Abraham in top FPL form as Chelsea and Wolves’ defences ship more goals

Chelsea put in a dazzling attacking display to emerge 5-2 victors over Wolves at Molineux, with hat-trick hero Tammy Abraham (£7.3m) stealing the headlines to underline his credentials as one of the leading value-for-money forwards in 2019/20.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-5 Chelsea

Goals: Patrick Cutrone (£5.8m) Tammy Abraham (£7.3m) own-goal | Abraham x3, Mason Mount (£6.5m), Fikayo Tomori (£4.5m)

Assists: Matt Doherty (£6.0m) Roman Saïss (£4.4m) | Marcos Alonso (£6.2m) Jorginho (£5.0m), Michy Batshuayi (£6.7m)

Bonus: Abraham x3, Mount, Tomori x2

With all five of the goals from Frank Lampard’s side being scored by players produced from their academy, this was a performance and a result that strongly justified the Chelsea boss’s faith in youth during his tenure at Stamford Bridge.

There can be no doubting, though, that despite the emphatic team performance and such a bruising scoreline, this was an afternoon that belonged to Abraham.

With seven goals from four league starts, and two braces and a hat-trick in his last three games, Abraham is continuing the goalscoring form that he displayed in 2018/19 whilst on loan at Aston Villa during their promotion-winning campaign from the Championship.

The 21-year-old was exceptional throughout the afternoon at Molineux, and despite scoring an own-goal to reduce his haul by two points, Abraham’s total of 14 points was his highest of the season and his third successive double-digit haul.

Owned by just 18.9% of managers, those who are still in possession of a Wildcard but may be considering deploying it over the coming weeks will find it difficult to resist the goalscoring appeal that Abraham is providing at an extremely competitive price.

The England striker was supported in his goalscoring endeavours by fellow academy graduates Mason Mount (£6.4m) and Fikayo Tomori (£4.5m), who both scored well-taken goals.

On his first league start for the club in 2019/20, Tomori fired an outstanding strike from 25 yards beyond the grasp of Rui Patricio (£5.1m) to give Chelsea an early lead alongside sending a timely reminder to Lampard that his assets as a player in the team are not solely defensive.

Mount then rounded off the scoring after good work in the final third to add gloss to the scoreline that Lampard will hope can give this Chelsea side momentum heading into their next three fixtures against Liverpool (h), Brighton (h) and Southampton (a).

Despite their highly impressive attacking display at Molineux, the defensive fragilities that have seen Chelsea keep no clean sheets in their first five Premier League fixtures were on show on Saturday afternoon, and managers monitoring assets of the west London side will certainly be more inclined to invest in their attacking options as opposed to their defence.

Whilst Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger (£6.0m) did go down injured, Lampard confirmed his removal from play was more precautionary ahead of a packed run of fixtures.

“He has a groin issue that he bothered, near me actually. It was more than a precaution. Hopefully not too bad. Hopefully, it is a quick turnaround.”

For Wolves, this was a result that continued their underwhelming start to the season, and any managers still in possession of defensive assets from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are likely to be considering moving them on.

The 5-2 defeat to Chelsea marked Wolves’ fourth successive failure to keep a clean sheet, and the added pressure of Europa League football seems to already be taking its toll on the West Midlands side before the group stage has even begun.

Whilst Patrick Cutrone (£5.8m) did register his first league goal for the club, there were very few positives for Wolves to take from the game as they were outclassed at home by a calibre of opposition who the Wanderers typically excel against.

Yet whilst Wolves fell short of the standards they set for themselves in 2018/19, this was a performance that underlined Chelsea’s credentials as being serious challengers for Champions League qualification, whilst pointing to some extremely promising work being done by manager Lampard.

If the Chelsea boss can persist in his faith of players such as Mount and Abraham, who are presently performing to an almost undroppable standard, then these are assets who could offer exceptional value into the Blues’ frontline.

Whilst Mount is currently the top-owned Chelsea asset with an ownership of 21.9%, this is likely to change in the build-up to Gameweek 6 as Fantasy managers flock to the irresistible Abraham who is seemingly in the form of his life; defying critics who claimed the 21-year-old could not make the grade in the top-flight.

Lampard will be extremely pleased with this result from Chelsea, and as the Blues bid to build on such an efficient performance with a challenging game against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge next weekend, it will be difficult for Fantasy managers not already in ownership of Mount and Abraham to continue ignoring these extremely exciting English prospects.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-5-2): Patricio; Vallejo, Coady, Saiss; Traore (Doherty 56′), Dendoncker (Cutrone 46′), Neves, Moutinho, Jonny; Jota, Jimenez (Gibbs-White 69′).

Chelsea XI (3-4-3): Kepa; Rudiger (Zouma 46′), Christensen, Tomori; Azpilicueta, Kovacic (Barkley 70′), Jorginho, Alonso; Willian, Abraham (Batshuayi 77′), Mount.

What am I to do? What's wrong with this team? 1FT and 0.9 mill in the bank.

    Pope
    VVD Digne Zinchenko lundstram
    Sterling Salah kdb mount
    Pukki Wilson

    Button; Greenwood, dendoncker, Soyuncu

Do I need to be patient? Save FT?

Nothing wrong with it per say but could upgrade Dendoncker to Cantwell and play him next week.
      I'd seriously consider this.

You could also consider Haller over Wilson after next gw but it's a preference and less important than keeping a FT for injury.

Thanks. Those are good ideas. I do think playing lundstram away vs Everton isn't as good as cantwell...

Do we think Cantwell can keep his form up?

Considering getting him in for Dendoncker as I have the exact funds however this will mean I have to take a hit to get Abraham in next week because I can't afford him with just 1 transfer

Really? Before Barnes plays Norwich, and Abraham plays Liverpool? I feel like Abraham may have peaked already in the last few weeks whilst most of us don't have him, similar to Pogba immediately after Ole took over last year.

Soyuncu, Bednarek, Lowton, Kiko Femenia, Lundstram, Ward, Mings, Masuaku, (Tomori), (Aurier).

Burnley (and Norwich but waaaay too leaky) has really good matches. Newcastle West Ham and Leicester is OK. Watford and Villa is borderline. Palace Southampton and Sheffield is horrible.

Tomori is not guaranteed to start but he is so cheap you can afford to punt I guess.

KWP a concern but I feel he and Aurier are going to be rotated and Lundstram adds cover for this GW

Mane doesn't seem popular at all round here.

Sort of get Liverpool attacking fixtures look ho hum midterm. But Chelsea away is absolutely prime and SU not too bad either course and he's on cracking form.

        Naturally. And Sterling of course.

Neither is to be transferred out all season by the righteous

Another Mane beating Salah might change that.

          Salah 24K net out
          Mane 75K net in.

If I was on WC rn I'd possibly go for him over Salah to save that 0.9. However, not worth the FT for me rn.

Salah for me? Can’t have both is the issue

Is there a law? Double defence shouldn't be an issue and plenty went with double or triple City attack

Was thinking about doing Salah>Mane last GW, also told Salah nonowners, that got Mane, that Mane will score this week, told folks that i consider Salah>Mane, they called me crazy, "you wanna get rid of that beast that just scored so much" 😛 Tho no idea where i would put the extra 1m tho, happy with my team atm.

Would you be happy enough playing one of Lundstram(eve) or Rico(sou) next week if it meant being able to save FT? Which one, if so?

Also means taking the Dendoncker price drop rather than spending FT on Cantwell (also playing Pukki, Pope, Barnes in that game then)

Interesting. Was leaning towards just doing Dend to Cantwell to catch price swings. Suppose extra FT could maybe be useful next week? Do have Wc though.

Cantwell is not a 4.5 bench fodder, you can actually play him xP And he gives you money to spend on rest of the team 🙂

Wait - you saying I should spend the FT on Dend to Cantwell then?

Why wouldn't you? There is no point to lose both tv and expected points just to have one extra transfer. That isn't the idea of this game.

      No

It's an irritating transfer to make but the evidence is all there. Swallowing my pride and doing it now. I may yet have to take a hit in consequence but it looks like one of those season long rides which you miss at your peril.

I would do it. That transfer will require 0.2 extra next week. Also, if you need to make a 2nd transfer it is so early in the season that you'll be spreading the -4 over 32 GW's.

Any idea what to do here? Thinking of pressing the WC or perhaps wait after the pool-chelsea game? 1ft and 0.4m

    Pope --- Heaton
TAA Digne Zincheko -- Vvd Rico
Sterling Kdb James Cantwell -- Docker
    King Kane Pukki

A: Save FT. got Vvd 1st sub
    B: Vvd + Docker >> Soy + Mount (-4)
    C: James + Kane >> xxx + xxx (-4) with 17.6m
    D: Kane >> Auba
    E: James >> Mount

      B. Can do better than Rashford in A though. Make it Abraham, for example, and I'd say A.

    Good evening everyone.

Question for Sterling and KDB owners.

    Are you
    1) Keeping both
    2) Selling Sterling
    3) Selling KDB

I have both but can’t help but feel Sterling’s hauls are affected by Aguero pinching goals. But at least it’s likely KDB is involved with whoever does score? On top, rotation could come to bite.

If you are selling, who for?

I’m on WC and keeping sterling for sure, kdb I’m considering dropping for son but may keep for time being until spurs continue to show their potential

I'd do that exactly the other way around.

Sterling is doing just fine of course but it's the thick end of 2.5mill still and all the evidence suggests kdb will be on his coat tails all season. they were very evenly matched of course the last time they both finished a season.

KdB is very captainable if that's your issue.
