The Big Numbers – Gameweek 5

Our regular post-Gameweek delve into the members’ data is next on our Tuesday schedule.

We look at why Sergio Aguero has profited from a change of tactics and try to ascertain just why Harry Kane’s output remains a major issue at Wembley Stadium.

Man City, Brighton and Liverpool’s playmakers also find a place in this week’s article, while the West Ham and Swansea defences also catch the eye.

    Ownership this year is killer.

My 3 transfers (-4) all scored and the players out blanked. 7/11 of my players for returns. Kane fail and Lukaku (non owner) last minute doing well made me fall in rank

    1. Jsadler95
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 1 month ago

The one player who'll be a staple in my team all year is Lukaku unless something drastic happens. If you want differentials do it elsewhere as I just don't feel the reward is worth the risk when he's performing so regularly.

      1. mikess
        • 14 Years
        7 years, 1 month ago

I wouldn't say I've differentialed with Kane, Firmino and Jesus

          • 8 Years
          7 years, 1 month ago

No I agree, but Lukaku is just very highly picked so without him you're always going to notice rank drops if he performs. I guess it may balance itself though on weeks where he doesn't when you have 3 potential performers like those. Firmino probably wont be too good without Mane in the side though atm as when he's played out wide he's way less effective.

What're your reasons for B over A then? As Jesus and Morata surely both come above Vardy in the pecking order but is Kane just that superior in your opinion then?

Okay that makes sense. Well I'm hoping it goes my way as guy top of the league I'm in has Kane and Vardy and I have Morata Jesus just behind him. I guess if Jesus' minutes get reduced once we're in full flow of 2 games a week then I'll have to reconsider. Thanks!

Definitely A. Kane will only get you two very expensive points, while both Morata and Jesus might score a few. Ideally you’d have Agüero instead of Jesus, but I understand that it’s hard to find that extra £1.something

Those who have Kun looking to captain him over Kane, Kaku?

    1. greghammer95
      • 14 Years
      7 years, 1 month ago

Kaku and Kane aren't great options IMO this week.

As a West Ham fan I can't bring myself to have Kane (C) and Eriksen against us, also Antonio in that game and the ideal situation will never happen with Kane scoring a brace assisted by Eriksen and West Ham winning 3-2....

If I had Aguero I'd go for him 100%, as it is, Kolasinac going to be my captain.

I wouldn't build a team around it - but if I had Joselu/Gabbi etc - I'd be seriously looking at him for a punt yes.

I think he's a genuine option now. Bilic seems to want him in and results have been better since he's played.

I'm punting on him next week as a double up with Antonio, dropping Mounie for obvious reasons.

    Hi folks;

10.8 to spend on 1 midfielder and 1 forward. Only 1 out of those 2 plus RLC required to play each week. Which do you like best?

    A) Hemed & Ritchie
    B) Ayew & Gross 0.2 itb
    C) Joselu & Can 0.3 itb

On Wildcard and pretty set on the rest of the team playing 442:

    Pickford/Elliott
Kolasinac/Davies/Jones/(Cresswell/Ward rotate well for the 4th spot)
    Eriksen/Salah/Silva/____/RLC
    Aguero/Lukaku/____

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure I can afford Alonso either, on WC too and caught .6 in rises and hoping a few will rise again so I can sell them and bank the profit

I am going to rotate some of my top 6 players every 2 weeks so if Morata or Firmino comes in then Alonso comes in too

    Mendy versus Walker

The only thing Mendy has over Walker really is his penchant to get into the attacking third and whip in crosses.

Walker meanwhile is no slouch when it comes to getting forward and is an assist machine. More notably for me, he rarely loses the ball whereas Mendy does. Waker's pass completion, tackles and dribble success are very strong. This makes him a regular candidate for BAPS. Mendy may have the upper hand when it comes to assists (or may not), but Walker's consistency and likelihood to be more involved in BAPS gives him the edge.

    Thoughts?

midfield is too weak. Can >> Atsu at 5m.

Consider Mbemba at 4m or Elliot at 4m to free up cash.

Aguero / Jesus double up is bold. Jesus >> Morata or Vardy would allow some spend elsewhere.

Is it madness to go into this w/end without a City forward? I have a front 3 of Kane (who I took a hit to get in last week), Lukaku and Firmino. 1FT but it feels wrong to shift Kane out so quick, but the fixture and form make me think its wise to follow the points. I'm having a bad season so I'm at a loss what to do for the best. I'm not convinced that Silva is worth getting in as the only players I could move for him are Erik and Mhki who I believe are worth keeping. Thoughts?

Reading comments on WC teams that include Alonso, bavies, mendy and kola..people saying 'your midfield is too weak'. Err ok but they have 4 wingers with amazing cleany and attacking potential

Exactly. Three at the back is hard to justify when there are so many good defensive options.

if u want to consider them as wingers they're pretty shite fpl wingers. alonso had 6 goals and 5 assists, pretty sure if a 7m mid had those stats no one would consider him

      same goes for mendy

kolasinac is actually as attacking as normal wingers though, not the other two

Wingers with clean sheets and bps, big big difference

when u include bps and cs ur considering them as a whole, in which case i agree they're good picks, which they are

i just think this whole they're more attacking than normal wingers talk is bs, they're not wingers, theyre wingbacks

Not many decent wingers in the 5.0 - 7.0 bracket that will touch a decent wing back, plus the wingers tend to get rotated and subbed

they're more attacking than wingbacks, and will get more attacking returns

Heat maps says no, touches of the ball say no, crosses say no, touches in final third say no, points last season say no, minutes played say no ... imho

all im saying is they're not more attacking than wingers, which quite a few seem to think on here

can you give an example of a good 7m MID winger?

willian gets more assists and goals than alonso

maybe u don't understand what im saying to u right now, the original comment considered the likes of alonso davies etc as wingers. they're not. people exaggerate their attacking threat becuase they get cleanies

With all the wing backs I think you need to consider the defenders and mids as a whole - some wing backs are more advanced than mid options

    Who to captain this GW?
    A) Kane
    B) Jesus

I'll probably captain Jesus if he gets subbed at 60' and Kun plays 90' in league cup.
