The concept of a player being fixture proof in Fantasy football is a much discussed topic around these parts. Wayne Rooney put forward a strong case a few gameweeks back, defying United’s tricky opening to the season with a points tally that left all but Sergio Aguero in his wake. Today, Robin Van Persie perhaps presented even stronger evidence that, when a player has talent and form, no opposition can stand in their way.

Van Persie is certainly a force of nature right now. Seven goals in his last three games have propelled him to the top of every Fantasy manager’s most wanted list. The Dutchman, along with Rooney and Aguero, have all enjoyed devastating spells of form this season. Any Fantasy manager who has failed to catch at least one of them, surely finds themselves floundering.

Ironically, it’s Wayne Rooney who has been hugely overshadowed by Van Persie’s recent returns. Today at Goodison, Rooney dropped alarmingly deep, as Alex Ferguson charged Danny Welback and Javier Hernandez to push on. In Fantasy terms, certainly as far as our own ICT Index is concerned, Rooney suffered his least effective 90 minutes of the season – the numbers are there – our Members can see for themselves.

Van Persie meanwhile, made a mockery of the fixture list which told us that a trip to Chelsea would pose him problems; that perhaps he couldn’t maintain his recent form at Stamford Bridge. Friday night’s decision to go with Van Persie over Sergio Aguero in the Scout Picks wasn’t taken lightly. We suspected that the Chelsea defence would be unable to keep the Dutchman at bay. Nobody could have predicted the havoc he would cause, the delicious end product he would deliver.

In three games, Van Persie has returned 36 Fantasy Premier League points – a tally that will surely increase with bonus points on Monday and perhaps the award of an assist for Theo Walcott’s goal. In contrast, Rooney has produced 5 points over the same three gameweeks. When you throw in the captaincy, that’s a big swing and painful reading for those who held Rooney with faith that his undoubted talent and early season form would see him through.

Conveniently, then, that takes us full circle. While Van Persie has done so much today to prove the theory that, with class and form, the opposition is irrelevant, Rooney’s recent returns present strong evidence of the contrary. The matches against Liverpool, City and Everton looked tough for Rooney- five points is certainly proof of that. Another twist in what is rapidly becoming a fascinating Fantasy season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

gents a 4 point hit worth it?

    Arteta -> Ramsey
    Woodgate -> P Jones

Manu have a nice run i have no coverage. Ramsey in a a bit crabby but saves 1.5M, plus with Kompany out i'll have to hope woodgate gets a game or have to play brown at ManU.

    Current side:
    Begovic Ruddy
    Kompany Woodgate Enrique Brown Simpson
    Silva VdV Dyer Arteta MPetrov
    Adebayor Suarez Augero

Its a bit of a mess and im down around the 290k mark, any comments please.

You're probably right. Really want Sess from week 12 on. The only way I can see to do it is to trade Ryan Taylor down to a 3.9 then pilk up to Sess.

Will maybe wait and see how prices change or just get Drenthe instead.

Hasn't it been in the rules forever? If a defender gets sent off then he carries on conceding until the end of the match. So if he went off at 0-0 in the 2nd minute and the team lost 6-0 he's get -3 for the goals conceded plus the -3 for the sending off

Do you guys think SAF will persist with dropping Rooney deep and have Wellbeck and Chicarito up front together?

Surely he must know Rooney does most damage playing alongside another forward upfront. With a juicy home game next GW, I'm going to keep Rooney regardless of how much he drops, and see where he's played against Sunderland. If he's still played deep at home, then I'll have to reconsider and get rid off him.

The idea of having no Rooney or United cover with their upcoming fixtures seems insane. Don't fancy any other United attacking options at the moment. Only Jones appeals to me for some defensive cover and I might get him in for Kompany.

      No.

I expect a 4411 at home next week to Sunderland - Rooney behind Hernandez.

Rooney playing deep allows him to influence the game more with his passes and will lead to him getting more assists. Maybe not many goals, but he's still on pens and freekicks.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to convince myself with to keep him, but he's awfully expensive to keep returning just 1 and 2 pointers. But you know when he's firing on all cylinders, he's a player who can get you double digits easily. I think I will persist with him for a while and pray my faith in him pays off, hopefully sooner rather than later 🙂

A part of me thinks SAF did it to 'protect' Roon from having to be 'forced' into scoring vs. Everton.

Utd needed the midfield help anyway, Hernandez and Welbz should have been enough for the game. They were.

Nice one Match of the Day, completely ignoring the fact that the West Brom player got the ball for the Liverpool penalty. I could stay on my feet for longer when I was nearly 2 years old than Suarez can, and I own the little rascal.

Nice to see Szczesny sent off like Turnbull was despite a defender actually covering Turnbull. As well as Everton getting a penalty for a push like the one Luiz did but oh well it's good to see consistency in refereeing.

    PS I'm not that bitter.

Cech did not cover himself in glory today I'll admit that but what did De Gea do apart from the routine saves shown by MotD including the one he let through his hands and it hit him in the face?

Getting the ball does not prevent a foul.

And when a Chels fan decries the lack of Szczceceny being sent off as a (partial) reason for losing - it's time to have a hard look at your team and tactics. Chels should have been better than Arse. They weren't. Look into why they weren't.

I never said that we shouldn't have lost and being at the game I agree that Arsenal deserved it. It's just that I am sure that if Cech had done that he would have been sent off.

Doesn't berating referee decisions every week, every game, all season get tiring for you?

Reffing isn't perfect and/or 100% consistent. Until the robot overlords install Refbot5000 to do games, it'll stay that way. Your giving yourself an ulcer. Life's too short.

It does and I really wish I didn't have to do it. But sadly I do as it appears to me that we are not getting a fair crack of the whip although I am glad that today we didn't as hopefully now AVB realises that Meireles should play every game. Lampard and Mikel cannot play together, and I would play neither. That in the important games Sturridge is not good enough and that the high will not work with the defence we have at the moment. After today's game I genuinely thought that Gary Cahill would be a good signing for us, now not so much.

I think your team analysis is more interesting and insightful ... rather than complaining about a call that you yourself admit didn't even cost you the game.

United lost the Championship to Chels on that Drogs offside call and I/others don't go on banging the drum and proclaiming we don't get a 'fair crack of the whip' each week.

It's the Boy Who Cried Wolf syndrome - many would listen to you more intently if you restrained your ref complaints to a few. You didn't ask, just sayin'

Ignoring RVP for Cap't next week seems ... speculative.

Aguero could be rotated - or could play and get all of five points like today. And, of course, he could do much better. But the odds seem in VP's favor.

Can you please tell me why Van Persie has not been awarded an assist for his pass to Walcott for Arsenals 3rd goal.

wow. That is some serious firepower you have to come. I've VDV captain too and Shawcross although hoping Ade does nothing.

If i can come out of this weekend with Aguero, Rooney, Dzeko, Agbonlahor and Adebayor having a goal and assist between them i'll be delighted. I have none of them!
