So if Man U buy another player for 32mill they will have spent 1 billion on transfers since last winning the title in 2013 😆

In comparison to who? City and Chelsea who would be in the bottom half of the table / the Championship without rich owners or Liverpool who haven't won the league in nearly 30 years? United are fine.

So, Trippier sold, Foyth out for 'many weeks' according to Poch, and Aurier still injured (and arguably not trusted by Poch anyways)... do we have KWP at 5m in our teams?

I think he is worth a punt. Easy to replace him with another 5.0 or a high performing 4.5 if he gets dropped.

It's now being reported that Alli's hammy's gone again and he's out for a few weeks. What with Son's suspension, I fear Spud's first team is broken from top to tail. For me, it's avoid any of their assets at this time.

      1. Francescoli

Wouldn't Son and Alli out mean they are more defensive minded and more likely to keep a clean sheet?

I think in the modern game at the top level you defend from the front. A patched-up squad lacks optimum communication and understanding skills, which renders them more vulnerable throughout. Besides, I can't see their fans accepting facing Villa at home and playing more defensively.

    RMT 352

    Lloris
    Robbo, Zinchenko, Coleman
    Salah, Sterling, Perez, Barkley, Robinson

I think with their fixtures all their defence is good value - Digne, Coleman, Pickford. But I'd wait until they start firing before considering their midf or attack.

Think preseason isn’t as important as it’s perceived. Spurs beat Roma 7-0 or something under Santini...

Rich and Siggy are quite pricey...deciding between them and the City Silvas at the moment...it’s tough.

How would you spend an extra 0.5? Upgrade Trossard, Wesley or KWP?

    Pope
    VVD Robbo AWB KWP
    Salah Sterling KDB Trossard
    Wilson Wesley

    Button; Lundstrom Dendoncker Wickham

I've considered that but haven't had much luck in the past with rotating 4.5 keepers. Feel like the money can be better spent upgrading Trossard to Perez or KWP to another 5.5 defender?

I would with the 0.5 I have in the bank. However, not completely sold on Jota particularly due to Wolves fixtures.

With Brighton buying yet another striker today (Maupay), it's impossible to know who's nailed. Whilst Villa have bought over a dozen new faces this summer, it doesn't look like Wesley's place is threatened, so he's definitely the better punt out of the two.

  7. Canary_Kid

    Pope Button
Robbo VVD Montoya Bednarek | Rico
Salah KDB Ozil | Leitner Dendoncker
    Auba Wilson Haller

Bednarek rotates nicely with Leitner for the first 5 weeks, Ozil is my punt for the first two weeks with those fixtures and playing behind Laca Auba and Pepe.

I know it's a bit different but thoughts on this team?

    Zinchenko or Stones?

    1. Schliegs
      • 8 Years
      5 years, 1 month ago

Zinchenko should be locked for the first few weeks and probably a slightly better given attacking returns, but if you want a season keeper go stones as Zinch may lose his position as the season goes on.

    2. Andy_Social
      • 12 Years

Very tricky and a dilemma I'm pouring over. Both seem certain to start, but neither overly impressed in pre-season. If Zink doesn't step up, Angelino and later Mendy is waiting; if Stones stays at the same level, there's only Otamendi to take his place and I get the feeling Pep is cool on him.

On the other hand, while both are playing, Zink's good for more assists.

I'm currently nudging nearer to Stones for security of starts, but it's a close call.

Not exactly the same. Zaha's made it clear publically that he wanted to go to Arsenal and would like to move on. Don't think Fraser's ever spoken about wanting to leave Cherries. But if Zaha's a good professional it shouldn't matter if he stays at Palace.

    2. Andy_Social

Don't even know where Zaha's going to be. If he moves (Everton?) he'll need time to settle; if he doesn't - Palace 🙁
Fraser just seems a more secure pick to me. fwiw I'm on Pulisic and Maddison.

I like your thinking, but that only really works if you are planning on keeping the players for the whole of the season, which is probably a bit of wishful thinking as its a very fickle game. I don't like to think much more than 5 weeks at a time.

Any views on Firmino? Great starting fix, looked sharp in CS, and allows for movement to Vardy or even an upgrade much more feasible than just going with 6.5's...

    1. Amey
      • 5 Years
      5 years, 1 month ago

He's a patchy player imo. Always goes on goalscoring runs. GL if you get one.
Not consistent though. Prefer Vardy in that price bracket

    2. Netley Lucas
      • 9 Years

He's in the Bernardo trap, not enough product for the price and essentially wastes a good spot. Harsh but true I think.

I think you'd want 3 Liverpool players more than Firmino. After you've looked over Salah, Mane, 3 defenders and a keeper.

    4. Geevious
      • 13 Years
      5 years, 1 month ago

Not imo. He doesn’t carry much goal threat. Might as well just bring in Vardy (for goal threat) or Laca (for first couple of GWs) if you want a fwd in that price range.

Lowton the form defender from Burnley reading reports it seems. Why pay 0.5 more for Maddison over Perez or Tielemans?

Maddison takes set pieces so I cam understand that. That said I've gone with Tielemans.

Those 3 Leicester players are a bit of a lottery. But Maddison's underlying stats and set plays edge it for me at the moment.

Lowton is good but i'm more interested in wing/full backs.

I've no problem with the Leicester pick - in fact 3 midfs and Vardy are all very exciting and by no means a lottery. If I wanted to save 0.5 I'd choose Perez.

Burnley - JRod's had a great preseason so now Burnley have to start 2 out of 3 good strikers. I think Barnes is most at threat so I'd pick Wood.
At the back, your defenders in isolation are all decent choices, but collectively it's too weak. You have 2 premiums of whom only TAA is fully nailed. I don't know if you nicked it off me, but Taylor and Guilbert rotate nicely, but be aware Lundy will prob quickly be dead wood. I'd rather have an active 5th defender should one of the others badly lose form - I think a 4.5 Hammer works quite well in a sort of triple-rotation.
Are you full-on over Auba? Downgrading him to Laca would free up enough cash to fill in a few gaps.

I've had Perez in many drafts. I just can't decide.

Jrod has, and so has Wood, but Barnes has the best underlying stats by far. So again i'm unsure there....

I think my defenders are great for the opening fixtures :P. TAA & Zinc will start, lund is a cheap enabler and that rotating pair i've had penned in for a while now.

I did have Laca before and had KDB over Maddison with the spare cash, but Auba is just on fire.

    Is any one rotating defenders?

Have been looking at potential defensive rotations and found the following:

    A. Holebas A Smith
    B. Kwp and Ritchie
    C. Awb A Smith
    D. Diop and kwp

Honestly don’t really fancy any of them to outscored just going with one better defender such as digne.

I am going with a rotating pair, but I've got 3 nailed-on premiums, so if it's a choice, take Digne.

My pair are Taylor (Bur) and Giulbert (Villa)

Oh, I'm not to keen on that draft. I think I'd have Digne and Perez instead of Martial. If you've got 1mleft over, invest in a decent bench.

Cheers! Have .5 itb to upgrade bench. Waiting to see which positions will be on the bench before I decide how to use it.

I’m going to keep martial as I’m a Man U fan and I feel he’ll do well. He’s been playing striker. I think his first two fixtures are better than people think as Chelsea will push players up and play a high line and I think it might be an open game. Wolves will be tired from Europa. After that they have some good fixtures

Seems very template-y. What’s the fun in FPL without punts?

Having said that, if your strategy is to be safe, that team should do the job. Siggy is probably the only one I’d change - he has never really started the season firing as I recall.

It's more that I don't take unnecessary risks GW1 - no one has signed in summer that looks like they'll hit the ground running to me. I'm also always wary of promoted clubs (bar Wolves last season).

Yeah I've been burnt by it before, and now just want to get through the first 2-3 weeks in a stable position. It's like they say; you can't win the season in August, but you can lose it!

Does Moura get extended run now that Ali is out for a few weeks?
Zinchenko is tempting but feels like fools gold...
Leaning toward loris as set n forget keeper. Got sick of rotating and guessing which weeks to switch keepers
Feels like it’s much harder to put a viable fantasy team esp if you want to go against the template

Pope(152) and Heaton(149,150) most recent injury free seasons have outscored Lloris last 6 FPL totals(145,144,143,140,121,141)

Why you wouldn't want to rotate them or play either over Lloris taking a valuable Spurs slot is beyond me

Yes Moura will play definitely now. But might only be till GW3 when Son comes back from suspension. And I don't think Dele will be out for that long as well.

      1. Andy_Social

It's a good question actually. It does seem possible Alli will be out for the foreseeable, so when GW3 comes and Son is back, is Moura still in the first team? Intriguing, but for me too uncertain how Poch will juggle his lineup. It's a wait-and-see for me. Given that GW2 is City away and Son is back GW3 I don't think it's wise to put Moura in from the off.

        1. Kane5
          • 6 Years

Yeah I wouldn't have Moura personally as like you said lots of uncertainty. Lamela has had a great pre-season as well, so when Son is fit, Lamela and Lucas will probably be fighting for that spot. On top of that, Poch could play 3 in midfield with Winks, Sissoko and Ndombele (once Ndombele gains fitness and combinations etc) and then have only 2 spots next to Kane
