Double Gameweek 22 for Spurs and West Ham

The Premier League have sprung an early Christmas surprise on us today, with confirmation that Fantasy managers are set for our first Double Gameweek of the 2017/18 season.

Spurs’ home clash with West Ham, which was due to be played on December 31, has been rescheduled to January 4 due to transport issues.

This means that both clubs will have a blank Gameweek 21 but play twice in the following round of fixtures.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will travel to Swansea City on January 2 before hosting the Hammers, who entertain West Brom prior to their trip to Wembley Stadium.

Intriguingly, this also coincides with the availability of the second wildcard of the season, which comes into play after 2pm on December 30 – ie, once the Gameweek 21 deadline has passed.

This could persuade many to load up on Spurs assets, with Harry Kane – up against the current bottom two teams in the Premier League – set to prove a huge armband favourite.

Similarly, the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli could earn extra investment after falling out of favour in recent weeks, with the Free Hit Chip another alternative for those looking to retain their second Wildcard for the double Gameweeks to come.

The Kane strategy will be vital. Those who take the striker into the Christmas period must now decide his fate ahead of a Gameweek 21 blank. There is no question that his ownership will take a significant blow following his Boxing Day match-up with Southampton.

There will, therefore, be an option to reserve the transfers to sell for Gameweek 21 and buy back for his potential two fixtures.

Significantly, the Spurs blank features favourable fixtures for teams boasting viable alternatives to Kane.

Alvaro Morata could possibly start against Stoke City, Roberto Firmino may start against Leicester City at Anfield, Alexandre Lacazette is at West Brom, while the Manchester City duo of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus will go to Crystal Palace.

They could all offer the option to replace Kane for Gameweek 21 as a temporary stop-gap.

However, reserving transfers during this period, which will be heavy for rest, rotation, injuries and suspensions, is perhaps wishful thinking. A points hit is an option, of course, though that will put more pressure on Kane’s starts and returns in Gameweek 22.

An FA Cup Third Round tie, which could possibly follow on Saturday, January 6, throws another variable into the mix. Depending on their opponent, it’s possible that Spurs could put some priority on this and Kane’s minutes in this double Gameweek may ultimately depend on their FA Cup opponents.

Luckily, the draw is 7pm tonight, so if Spurs get a lower-league side, we’d surely bank on Kane getting a full run at both Swansea and West Ham. That would then make the Triple Captain chip an option, though given Kane’s rollercoaster returns so far, that would have to be considered carefully.

The double Gameweek adds another intriguing dilemma into the hectic festive period. While it could be potentially highly profitable for those who commit to Kane, it’s a scenario that clearly needs careful consideration and planning based on the information and trends available nearer the time.

Mark doing his best to save Kane from the drop on Twitter. Going with the "Double Gameweek" headline rather than the fact they've got a blank (which is sooner!)

    Good work!

The blank feeds nicely into my christmas plans. Always intended to lose Kane after the next 2 and divert funds into midfield. This gives me an extra week of breathing space before I need to worry about getting him back.

Very similar formation to mine with the exact same forwarders!
I was thinking to sell Vardy for a cheap forward so that I can get Hazard...Vardy could well explode soon but I am seeing him too inconsistent for a Leicester team who have now got the ball rolling...Mahrez has been much more consistent and in form lately.

Leicester has picked up momentum as a team lately but I see Vardy as very inconsistent. I don’t know if I should keep or sell for a cheap forward so that I get Hazard instead. What you guys think?

    Hi all,

Back again, the FFS forums helped me massively this week with their advice - first green arrows in a while. So i was hoping for further help.

Below is my team, i had 2 FT but i swapped Elliot out for Speroni (may not be the best decision)

    Fab/Speroni
    Christensen/Ward/Duffy/Naughton/3.9
    Salah/Hazard/Sane/Richalison/RLC
    Kane/Morata/Wilson

    Options are

    A) Hold
    B) Swap Wilson for DCL ( i think Wilson could start this weekend though)
    C) Any other suggestions.

    Thanks again!

Wilson might start though, DCL starts only if Niasse starts on thurs so its best to wait till after the thurs game

Pep has spoken about learning to attack with two strikers after yeserday’s Game. Does this improve prospects of both Kun and Jesus? At the cost of one of the wingers or midfielders? Not necessarily for the United game but the ones after that. Any thoughts?

GW22 looks perfect for a free hit. Arsenal vs Chelsea is going to potentially tie up some heavy hitters in many teams, so not only is loading up on Spurs an option but the free hit means better options can be found elsewhere. Man City v Watford and Everton Man Utd look best options.

I'm worried with the amount of opportunities Arsenal had to score and it was all De Gea's masterclass that stood in the way. ManUtd's defence was leaking a lot. They conceded 2 to Watford a few days earlier.
Having said that, I don't feel too optimistic about Zeegelaar getting points at Burnley.
      I'd play Valencia.

Hard to say, If i was going to make a spectacularly uneducated guess, Wilson and Afobe to rotate since Wilson is coming off the back of a (2nd?) ACL, and Howe seems to like Defoe who should be good for 45 until he is injured or needs a rest.

Keep it till the dbgws. You can potentially make far more if you have a few players on dbgws outside your first 11. You need these chips towards the end in dbgws to really smash it points wise

Sick of owning Sane (no Other City coverage). What do you prefer:

    A) Sane >>Sterling
    B) Sane>>Silva
    C) Sane>>Mahrez
    D) Mustafi >>Christensen (own Hazard + Morata)
    E) Sane + Mustafi >>Christensen + 9.0m MID (-4)

Other mids are Salah / Hazard / Grob / Rich

    Thoughts?

    Lloris
    Daniels - Bellerin - Maguire - Alonso
    Salah - Richarlison - Hazard
    Kane - Morata - Wilson

Bench: Elliot - Surman - Mariappa - Carrick

Taken a -8 already this week to enable:
    OUT: Walker, Sane, Carroll
    IN: Mariappa, Salah, Richarlison

Just so late to get these players.
Not sure on taking hits to get players everyone else already has,

Have my WC left. Was contemplating using it but it should be an extra help in planning for this DGW now.
Flashbacks to the Christmas DGW spurs had a few years ago now.
Van der vaart - 21 pointer, highest gameweek scorer and my captain that week.
Bale - High teens score iirc
Entrie spurs defence - Two CS's iirc.

hello everyone, care for a RMT?

    pope, Elliot
    ward, Christensen, otamendi, daniels, mbemba*
    salah, haz, silva*, richarlison, RLC
    kane, morata, niasse*

    0.7itb 1ft
silva, niasse, mbemba are on my hitlist - but if I can avoid any drops and any further rises to sterling/DCL I'm tempted to save the FT this week
plan to move silva to sterling after derby and upgrade niasse or mbemba then
    thoughts?

Similar issue to my team in the comment below!

Current team with 0.3m ITB and 2 FT:
    Forster, (Elliot)
    Daniels, Davies, Hegazi, (Naughton), (Mbemba)
    Salah, Hazard, Sane, Choupo-Moting, (Carroll)
    Morata, Kane, Wilson

Sane to Coutinho is my gut feel for this week.

Planning on Wilson > RCL next week.

I realise there's a big problem at the back- Elliot no longer starting, Daniels has poor fixtures and Hegazi, Naughton & Mbemba are fairly useless!

    Any advice!?

ye I think your defence is a problem - kiko, Moreno, tarkowski are the similar priced replacements
consider Kenny over mbemba to keep costs down? I would ship davies - rotation and poor CS chance right now
forster will keep you sound so would avoid Elliot for now

yes coutinho is looking good but I would worry you are concentrating on your fur coat and forgetting about your knickers

Ahahaha very wise advice, I am definitely forgetting about my knickers!!

I'll take your advice and sort my defence!

        Thanks mate

Planning to roll the FT, would you agree? Any move worth to make before this GW?

    Fabianski
    Maguire / Daniels / Ward
    Hazard / Salah / Sterling / Richarlison / Gross
    Kane / Morata
Subs: Elliot / DCL / Dunk / Mbemba
