertz another, while Riccardo Calafiori (£6.0m) couldn’t turn in a deflected delivery at, and almost on, the back post.
  • Calafiori actually had more shots than any other Gunner (four), three of which were from set pieces:
  • Eze really impressed, although the problem with him and Madueke – especially when it comes to FPL appeal – is their inconsistency. One fine display has often been followed up by a sub-par showing and an early withdrawal. Contrast that with Odegaard and Rice, who have been continually great all term. Much may depend on the productivity of Madueke and Eze in the coming weeks, should Saka be ruled out.
  • Rice lashed in Arsenal’s equaliser to make it 2-2, having been teed up nicely by Gyokeres. The Swede actually did quite well here, and with Havertz again off the boil, you wonder if he’ll get a chance in the Premier League soon.
  • Arteta barely rotated for this clash, with Madueke for Eze and Jurrien Timber (£6.5m) for Ben White (£5.4m) being his only changes. This was the middle fixture in a Sunday-Wednesday-Saturday turnaround, so could the Arsenal boss make changes at home to Everton this weekend? Calafiori, for instance, only once started all three games in a Sun-Wed-Sat turnaround last season – and one of those run-outs ended after 45 minutes. The good thing is that an EFL Cup tie against Fleetwood Town awaits after the Toffees, so Arteta can rotate to his heart’s content in that.

Is anyone benching Konsa or Calafiori?

Particularly worried about Calafiori. Not sure he can do three 90 minutes in 6 days.

      Playing them both.

Hincapie is injured so unless Arteta shoehorns Lewis-Skelley to LB, there aren't really any alternatives to Calafiori.

Imagine Calafiori will be subbed off around the 60-65 minute mark and given a breather for the midweek League Cup game afterwards.

Arteta's just lost Saka by playing him 3 times in a week. Will he make the same mistake again?

Predicted line ups will be crucial tomorrow.

Best 3 Brighton assets to own from GW10 onwards?

Already have Gross and De Cuyper who will both stay in my team long term (unless De Cuyper actually becomes a minutes risk).

Then there's options of Verbruggen, Vuskovic, Gomez, Hinshelwood, and Kostoulas. Don't like my keeper options (Leno/Kinsky) but think I'll be better off going with 3 outfield players.

Think it's between Hinshelwood and Vuskovic but I think I'd prefer to double up on Brighton's attack rather than their defence.

    1. Punned It
      12 hours, 36 mins ago

I'm on Kostoulas, but strongly considering a reshuffle in a few weeks, got Vuskovic penciled in, but it makes me quite unsure about the third forward spot, I think it'll have to be Barry if so, which doesn't sit completely right.

      1. The Tonberry
        12 hours, 29 mins ago

I've got Barry in my team currently and looking to move to Jackson next week.

I'm not sure I trust Kostoulas's minutes with Rutter and European football hovering which is what puts me off him a little

        1. Punned It
          12 hours, 24 mins ago

Yeah, I agree to the latter, but decided to roll with it till it actually happens. Jackson's a fair shout, bit top pricey for the reshuffle I had in mind, so need to tinker a bit more.

Who plays at LB if not Gvardiol? Find it a bit unlikely that they will drop someone with little match fitness into Villa away. Gvardiol has had some rest the last few weeks so playing after playing mid week shouldn't be an issue for him

    1. The Tonberry
      12 hours, 24 mins ago

Nico if fit, and they still have Ait Nouri on their books as well.

They could also probably shoehorn Guehi there at a push.

Personally I think any City outfielder who isn't Haaland is a gamble to pick

    2. FC Hakkebøf
      12 hours, 20 mins ago

I would not pick any defenders. Tempted to buy Foden or Cherki though (who are also rotation risks). So my logic is flawed 🙂

      1. ColeyHoley
        9 hours, 25 mins ago

Not really flawed. DEFs rely on starts and clean sheets. Foden or Cherki can do damage from the bench.

I'm not sure I like any of them tbh.

Barnes is okay to hold for a couple more games. The City mids feel like a lottery and this week probably isn't the best entry point for them. MGW only really has the Ipswich game then the fixtures get tougher.

If you can put a decent team out and bench Saka, then there will be better options in midfield for GW9 to go for than there are this week.

I've got Barry and will be looking to sell him next week. He only really has the GW10 game against Coventry as a good fixture. He's probably not worth bringing in - DCL, Jackson, Isak, and Evanilson all look like better options than Barry

Thanks all. The main reason I was looking at Barry was extra saving. If I got Calvert-Lewin I'd be 0.1m short of the 5m defenders. Slim pickings below so I thought have Barry as decent sub a better. Calvert-Lewin would be ideal though. Cheers.

Like many I have the Saka issue. Debating doing two transfers to get in raya for Leno & then either mbuemo or schade for Saka - which do you prefer? Team would be:

    Raya
    Munoz / Calafiori / konsa
    Gibbs-white / rogers/ Barnes / king / XXXX
    Haaland / Pedro

    Kinsky / gvardiol / Davis / Barry

I like Mbeumo a lot but despite his recent returns I really struggle to trust UTD at the moment. Id opt for Schade I think, although there are a few that appeal around that price point.

    Hi Guys!

    1. Do you think it is fine keeping Gvardiol?
    2. Would you move Saka to Palmer or Tav? Else? Honestly, I already have Rogers and JPedro so tempted to go Tav over Palmer.

Alternatively Manzambi, but I could just get him next week by selling King.

Tavernier could eventually lose penalties to Kluivert but still a good shout.

Yeah, that's a downside, tho the fixtures are looking nice with United at home now, then I could rotate him with DCL, and maybe Manzambi (if I move King to him next week).

    A) Gross or Tavernier?
