After comments earlier on plan to get auba in. Leaning to taking a -4 hit to go from Firmino, Eriksen, jota -> auba, bilva, Fraser then WC Around GW6.

Obviously very hard to make predictions for next GW (e.g. what ya gonn a do if Firmino nets 15 points on Monday / Eriksen goes mad vs Fulham etc) but like getting a Auba in for their dreamy run.

I have Bilva and he seems a stronger pick now with KDB news. Waiting on Pep's comments for more guidance.

Jota to Fraser seems very sideways and knee-jerk after one gameweek, but guess it's to save a mil so could be good in theory.

How do you think Manchester City will line up this weekend? Would a 352 look something like this?

    Emerson
    Stones Otamendi Laporte
    Walker Fernandinho Bernardo Mahrez Mendy
    Sterling Aguero

He may actually enjoy the attacking bits, but winning those tackles and trying to run back and recover the balls, I doubt.
Although city rarely lose the ball. Might work.

Would still attack from the right with Walker, more about squeezing them in a tactical formation. Silva could ofc start instead of him

David Silva would be a not too surprising starter. Plenty of training under his belt now, would throw a spanner in the works to Hudds planning. Breaking down 10 men behind the ball Hudds will be more difficult than an Arsenal trying to go toe to toe with them. They need the magician.

With KdB out permanently, I'd imagine that City will move towards a clearer 4-2-3-1 as only Fernandinho and Gündogan are right footed, while Delph, Mahrez, Bernardo and Silva are all left footed. Guardiola will still change things around game to game.

The lineup should be the same as last week. Stones might move out for Otamendi, but you would think the best ball playing defenders should play.

Pep has said he would revert to this formation against teams that sit deep defensively. If they are hard to break down he would prefer the more attacking structure

Because it is more attacking compared to a 433, the third centreback allows fullbacks to play as wingbacks. Also all centrebacks can play long passes in the pockets to whoever plays as attacking mids. Pep had been talking about this formation from the start of last season, and is there a better fixture to practise than Huddersfield at home?

Second time in a day we are agreeing over something.

He didn't have KDB or Silva in the last two games, he didn't play 352 in either of them, why will he start now against arguably a weak side at home?

    15. Runaway

      Ederson
      Walker Stones Laporte
      Sterling Gundogan Fernandinho Bilva Mendy
      Aguero Jesus

*Sterling a bit more forward than Mendy (with less defensive responsibilities) by sliding Walker to RB most of the time. If the game stuck, same can be done with Mendy (or substituted Sane) by sliding Laporte to LB and by pulling Fernandinho litile bit back somewhere between DC-DM.
*Mahrez may replace either of Gundogan or Jesus (then Sterling to FWD and Mahrez to advanced RWB role).

I think he might actually go same again to be honest. I would expect Jesus to get more minutes than he has done so far. Might be to early for him to start but he could well get half an hour in place of or alongside Sergio.

Havent seen Foden mentioned much. I think he might get some gametime, especially after impressing in Community Shield. He's more of a CM than Mahrez and there was talk that City were willing to let Gundogan move on this transfer window.

Don't see why they'd play with 3 centre backs, think it's more likely to be something like:

      Ederson
      Walker Stones Laporte Mendy
      Bernardo Gundogan
      Mahrez D.Silva Sterling
      Aguero

      Ederson
      Walker Stones Laporte Mendy
      Ferna
      Gundo BSilva
      Sane Sterling
      Aguero

Mahrez was poor in first game. Sane will the chance to reestablish himself on the left.

    Mendy v Aguero captaincy

I am going Mendy as captain, heres why.

Aguero is 1.45 to score anytime in the game
Man City are 1.5 to keep a clean sheet

A goal for Aguero and a clean sheet for Mendy gives the same points.
There is almost the same probability that this will happen.

Then there is a chance that Aguero will get 2 goals, odds are around 3.5 for this to happen. And odds for Mendy to get a cleanie and an assist or a goal, again around the same.

Aguero could of course get a hatty, unlikely with odds around 9.00 for that to happen.

So pretty much 50/50. But then add the Jesus factor, add in the fact that Hudderfield held them to 0-0 last year and the big for me is a massive differential if Mendy was to outscore Aguero and Aguero has about 44% to Mendy's 4%.

Of course it might backfire but the possible massive rise in rank if it does is well worth the risk where I fully expect Mendy not to blank.

Seems a good a time to captain a defender against Huddersfield than against any other team as they struggle to score goals. If Aguero starts though then I'd much rather have the captaincy on him, we know he can go goal crazy in any game and at home especially this city team are rampant!

I don't disagree with your comments however:

"add in the fact that Hudderfield held them to 0-0 last year" - This has been factored into the odds of a clean sheet and therefore irrelevant

I think you need to consider bonus points, which I think works in Mendy's favour

      Aguero could get an assist

I don't normally captain defenders and at this stage of the competition I tend to follow the pack to protect against huge rank variations

They also went to Stamford Bridge & held them to a 1-1, the league may have been won but Hudds have shown they can go somewhere and dig in.

It's a tough decision but I think if you had a good GW1 then it's Aguero, if you're already chasing then it's Mendy

Nobody is chasing after 1GW. Even if you're 40 points behind, it's barely 1 point per game to make up over the course of the season.

Start talking about catch up when you're 200 behind in November.

Hi, Its not irrelevant, as by that I meant that a repeat of that would see Aguero blank. It was not a reference to City keeping a cleanie again. I had considered bonus points but thought there were too many ifs and buts already. yes and aguero could get an assist but again trying to keep it a little simpler, Aguero could also miss a pen 😉
I almost NEVER captain a defender but the risk is minimal and the reward is great so worth it. These are the things you need to do if you want to win FPL

No. Betting odds fluctuate based on the spread of money that is being bet - not based on the likelihood of a result. They’re similar but not the same thing.

Correct, but there's probably (in my opinion anyway) more bets being put on Aguero to score than Man City to clean sheet, which would suggest the unbiased chances of Mendy clean sheet vs Aguero goal go further towards Mendy clean sheet.

But ‘Aguero to score’ and ‘Man City clean sheet’ are two different betting markets. So you can’t directly compare them in that way.

Bookies are extremely wrong sometimes though. Like when Chelsea were 17-2 at half time to draw with Spurs when Leicester won the league, or when Portsmouth were 7-1 to finish in the bottom half of League 2 after going into administration and losing half of their squad. Crazy odds.

Those bets won me 400 quid 🙂

Bookies odds are based on probability, yes the odds can change is there are a large amounts of bets placed on something but at this stage 3 days before the game, the odds are based on probability. And yes they are sometimes completely wrong but those bookmakers who are still in business are right more often than not 🙂

Where is Ruth when we need him. Bookie odds are simply public perception and have nothing to do with actual probability. Bookies use the point spread to attract money to balance their books...that's all.

Every page the same type of comment - either people asking about Salah vs Aguero or advocating one of the two (or Mendy for those who want to boast about it if it works).

No one knows if Aguero will start.
HUD is a stronger fixture than cpl.
Salah gets an extra point per goal.
    Both are great choices.
You don't owe it to anyone to try to try to convince them that your choice is the right one.

When does the Captain Sensible article get released so I can link every comment to it RMT style?

It's a fantasy football forum, people are going to talk about popular fantasy football decisions. I don't see why it's seen as a negative.

It's the ill considered comments and sweeping statements that bring nothing new to the conversation.
I would be very happy to read a well considered comparision with pros and cons.

Apparently my 1st comment is being marked for consideration.
The only thing I do agree on is the ill statements. I don't like people stating such n such a player WIll / WONT start.
Someone posts an RMT and Player A wont start. No insider knowledge just a statement pulled out of air.

What the actual problem is posters, mostly those without gravs and few years on the site, being thrown to other threads with their comments locked. The same treatment isn't as applied as much to 'popular' posters if you like. It's diluting the site and it's not a good look.

    Any punters on Hazard

I think many are overlooking the way Sarri employs his team to play, it's actually similar to Peps (in fact Pep was HIGHLY praising Sarri for his football style and relentless attacking)

If Emery lines up a similar midfield surely he's leaving gaps for Hazard Pedro and also wing backs ,

I had a (I think original!) idea for a new chip last night; The Superfan Chip

You may temporarily transfer in up to 5 players, all of whom must be from the same team. You may have up to 8 players in total from any one team. Your team reverts back to how it was at the end of the week.

    Just thought I'd share.

I like it. Half the FPL players would use in on Man United in GW1 🙂

It could be added as part of the freehit - for one week only you could own the whole Liverpool team 🙂

      Ederson (Hamer)
      Walker Mendy Tomkins AWB (Peltier)
      Mane Sterling Bilva Richarlison (Stephens)
      Aguero Firminho (King)

      G2G?

Whenever I read 'Sanchez' I will forever hear it being pronounced in Andy's west country accent.

Sanchez owners - is this make or break for you this week, and if so who is an option for GW3 transfers if he flops? I'm considering Sanchez (c) as fear of Pep makes me nervous about Kun.

Another option is Mane. Pulling hair out already and it's only week 2!

      Don't have him but

He got an assist and Lukaku missed a clear chance from a sanchez pass

In terms of next week Spurs are a different animal so I would wait this week and see what happens

Thanks all. Arsenal do have a tasty run soon. I have Lacazette so fingers crossed he does something to cover not having a midfielder. It's a toss-up between Erik and Hazard as a swap if Aleix Flops.

Hey everyone. As this is the first year I've played properly, there's some things I've never noticed. So, with that in mind....

The masses have jumped on Mane this week as he's scored 2 so his price has gone up. If, say, Ericksen bangs in a hat-trick this week and Mane blanks, are the masses just as likely to swap him for Ericksen and bring Mane's price back down again? Or will he probably not drop again now?

    1. Pep says
      • 8 Years
      5 years, 10 months ago

Mane won't drop but yes people will start jumping on Eriksen. Alli's new owners, KdB owners and whatever premium kid blanks will be the casualties
