Scoutcast to discuss luck/skill debate and budget defenders

Joe is joined by Az and David for the latest episode of the Scoutcast tonight.

You can watch it on our YouTube channel from 8pm BST to 9pm BST.

This instalment will overlap with some EFL Cup action so we will do our best to bring you live updates from those matches if they have Fantasy Premier League implications.

Some of the key topics for dicussion in episode 302 include the luck vs skill debate as well as budget and premium defenders.

Gameweek 6 was characterised by the benching of Raheem Sterling (£12.1m), a popular captain candidate.

The fact that he did not take to the pitch for Manchester City’s 8-0 win over Watford meant that many vice-captains came into play.

Some of those fell to Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), some to Sadio Mané (£11.6m), while others landed on Kevin de Bruyne (£9.9m) who scored a whopping 17 points.

Joe, David and Az will fight it out to decree whether or not those who got the Belgian’s haul doubled-up were reaping the rewards of a good decision or simply lucky.

Make sure you let us know your view!

Also, with Lucas Digne (£6.2m) disappointing his owners once again, we continue our debate from last week about the value of premium defenders moving forward.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 6:

isn't Lanzini out for like a month, while of course having a poor injury track record. So he needs to go, so i'd say A. Barnes to Abraham could be worth an extra hit on top depending on how much importance you place on those .1s

i'd wait for news on Mane to be honest. Long term I think those moves should work out, but it depends on the importance of the .2 (Son + TAA) will rise before the next GW as to whether you decide its worth doing it this week.

So when is it time to move on from a premium player? When do you stop declaring a premium player "premium". I feel if you are paying a high price you should be getting consistent high numbers week in and week out.

when there is another player you would prefer to have - of course removing any premium player can backfire but that's part of the game

      Ones I won’t sell.
      Salah and sterling.

I’d put Kun in there too. But I don’t owe him.

Them players. Even if you get a blank one week. You can be fairly certain they will get you a haul at some point.

You could argue that the likes of mane and son are cheaper and can haul, but they don’t do it on a regular enough basis

Thinking of punting on a Vardy (C) this week.
Have Sterling, KDB and Salah, but fancy a Vardy haul at home vs NEW.

    Crazy or Genius?

If Maddison injured it may hinder Vardy's output slightly?

Depends which Newcastle turn up. If they sit then he'll struggle imo. He tends to thrive on the counter and with space between defence and GK. But a 10 man behind the ball Newcastle will be a game for madders or tielmens probs

I think they'll sit like Spurs game. Too risky to let Vardy counter them. They'll be awful to watch this season, carefully choosing games to push on.

NEW is a good defensive team, but not a bad punt. I would go Salah (C) but those are the moves that can help you climb the ranks

        Thanks.
NEW have conceded 3 twice on the road so far (Norwich and Liverpool), but then Sat back at Spurs and got a result.
I don't think I'd captain Salah though. He was really wasteful against Chelsea, but if Mane out, that could change his potential output.
        Tricky one.

Don’t waste a transfer on Ceballos if you were going to bench him anyway.

    Pope (Woodman)
    Robb, Zinc, Soy (Lundy, Digne)
Sterling, Salah (C), Mount (VC), De Bruyne, Cantwell
    Haller, Pukki (Wicham)

    1ft and 0.3itb

    Thinking about rolling the transfer this week and the taking a 4 point hit to do;

Digne, Salah and Wicham for Rico, Son and Vardy/Firmino

The Plan is to have Son for his good fixtures and then after the fixtures turn for Liverpool, WC (GW 11/13) and bring back Salah/Mane. Also want to move away from one of my big def due to rotation risk between Cantwell, Soy and lundy each week. Yay or Nah

Quick vote? Currently on a WC and have a dilemma of a couple of options:

    1. Auba Mane Otamendi Mount (Guendouzi)
    2. Auba Salah Soyu Mount (Hayden)
    3. Kun Salah Soyu Cantwell (Guendouzi)

    Team:

    Pope (4.0)
    TAA *** *** Lund Rico
    *** KDB Son *** ***
    *** Tammy Pukki

Bruh that is so difficult. Probably 3 as you have no Sterling but Tammy for Chelsea cover. Was harder when I didn't see other players tbh. Defo C with the current XI

Yeah, wanted to keep Mount, but I do have Tammy there to cover. Just means I'm starting either Cantwell every week as a 4th mid. Though could rotate with Guendouzi/Lund as well if needed.

Choosing between Cantwell, Rico, Lund and Guen is fine by me.

Sorry I have Tomori/Lund/Rico in there, accidently added two blank spots in defense when it should be one.

Exact money to do Maguire, Ceballos, Firmino to Rico, Son, Abraham.

    Pull the trigger?

I’m going to wait. Son doesn’t feel right as I’ll want Maddison after the Liverpool game.

Can’t justify selling Firmino before Sheff Utd either.

    Any advice here please

    Pope
    AMN Soy Schar
    Sterling KDB Mane Mount Cantwell
    Aguero Pukki

    Button Lundstram Montoya Wickham

    1ft 1.4itb

    Defence is looking ropey. Considering

    AMN to Alonso
    AMN/Schar to TAA/Guilbert -4

    Any suggestions?
