Roberto Manicini’s City side cruise past the banana skin thrown down by Mark Hughes and his Fulham outfit at the Cottage. Up at Ewood meanwhile, it’s another setback for Gerard Houllier as Villa are kept at bay by a resolute Rovers following a couple of Morten Gamst Pedersen strikes. Here’s the notes from Sunday’s events…

Blackburn put in a stout defensive performance in their 2-0 home win over Aston Villa, with a series of impressive Paul Robinson saves mainly responsible for the clean sheet. Nikola Kalinic was dropped as Jason Roberts led the line in a game that saw David Dunn manage his first full game of the season. After next week’s trip to Old Trafford, Big Sam’s team have a kind run of fixtures that read (WOL, bol, WHM, STK, wba) and look in good form; this was their third win in four. Morten Gamst Pedersen, in particular, looks a player worth considering; his match-winning brace means he has now returned 4 goals and 9 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points in his last four league games.

An overnight illness kept rising star Marc Albrighton out of the Aston Villa line-up, forcing Ashley Young back into midfield, with Stephen Ireland coming in to play off a lone forward. Robert Pires came off the bench to make his debut for Gerard Houllier’s side, but the injury-decimated Midlanders are far from full-strength right now. Known for their defensive solidity under Martin O’Neill, Villa are struggling to keep opponents at bay; they’ve earned just one clean sheet in the last six games.

Carlos Salcido and Chris Baird returned from injury for Fulham, but the Cottagers were blown apart by visitors Man City. Mark Hughes’ side had only conceded two goals in their previous four games, but the gulf in class was alarming at times. Fulham have now managed just one win in their last ten games and with both Bobby Zamora and Moussa Dembele out injured, look toothless up front. Three critical home games in the next five (BIR, ars, SUN, liv, WHM) could help their cause but Hughes’ side are perilously close to being drawn into the relegation zone.

Man City brushed aside recent claims of negative football by putting four goals past Fulham in their most impressive performance of the season. Talisman Carlos Tevez grabbed two goals and one assist in a display that saw him pick up the maximum 3 FPL Bonus Points. That haul makes him the Premier League top scorer and puts him just a point behind Bolton’s Johan Elmander in the FPL Forward rankings.

A deflected Zoltan Gera goal meant City conceded for the first time in four games, but Joe Hart was rarely troubled as their back four continue to look impressive. Interestingly, full-back Aleksander Kolarov was also taking corners, which could give him the edge over other City defenders for an upcoming run of games that reads (stk, BOL, whm, EVE, new, AVL). James Milner and Adam Johnson were again benched as Yaya Toure impressed in an attacking central midfield role for Roberto Mancini’s side.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Happy with my team but need to invest in a new goalie. Got 2M in the bank, IMO Tim Howard looks like the best option. Opinions?

Drogba or Elmander this weekend. Never thought I'd ever have to post that question.

Other strikers are Tevez and Carrol. Two "keepers".

I'd rather have Elmander this weekend but Drog for the season, however Newcastle will be without Williamson and Collicini it looks like so Drog could clean up.

Yep that tweet about Williamson is the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I was really thinking about dropping Drog for Tevez, but the fact that Newc' won't have either first choice CB this weekend is a delicious prospect for Drog owners.

Yeah I was also thinking of using the time to improve my defense. I want to hang on to Adam, but I might get rid of Bosingwa for someone cheaper to free up some funds. It's great when he plays, but I don't want someone who's a rotation risk every week.

Drogs has 9 shots in Saturday, 5 on target, 2 off and 2 blocked (hitting the woodwork included). Tevez had 3 shotsin total, 2 goals, one deflection and one from offside. So u decide.

Ha ha. Good call but think like this. For less paid money u can get returns and use the cash for mids and defenders. What kind of advantage u'll have compared to the lads with 2 expensive or even 3 expensive forwards.

...because I think Elmander will outscore him over the next 6 to 8 games, will rise in value more than him over the same period, and I've got that wildcard in January to sort things out should it go wrong.

boateng to kolarov may seem a side ways move but is well worth doing imo, or consider using yous 1.2 to upgrade feguson and give yourself more options to play the fixtures. Drog to tevez is another worth considering though it could backfire.

If I had to rank Steinsson, Faye and Dann for the previous weekend I'd have gone for exactly the same order as he did.

This is the game man. If the shoe was on the other foot I'm sure you'd be delighted. I get more frustrated with the emergency captain rule when someone's captain doesn't play but they get lucky and it switches to someone with epic points.

But if I was building a team, I'd choose Chamakh over RVP because of youth and potential.

RvP is only 27! And isn't Arsenal's problem that they have too MUCH youth and not enough experience? Chamakh has the potential to be just half the player that RvP currently is. This is crazy talk!

That's a consideration if a club was going to choose between signing RVP and Chamakh. If you have both available and fit, obviously RVP is a better player, so he'd be the one playing until he gets crocked again.

RvP's problem is that he gets injured a lot, not that he was good when he was 24 and has done nothing since.

I'm really on your side here and I absolutely don't think Chamakh is better than him in any way, but I do think people are a bit hard on Chamakh on here.

He looks low on confidence at the moment but I think he has the qualities to be a good player for Arsenal if some things work out in his way.

RVP averages only 11 league goals a season, when he actually plays more than 20 games.

Chamakh is up to 6 in his first season at Arsenal, how many games will it take him to score 6 more goals if he continues to start?

Hey, could someone give me a hand working out who the captain's armband will be passed to on form?

My rival has Gyan captain. If he doesn't play, who will it go to out of this bunch?

      Hart,
      Elmohamady, Cole A. Coleman
Adam, Malouda, Nasri, Van der Vaart
      Drogba (Gyan (C)) Carroll

      Al-Habsi, Givet, Tamas, Barton.

I went to transfers and selected "Form" - Carroll is on 7 and VdV is on 6.7. Is this definitive? I'm wondering does it only work based on previous games' form, does it include this weekend, etc etc?
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light.

If I had a bolton striker or VDV i would pick one of them. I have neither though....might just be brave and go Drogba.

Is it not the form prior to the Gw starting?

Should still be Carroll either way, surely?

dunno. Think it's ave score for last 3 or 5 games prior to gw starting. I might be wrong though.

I'm probably wrong. Was just guessing that if Carroll is ahead on form now, then surely he must have been before the GW as VdV comfortably outscored him this week.

I don't fully understand how it works though so may be wrong.

"A new captain, either the player with the highest form or price value at the start of the gameweek"

So fpl seems to suggest it's the form before the week starts, and if Carroll is above VDV on form now, after VDV outscoring him this weekend, then he must have been above him before the GW started too. Nice.

Yeap Carroll was on 7.0 & VdV was on 4.4 at the start of the GW. Ignore Devil below

Random weekend but worked out ok. Still got Elmo and Coleman to go but chances are Elmo will play 1 minute.

I need to sort my defence out and replace ELmo with Bardsley but I hear he could be a risk once Ferdinand is back. Anyone have ideas on this? Who else is there as a cheapo defender (3.9-4.3m) that actually keeps clean sheets? I looked at Foley but Wolves leak goals constantly. Trying to free up cash for Salcido to Kolarov after this gameweek and I have 0.0 in the bank.

      If you're lazy I have A.Cole/Ridgewell/Faye/Alcaraz/Williamson

Such a wounder I picked Jussi over Foster this week. Would seem like the obvious choice but it hurt me last year also, I had Hart and Dann on the bench when they drew 0-0 last season.

Not one red arrow this month and down to 113k overall. I always seem to do w*nk in November, not sure why, West Brom are always rubbish in November aswel. Not thinking of making a transfer this week.

Please comment on my cunning stunt plan:-

I want to Transfer Adam for Lee this week.

GW 15 - Play Lee (BPL) Bench Carrol (CHE)

GW 16 - Play Carrol (wba) Bench Lee (mcy)

Thereafter sell Carrol (LIV bir MCY) and buy Elmander/Davies (BLA sun WBA)

As a poster above me stated, you can always buy Carrol back, as one does not want to miss out on a Bolton upswing.

      Cunning or Foolish?

Or in my case gw 15 Ferg-->Lee and play both Adam & Lee. Bench Carroll.

Gw 16: bench Lee and play Adam & Carroll
Gw 17: Bench Adam Play Lee & Carroll

This season started as one for best midfield possible, but now there seems to be bundles of "must haves" up front...Tevez, Drogba, Elmander/Davies, Carroll etc etc
