We’re hosting another community questions video special this afternoon.
Joe and Neale will be on air on our YouTube channel from 12:30pm BST but you can also tune in via the embedded video below.
This will be converted into podcast format after the event.
As happened on Tuesday, we’ll be addressing some of the questions and issues raised in the Hot Topic and Tweet that we put out earlier in the week.
ritzyd asked about budget gems, so Joe and Neale will be delving into the best bench fodder options in each of the positions – if there are any, that is.
Kane Lane and I Member wondered if Chelsea assets – including Olivier Giroud – are being overlooked and that issue will also be tackled in today’s stream.
Joe and Neale also share their general thoughts on building a Gameweek 1 squad and any advice that may be useful.
We’ll be live again next Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime tackling more of the requests that were submitted on our site or on social media.
Keep your requests coming in for topics of debate in the meantime and we’ll get through as many as we can before the season begins.
The question is what kind of United will we get? Its what puts me off.
Besides, I expect Vardy to really outscore him, for only an extra 0.5mFair point, the community article on Leicester assets was interesting and made me question Vardy slightly.
Expect United to by dynamic and attacking either way
Wait and see with him. Opening fixtures aren’t great anyway
Depends on a few things though like whether we're rubbish again plus probably competing for a spot with Wilson/Vardy in your team at that price,
I had a team earlier with Wilson, Vardy & Rashford in it but I want to wait and see with Rashford and wanted a premium striker for “squad balance”.
Really like all 3 but it'd ruin everything else I want.
He was the main man end of last season was so poor. That was when the mood was very low however. Personally prefer pogba at the same price but feel Rashford will come good if they get that spirit back. If they do that though pogba is essential
Yea for me Pogba or Rashford, tough one at the minute but probably Pogba (if he commits obv)
Yeah i’n Probably getting pogba when fixtures clear up on GW3 WC, no need to rush into United
The contrast with Rashford's early form under Ole and at the end of the season was amazing, he was involved in everything at the start, closing down constantly, looking hungry and at the end he looked utterly awful.
I'd avoid Utd for first 2
Potentially although Chelsea may not be great defensively to start with and struggle with United’s pace.
Wolves United could potentially be a high scoring game aswell, hard to know
Are we really sure Jorginho will be in the XI? The guy was Sarri's Golden Boy, and he's gone.
I don’t think so. Has never thrived in any other position in midfield other than sarri’s. Kante and kovacic is my prediction in the double pivot after his signing. Even bakayoko if he stays. Just not Jorginho. This makes willian an interesting pick as it could mean he takes penalties at 7m
Willian is a good pick regardless of penalties if they don’t make another signing. Is David Luiz in with a shout for penalties with Hazard gone?
I agree he gets all set pieces now. I don’t think David Luiz has a sniff in lampard’s team. With zouma back they have many better options, aswell as tomori who played for lampard’s derby this year. Luiz will be back up CB/CDM if required I imagine.
Only threat to penalties for willian would be who nails down the striker spot
Kovacic thrives from deep, exactly. Playing him advanced was a terrible idea. Love the innovation of Sarriball, but some of the decisions were, questionable, lets say.
Watford goal
Gray essential
That would be unfortunate
Yes
Ryan
Digne Zinchenko TAA Robertson
Salah Sterling Fraser Jorginho
Vardy Deulofeu
Bench: Dendoncker, El Mohamady, Greenwood
Thoughts?Close to one of mine, I'd rather downgrade one of Robbo/Digne/Fraser to VVD/Coleman/Brooks than have Jorginho though.
Mendy>Angelino>Zinchenko
Doubt that after watching Angelino yesterday.
He had 9 assists last season played for PSV.
He will get minutes...im 100% sureHe'll get minutes but won't be ahead of Zinchenko at the start. Got absolutely skinned by Anderson yesterday, gave away a pen, should've given away two and Pep took him aside to give him some pointers. Zinchenko finished the season first choice and they were winning every game, don't see why he'd change it yet.
Angelino needs time to adapt and Mendy's made of pringles
Laporte might play as a LB too
I like pringles
Problem is if Kane, Kun or Auba get off to a great start, it's gonna be hard to get them in
Some random thoughts
Traps: Everton defenders (overpriced and could easily go without a CS until wk6), Tielemans (statistical aberration)
Overlooked: Sp*rs defenders (undervalued), Pogba (fears of leaving)Digne and Coleman have great attacking stats, clean sheet opportunities from reasonable opening fixtures aside
+ 42.
Siggy is the number one trap. He will blank in the first game while Rich scores and everyone who owns Siggy will face price drops because of casuals changing him to Rich
Siggy only for those with the patience to keep for a whole season...that is not me 🙂
100% this
I think Everton is a trap to begin with. Everyone thinking about the end of last season form but double defence is crazy imo. Digne/Coleman will undoubtedly get attacking returns but I wouldn’t be banking on many CS to begin with!
agree with Tielemans and Pogba
Everton defenders have other threats, clean sheets in the nice fixture run will be bonus
Looking at points from Spurs defenders last season, I think they are valued just fine...def not undervaluedI hear the spurs comment - it’s worth a look during preseason
Everton defenders are more than clean sheets and coleman at 5.5 is hardly breaking the bank - remember a couple of years back linked to Utd and 7mil tag for a reason - seems to have come back to fitness
The WCGW3 teams you can look so great compared to your pooey template guys. We’re Gonna smash you x
OK. 😛 😉
Ryan/Burnley
TAA Robbo Digne Zinchenko
Salah Sterling xxx xxx
xxx xxx
A) Zaha, James, Vardy, King (might change Zaha to Fraser by getting Coleman/VVD)
B) Fraser, Perez, Wilson, JotaB
Current plan is to WC gw3 so I can get the likes of Son, Pogba in, shift out Bournemouth. All that considered thoughts on this please? 😉
Pope - Button
VVD - TAA - Digne - Kolasinac - Kelly
Salah - Richarlison - Fraser - Brooks - Dendoncker
Aubameyang - Wilson - Greenwood
Or stick with original plan to hold WC for as long as possible:
Pope - Button
TAA - VVD - Digne - Zinchenko - Kelly
Salah - Sterling - Sigurdsson - Brooks - Dendoncker
Wilson - Jota - Greenwood
Which is better and why please 🙂I like to keep my WC a little longer than only 2 GWs
I'll take your first team, then probably go for a mini WC in GW3 using 3 FTs
Not too much planning. What if Fraser has 2 goals and 2 assists come GW3, do you still want to get rid of him? This helps a lot, thanks!
I saw an RMT with a -1 in the top right. But there's no downvote option. Is that a glitch?
mods can downvote. Probably a misclick. Also, please dont introduce downvotes to the general public.
Sorted now.
Not sure if anyone else has already asked this but has Delph overtaken Digne and Coleman as the primary Everton defensive pick?
According to Marco Silva, "Fabian is a player that can give us different solutions in our midfield because he can play in more than one position and that is important for us.”
This could mean him being out of position in FPL, and the possibility of picking up attacking points. There is a caveat that even in his Villa days, he never hit triple figure points but back then he was classed as a midfielder picking up 1 point for a clean sheet. Also, since then he's had coaching from probably the best coach in the world, with discipline, tactics, and positioning drilled into him.
Having watched City week in, week out, he's not even really a defensive midfielder (although he can play there), or even a left back/winger. His natural style of play is more of an old fashioned box to box in the middle of the park.
Of course, a lot of this will depend on where Silva plays him.I don’t know if he will be a starter though? Digne and Coleman offer more attacking threat from their positions even if he is in midfield.
True.
He does have Gueye as competition if Silva elects to play him as a defensive midfielder, and this may end being a gameweek 1 situation to keep an eye on.
But on the points question - If you added Gueye's points last season (78) to the additional 3 points he would have got for the clean sheets (42), you're looking at 120, which is fairly comparable. Of course, this hardly a scientific way of trying to predict future points but I think, given his price, Everton's opening fixtures, and the potential for out of position points, he could be worth a punt.
I think I might have to keep an eye on Everton's friendlies for more info
Great if he plays, he can really hit it from distance.
Question is, DOES he start in the XI? These comment have made me conclude he is like a versatile fix-it-all handiman. Digne breaks his leg? He can cover. An injured CM? He can cover.Assuming he takes Gueye's place if he goes to PSG, despite Silva saying he's not his replacement.
Better 5.5m Gk?
A)Kepa
B)Lloris
Have no other assets from both teams, btw. Possible Son in GW3DDG
lloris
Chelsea new coach, mostly same defense
Spurs probably losing their 3 topscoring (FPL points) defenders in Trippier, Rose and Alderweireld
Kepa because of better fixtures maybeB
Who is your Man City DF of choice to start the season off with
Any ideas would be welcomedEderson. Set and forget keeper. If using other strategy for gk's then Laporte.
Zinchenko, probably. Think he'll start ahead of Mendy and Angelino.
same...atm confident he'll start (at least the first few GWs)
If Zinchenko is looking nailed, then obviously him.
If not, slightly more complicated. I reckon the extra 0.5 for Laporte over Walker is probably worth itZinchenko.
Thoughts please chaps.. Draft #3
Ryan Heaton
Robertson Laporte Digne Kelly Stearman
Sterling Salah Siggy Fraser Dendonker
King Delefou DCLGood team. Personally I am going to pick one prem fwd (Kane most likely) for team structure
If Sane signs a new contract he becomes a good option right?
would you take the risk of putting him in your team?
I hope he stays...can always add him later on if he plays often enoughI am not even sure that he would. Can’t understand why, though, he’s dynamite.
Anybody got any positive thoughts on who will replace trippier at RB for spurs.
Isn't Aurier injured? I just heard a few hours ago, apparently got injured in AFCON, not sure if he's out until when?
If not injured, I can see Foyth paying OOP at RB.
Foyth is suspended for the first 2 games.
Oh is he? Cheers, just knew haha.
Thanks Diff, will monitor that. If true it has to improve KWP hopes of playing.
KWP could fill in GW1. GW2 is City away. GW3 Foyth is back. I'd let GW1 go and wait, if I were you.
Aurier Foyth or that youngster with a double barrel surname Walker Peter's I think. I'd stay away from all spurs defence
Have 1.5 ITB what would you do?
Ryan,
Coleman, VVD, Robbo, Zinc
Siggy, Zaha, Fraser, Salah
Kane, KingEither Siggy to KDB, King to Wilson, or Ryan to Ederson. You know, the usual.
Here is my pogba team...
Pope ( ryan)
Taa ake coleman wp/aurier ( diop )
Sterling salah pogba brooks
Wilson haller (greenwood?
Good enough?5th mid is donkey
Where do you think I can upgrade this lot with 1 ITB:
Pope
TAA- VVD - Zin -Oc'onnel
Sterling - Salah - KDB - Fraser
King - Murray
Sub: Button, Donkey, Wickham, KellyWhos O'Connell? Murray to 6.5 and button to keeper who rotates well with pope
Shef defender I think
Sheffield United attacking central defender.
No, really!I thought about this but there isnt 6.5 Striker I find interesting like murray early on. I like Jota but the fixtures and EL are really turns off.
Stick with Murray. Could be inspired. Can't really go wrong for 6.0
Yep, stick to my gut feeling, will changed it if I think I wont start.
Any other suggestions?I’d change Murray for sure. To Wilson and Fraser to Perez
And go Double BOU FWD?
rate my team fellas please
Ryan
TAA, Digne, PvA
Salah, Sterling, Siggy, Maddison, Brooks
Jiminez, King
4m, Max Aarons, 4.5m, 4mI dont rate Palace Def without Sakho, tompkins and AWB. would get someone else instead PVA. Also, I think EVE def is a trap without Zouma and Gueye.
Thanks for the raw opinions
I thought Sakho and Tomkins would be back for the season... Who would you go for over PvA?If this is the formation you like, I would do Siggy - Fraser in order to get that 0.5 then get Zinchenco. This means you got 3 BOU that I think is too much, hence maybe Brook - Gross?
I can do PvA to Zinchenk straight as they're the same price
OH, didnt noticed it. So I would do it, but keep an I on Mendy.
*eye
What's with the Zinchek love?
Granted City have Delph out to Everton, but what about Mendy?Isn’t included in preseason tour due to ongoing fitness issues
Another 4 game and 4 trophy season on the cards
wouls be surprised if he starts after probably missing all of pre-season
You’d hope peps expansive informative pressers would shed some light on that
Could play 3 at the back too I guess
Newcastle tabs Joelinton frlm Hoffenheim. 40 million € fee, club record transfer
Wait... I've just seen Ritchie is a defender... what?
For Bruce tho
He literally played on the right wing for the majority of last season?
As a wing back
which option is better?
A) Zinchenko + VVD + Wilson
B) Laporte + Robo + KingDefinitely A for me
Thoughts on Jimenez? Overperformed last season or you think he will come close the same amount of points this year?
Not going near for the start of the season due to an unrested summer and Europe commitments + poor fixtures
fair enough...but even if he gets 20 points less than last season, he would still be good value at 7.5m
One to add later after fixture swing / Europa exit maybe then?Yep, although I’m more looking at switching out deul for jota
Haller is a better option at that price imo
hesitant to add Haller straight away....watchlist for now
High risk high reward. Less than 1% ownership and I dont expect that to cross 5% 😉
Notes on Arsenal Bayern
- Aubameyang played on the right but still looked very threatening. Bagged one assist, and laid on another 3 chances. Also had a couple of efforts on goal. Why you wouldn't play him as your central striker over Lacazette i don't know
- Ozil, 7.5m he looked very threatening. Got forward a lot and played as a 2nd striker at times. Created chances, but more importantly, looked like he had goal threat which he doesn't always have.
For those considering Rob Holding, i'd say Emery will look to start with 4 at the back and play Mustafi and Sokratis as the CBs.Holding is still recovering, I’d imagine Holding pushes his way in after a few weeks for Mustafi.
Cheers! How did Lacazette look?
Average. If you ask me, he's a problem for Arsenal. Aubameyang should be their central striker, their focal point. Ozil should play behind and they should flank him with two wingers, Zaha/Pepe/Everton and Nelson/Mkhi.
Lacazette should be an impact sub, or sold to raise funds.Yikes, cheers!
Guys, what do you think about Aurier/KPW? Will one of them get nailed or not?
Avoid for now. Foyth may get the nod after he returns from suspension.
Hows my team looking lads?
Pope
TAA VVD Digne Zinchenko
Salah KDB Perez
Kane Haller King
Button Dendo Hayden Rico
Feedback appreciated 🙂Looks good
I’d prob start with Wilson & Coleman over haller & digneLooks good. Haller one to watch.
Just for giggles, what do you think will be the most common transfer between GW1 & 2. I'm going Sigurdson out, Richarlson in.
Looking at that 40% ownership I think it might be Jiminez out, Wilson/Haller/Giroud in
This
Salah out, Mane in.
Everybody doing a - 8 to get Kane in.
Aubameyang. He looked razor sharp vs Bayern.
Easy. Kane->Aubameyang after GW2, after Auba bangs em in vs Burnley and Kane blanks vs City.
King out, Origi in after Origi scores a brace and casuals panic and then Mane and Firmino start instead.
King out, anybody 6.5 in.
Definitely this
Siggy and Bilva
Or
Sterling and 4.5If it means starting the 4.5, Siggy and B.Silva.
5 years, 2 months ago
Thoughts on Rashford as an option?
If he’s United number 9 surely 8.5 is good value?
