Scoutcast Episode 297 – Patience

The Scoutcast crew are reluctant to make drastic changes for Gameweek 2 after spending most of the summer carefully constructing their Fantasy Premier League squads for the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

This week’s crew of Joe, Az, Luke and guest Holly (aka @FFCommunity_) are hoping that patience proves a virtue as they attempt to stick by their chosen players.

But with all three promoted sides impressing in Gameweek 1, including Norwich’s talismanic striker Teemu Pukki, they are already hatching plans for change in the weeks ahead.

What to do with Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and the Premier League’s newest faces are among the issues covered.

Our podcast quartet also find time to ponder when may be the best time to wave goodbye to a player.

The next month’s best differential and clean sheet prospects are also considered as they take in the key events from the first Gameweek of the season and look ahead to what may be a difficult second round of top flight action.

    Chaps.

    Bench in correct order?

    1. A. Smith (vs Villa) slight chance of attacking return and/or clean sheet
    2. Dendoncker (v Man Utd) will play 90 but MUN defence fairly solid
    3. Greenwood (v Wolves) might only come on for a few mins

having the Perez v Tielemans conversation last week was practically impossible because everyone on here thought Perez was OOP for some reason...but who do you prefer as of now? Still Perez?

Lol we all only saw highlights and all his goals he was just constantly in the box it was an easy and simple conclusion to make. I think a 6.5m mid that gets in the box *typically* as much as he did in that team will be insane value relative to the playmaker

AY, you know my thoughts from a week ago - Leicester play/played 4141 and no-one listened, but that does NOT make him a bad pick though... you still prefer him to Tielemans?

Yes you were certainly right SS. As above for me he is still a better pick just.

also, he definitely will get into those positions, like plenty of other players will, doesn't make them all OOP, he's still a good pick

One issue is Praet seems to cover Tielmans and Maddison but I'm not sure Perez has cover.

About half way through last season I remember a good and detailed post about the increasing effectiveness of Left backs in FPL relative to right backs with a good explanation why they were scoring so much better. Can anyone remember, link me to or even better update the post and see how relevant it is now?

I remember the post. I also remember that the data was pretty much insignificant and that the conclusions were spurious at best.

Has anyone thought ahead as to when they will use their wildcard? I've read that 4 and 8 are good intervals. 4 feels too early for me though I appreciate there is evidence from last season that an early wildcard worked out well for the top players. Would be interested to hear..

I’m going after GW5 because if I go 4 I miss salah’s haul vs newcastle as I won’t want him for their fixtures after that and will be very embarrassed

However, you then have the problem of getting him back afterwards.

I consider him fixture proof, so unless he's long term injured or suffers a serious lack of form I don't envisage selling him at any point this season.

The fixtures shift nicely. The next shift is around GW12 when i’d Do sterling > salah. Nothing too tricky. The shifts are simple and lengthy so will be very easy to make

I tend to use it just before it expires or a GW or 2 earlier at the latest.

May use it earlier this year if necessary, though. However, having Salah, Sterling, TAA, Digne and Laporte kind of limits what I can get with the remaining money.

Since team will be 3 Liverpool & 3 City. Plan is to offload 2 Liverpools in GW 9-10. Offload 2 more of the remaining 4 in GW12. Then WC them all back in GW13.

There's talk here from a few we have unlimited transfers without using wildcards etc until the start of GW 2?

Some I know have transfered several players and took a -20 hit thinking this, yet it still shows 1 free transfer on their team.

    True or false?

          WC active (!)

So, made some bad choices before deadline on GW1. They involve players like B. Silva and Eriksen, and a couple of players who looked bad in the first match. Not keen on loosing any more pts, so I just went for it.

          How does this look?

          4.5/4.0
          Emerson l TAA l Zinchenko l Dunk l Lundstram
          Mané l Sterling l Martial l McGinn l Dendoncker
          Kane l Rashford l 4.5

No Salah is my biggest worry.

Shhh... I am also on wildcard, don't tell people that Mané can actually cover Salah. Let's keep it between us and utilize the extra 1.0 to build elsewhere( Defence for me ) 🙂

I really think the same too. Love the midfield you have there, I have the same except Buéndia for Mc Ginn 🙂 ... Mané will come into my team on Saturday morning if no price drop before then.

Oh, I misread. Tought it said you would go without Mané against Southampton.
Thanks! McGinn and Emerson are the two players I'm not sure about yet.

Emerson was very good from an attacking perspective, same with McGinn( although yellow card magnet)... Although I don't really fancy Chelsea's defence this season. McGinn is still a good pick tbh, could haul against bournemouth but I am not interested. Personally, I prefer the Buendia- Pukki combo 🙂

I picked Pukki over Rashford and Auba over Kane 🙂

                    Hi there,

For draft fantasy football is it worth holding on to Trossard? 10 people in the league so potential alternatives are limited but have the following in mind: Pereira, James, Mount, McGinn, Willian, Sissoko, Robinson, Almiron, Saint-Maximin.

                    Thanks,

                    Would you rather have

                    a) Ryan (2nd keeper) / VVD / Mahrez

                    b) Adrian / Emerson / KDB

Thinking with Kante back and Chelsea fixtures that Emerson is a must have... And that Mahrez is threatened by Bilva, and that means Ryan to Adrian is a possibility...

Wouldn’t mind saving this week but don’t want to miss out on price rises for Pukki and McGinn. Should I shift Deulofue and Fornals or stick?

                    Heaton
                    TAA VVD Digne Lundstram
                    Salah Sterling Fraser Perez Fornals
                    Wilson

                    (Button Deulofue Rico Greenwood)

                    Ings ---> Wesley

Never really wanted Ings but thought he maybe safest 6.0 pick
Aston Villa better fixtures but i don't know much about Wesley
Ings would be benched GW2 but i would play Wesley...

So is this a move you'd do?

                    Thank you.

Play A) Fornals or B) Lundstram?
Brighton always beat West Ham if it helps.
