The international break has rendered the previous gameweek a faint and bitter memory of what might have been. Luis Suarez gracefully twisted and rolled in the Bolton box but was ultimately denied against Bolton. David Silva was a mere onlooker as City thrashed five past Spurs at the Lane, whilst Newcastle’s Steven Taylor was but a mere whisker away from coming good on Paddy’s 80/1 for the two goals or more market against Fulham.

Well, maybe more than a few whiskers – a beard perhaps. A ZZ Top beard. Nonetheless, we feel close to pegging Paddy back, and with odds on Edin Dzeko, John Arne Riise, Clint Dempsey, Adel Taarabt and a debutant special for Nicklas Bendtner and Fulham’s Bryan Ruiz, we look well placed to fill our boots this weekend.

Read on to find out how our trip to the bookies went with this week’s Fantasy Flutter.

First market back after two weeks and it’s like being a kid in a candy store, or more appropriately Edin Dzeko in a Spurs penalty box. With 6 goals to his name already and some beauties amongst them, Dzeko is making the most of City’s million pound comedy of providers, and, although Wigan have led a stern back-line so far this season, City’s quality will be too much for them. Paddy is going better than most with 3/1 for him to get the first goal, and with two early bird strikes already, £2 is an easy risk.

Back in his days at Anfield, John Arne Riise could launch a shot from 30-yards and rip fingers off any keeper brave enough to stick a glove in way. A spell at Roma and a few years later, Riise might not be making as many breaks down the wing as he did in his early days, but he has still got plenty about him. Paddy have tempted us with a goal and a clean-sheet special at 12/1, but we fancy a taste of 10/1 for an outside the penalty area screamer for a quid.

We can almost label this week’s flutter as a ‘Fulham Special’ as odds on Clint Dempsey are up next. A trusted entry in to any Fantasy manager’s squad, the American bagged 12 goals last season and is always a threat. If Riise is blasting in a 25-yard missile, we’ll take Dempsey to line up the assist on the left of Martin Jol’s midfield, priced up at 11/4 with Paddy. We’ll take £4 at those odds, and if you fancy him going one better, then Paddy are offering an anytime goal (9/5) and a headed goal (4/1) at decent prices too.

The belle of the championship last season, Adel Taarabt seems out at sea with the big boys so far this season based on Fantasy returns. Take a peek at our Watchlist article this week to read between the lines, as his statistics show, he’s knocking at the door. Still set-piece hogger, even with Joey Barton an eager participant, Taarabt to score form outside the box at 6/1 is on for £1.

In place of our regular team accumulator, and, to welcome a host of new deadline day signings, Paddy have put together a “Debutant Special” featuring Nicklas Bendtner and Bryan Ruiz.

It was rumoured that Bendtner had not been getting games for Arsenal, not because he was out of favour with Arsene Wenger, but because the Dane’s ego had expanded to such a vast size he could no longer board the team bus and journey to away games. This, may well be conjecture, but at least he now has an opportunity to silence his critics. Bendtner makes one half of a 10/1 goalscoring double, alongside our third Fulham player Bryan Ruiz. An import from Dutch league leaders Twente, Ruiz has seen goals in the Eredivisie, but we wait with baited breath as to whether he will turn out to be a Mateja Kezman or a Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

Our last £2, making up this week’s tenner, is slipped over the counter with our pen-strokes scrawled on a betting sheet, Paddy, as always, smiles in receipt. Come back next week to find out if Paddy is still beaming or if the Scout makes it back into the black.

    I reluctantly used my wildcard to get players in prior to their price increases at the start of the international period.

    My team is now this.

    Given

    Ward, Enrique. bosingwa

    barton, Ramsey, Mata, Young

    Rooney, Suarez, Dzecko

    Vorm, S Taylor, n Taylor, Moses

    Lots of away games in my team but iv chosen this for the long haul. I feel Stoke will get lots of clean sheets. Cant really fit any of their defenders in though

    Opinions please

    Ok, made some "small" tweaks:

    Bosingwa -> Warnock (Bos could've been Komp but I think Kompany is a season keeper for sure)
    Taylor S -> Ward
    Taarabt -> Brunt
    Petrov -> Dyer
    Holt -> Dzeko
    Given -> Krul

    So my team will look liek this:

    Krul (Vorm)
    Kompany, Warnock, De Laet (Ward, Bramble)
    Nasri, Walcott, Cabaye, Brunt (Dyer)
    Dzeko, Rooney, RvP
    +0.5 for Walcott to Mata GW6

    Chickened out from dropping Dzeko as I came to conclusion that it wouldn't be worth the risk... All aboard!

    Which GK pairing do I go with?

    I have Krul & Vorm (the latter in the hope he caught a double price rise - which he didn't) but am looking to pair Krul long-term with a £5m goalie.

    My options are:
    Begovich
    Schwarzer
    Given

    Begovich is one of my fave Prem GK's and his fixtures rotate pretty well with Newcastle's when you look at the teams they will each play through October but so do Schwarzer's.

    I already am doubling up in defence with Steven Taylor and Krul and also have Riise so should I be concerned about doubling up again with Schwarzer? (My other defenders are Kompany, N. Taylor and Ward)

    Given I had at the start of the season and missed his cleanies so am worried I will continue to do so if I bring him back in again as there will be tough choices

    Help!

    Right here’s me trying to convince myself that Tevez WILL start – Mancini has just stripped him of the captaincy, to keep him on the bench would be an extra slap in the chops and probably ensure that Tevez will be a moaning tit until he moves in January.
    I think he will play him to keep him sweet and get him a little sharper, giving either Dzeko or Aguero a little break too for the upcoming Champions League match.

    Plausible?

    Last minute help with this team, guys?

    I’m not convinced of the midfield, and Dzeko. But really, if I take Dzeko out, who am I gonna put in?

    Krul (Vorm)
    Ward Hughes Bosingwa DeLaet (Simpson)
    Young Silva(VC) Brunt (Dyer O’Hara)
    Rooney V.Persie(C) Dzeko

    Right, team set -

    Krul (Vorm)

    Enrique, Bosingwa, Kompany (De Laet, R Taylor)

    Walcott, Henderson, Silva (C), Anderson (Petrov)

    Rooney, Dzeko (VC), Suarez

    The only thing bugging me was swapping SWP for Walcott and downgrading Ivanovic to R Taylor, I think SWP can do very well at QPR and Ivanovic has big differential potential – I know he may not play but I don’t like having 3 defenders or def from weaker clubs! The lack of Arsenal cover was scaring me though…

    Who for and why? He’s nailed on as captain for the best defensive club in the league, he may not get many goals but there’s a lot of 6 pointers to be had – and he’s cheapish!

    I reckon it may be sacrificing a little too much in mid/def for that front line, would be tempted to downgrade Bent to Dkezo/Adebayor/Agbonlahor and bulk up elsewhere a little. Of course Bent could always score a hat-trick and mess that up!

    You never know who’s going to be rotated, as long as you have playing subs, ideally one decent one, I wouldn’t worry too much – just don’t captain any riskier players!

    Interesting, Bale is a nice differential with VdV out. Not sure whether Dempsey will be as affective with Zamora and Ruiz up top (i assume), but overall looks very solid. I’ve held off on Enrique for now, just because of fixtures, but will no doubt have him soon.

    I like the idea of Dempsey – he scored a lot of points last term. Is Zam going to start? I think Dempsey will play just behind Ruiz. Plus good fixtures. Have you noticed too the Bale is owned by 16% of managers, but I haven’t seen him at all on here! Strange

    I know it's a bit tedious but I was wondering if anyone can offer any advice on this wild card team.

    Vorm, Krul
    Bosingwa, Brown, Ward, De Laet, R Taylor
    Silva, Young, Walcott, Obertan, Dyer
    RVP, Suarez, Dzeko

    I've got 0.6 mil in the bank which I think I'll ideally save to upgrade Mata to Walcott in GW6.

    Any thoughts and suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Cheers in advance.
