Dugout Discussion

Potter tinkers again as Murray and Duffy benched for Brighton

Brighton manager Graham Potter continues to prove himself as unpredictable as far as tactics and team selections are concerned.

Once again, he has rolled out a completely different system to last time out as the Seagulls prepare for an away match at Newcastle.

Potter has lined up his troops in a 4-3-1-2 system lead by Neal Maupay (£6.0m) and budget midfielder Steven Alzate (£4.5m).

Unafraid of keeping his senior players on their toes, the manager has also put Glenn Murray (£5.8m) and Shane Duffy (£5.0m) on the bench.

That makes for a centre-back partnership of Lewis Dunk (£4.6m) and Adam Webster (£4.4m), while Dan Burn (£4.5m) retains his left-back berth of a week ago after playing in the middle for the first four matches of the season.

Meanwhile, Martín Montoya (£4.5m) has recovered from tonsilitis and reclaims his place at right-back and Aaron Mooy (£4.9m) gets his first start in midfield.

By contrast, Newcastle go with their tried and tested 5-3-2 formation, led by Joelinton (£5.9m) and Miguel Almirón (£5.9m).

However, there is unlikely to massive FPL interest in this Saturday evening game as the most popular player on show will be on the Brighton bench.

David Button (£4.0m) remains in 25% of teams and is also the most fashionable shot-stopper among managers inside the top 10,000 as well.

Dunk is the most popular playing asset, currently in 11% of teams, while no Newcastle player is owned by more than Isaac Hayden‘s (£4.5m) 6.5%.

Newcastle XI: Dúbravka; Willems, Dummett, Lascelles, Schär, Manquillo; Atsu, Shelvey, Hayden; Almirón, Joelinton.

Brighton XI: Ryan; Burn, Webster, Dunk, Montoya; Mooy, Stephens, Pröpper; Groß; Alzate, Maupay.

Just drafted this WC and looks fantastic to my eyes. Feel free to tear it apart 😛 0.1 itb. Bottomed sorry!

    Heaton, Button
    Otamendi, Soyuncu, Tomori*, Lowton, Lundstrom,
    KDB, Son, Martial, Mount, Cantwell
    Aguero, Kane, Tammy

    * Will see if he continues to start.

My latest rank shoing 800k to 300k.

Have Salah, Mane, TAA and McGinn still to play in my starting eleven.

ARS most will have Auba. UTD many still have Martial cough cough. Chelsea many have Mount and or Tammy.

Hopefully the 4 I have left will make me shoot like a rocket up the ranks when all results are completed.

Haul my Pool boys haaauuulll! Fingers crossed!

It's that latter part that is the obvious issue. If he doesn't play most of the match, it's not great.

Bournemouth midfield is crowded, but they have a number of injuries. (Brooks, Ibe, Stanislas, new guy they signed etc.)

Whilst most of them are probably behind in the pecking order, there's competition for those spaces.

Digne is the next issue for my team.

I really want to keep him a bit longer but early pointers suggest he’s looking like a one season wonder.

Meanwhile, I benched Lundstram again today.

Last season was the year of the premium defender. This season it seems to be the year of the cheap defender instead.

basically but that was a clearer call, the aurier call was a joke and spurs woulda got another after that 100%.

These stats, I am sure to keep. Sheffiled had 2 whole shots vs Evertons 16, and won 2-0. This cant keep up. Digne in for points soon

Team Goals FPL Ass. Shots SoT Att. Ass.
      Sheffield 2 2 2 1 2
      Everton 0 0 16 3 11

      I have same dilemma.

May get rid and if he improves then get him back on WC.

Lucky with KDB vc and Lundstram coming 3rd of my bench. They saved my gw.

Norwich is a sinking ship. I wouldnt feel confident with Pukki and Cantwell double up.

IIRC the clamour was even worse after West Ham away

They’re shaping up as a real home banker team

Pukki is gold at the price and all the attack goes through him

Cantwell is good value - I’m rotating him with soyuncu

I've got both, no intention of playing Cantwell every week though, just a bench player.

Watford are usually a decent side, but City just blew them away today.
