Pro Pundits

Introducing the FFScout Pro Pundits initiative

The Fantasy Football community has never been bigger, with over seven million managers picking a team each week. Of course, this also means its never been more competitive and harder to maintain a top rank.

Over the last twelve years, Fantasy Football Scout has established itself as the leading resource in this space by serving the entire community with tools and tips to help you stay ahead of the game.

This week we’re delighted to announce a brand new initiative to provide even more advice for every aspiring manager and consolidate our position within the industry.

Our Pro Pundits squad collects together some of the leading voices and rising stars from across the Fantasy world to share their insights. Every week these Fantasy philosophers will publish updates on their own teams in the form of articles and Hot Topics on site outlining their tactics and the thought processes behind their selections.

Our Members will also benefit from their full unedited insight and some enhanced elements and, as part of our ongoing commitment to support the community as a whole, we will be sharing a fair amount with all FFS visitors.

We will also be opening up a chance to engage with the Pro Pundits via regular Hot Topics and comments on the site plus appearances on popular videos such as the Scoutcast and Breakfast Club.

You can expect to hear a lot more information about recruits to the Pro Pundits in the coming weeks, but for now, we’d like to introduce you to a first names we have signed up.

Our Pro Pundit Signings

  • Simon March
  • Ash from FPL Hints
  • Az Phillips
  • Utkarsh Dalmia (FFS user zØphar)
  • lateriser12 (FFS user)

Simon March – Former champion

Simon March is a former Fantasy Premier League world champion, who claimed the title in the 2014/15 season and has been a regular on the FPL punditry circuit ever since.

He has made regular appearances on our videos and in the columns of the Question Time article – so we are looking forward to hearing more of his insight.

FPL Hints

Chief or FPL Hints, is a huge Fantasy community influencer. With over 75,000 followers on Twitter, he has been producing content on our favourite Fantasy game for years.

He has also been a valuable member of our Question Time panel over the last 12 months and has this season taken on the responsibility of selecting the best differentials each Gameweek. He will continue to publish this article for the duration of 2019/20 as well as providing us with updates on his own squad.

Az Phillips

Az has been a contributor to the site and Scoutcast guest for many years and we are excited to finally be able to promote him to the Pro Pundits scheme. The Brighton supporter has three top 10k finishes in his long Fantasy career, the best of which was a rank of 817 in the 2017/18 season.

Lateriser12

FFScout user Lateriser12 has a very impressive Fantasy CV. He has registered two finishes in the top 200 (one of them equating to number one in India) and four in the top 10,000 in the last 6 seasons. The secret to his success has been playing non-conventionally and fearlessly, swearing by ‘upside chasing’ and not giving ownership much of a look.

Utkarsh Dalmia (ZØphar)

An FPL veteran of 10 seasons, Utkarsh Dalmia has been a member of the site right since 2009 and has finished in the top 5k in six of those campaigns, with a best finish of 17th in 2010. A Chelsea fan based in India, he relies heavily on statistics for his FPL decision-making process.

Keep an eye out for Pro Pundits articles and Hot Topics from now on, the first ones should be arriving later today.

We have also added a section on the top menu bar of the website, between our ‘Gameweek Guides’ and ‘Articles’ tabs for you to have easy access to the latest Pro Pundits content.

Furthermore, we will be unveiling further new signings to the squad next week.

Thank you once again to you our readers for the support you have given us over a period of transition in recent years.

It is through your contributions and input that we are able to continue growing the site and maintaining its position at the top of the Fantasy field.

You mustn’t of seen him play much if this in your opinion man, he’s deadly crosser and defo more fluid going forward than that fool Kolasinac

Yes I do, ok fluid ie; better balance, touch, reading of the game going forward, off the ball runs etc is wayyyyy better than kola

So you agree that tierney has better crossing, touch, control, reading of the attacking side of the game, off the ball runs, balance is all better but you won’t have better chance of returns??? Ok buddy

hes a better player but wont have better per minute attacking stats because hes more well rounded than kola. its a bit like emerson vs alonso

emerson clearly the superior all round fullback but alonso is do aggressive going forward that his likelyhood of being involved in goals is superior

As bad as their start to the season has been, he's the highest-scoring GK so far. It certainly makes me wonder if that 5.1 price tag is worth it.

Then again, Wolves defenders is also an option.

That's where I'm at as well (Otamendi aside, who I haven't sold yet). On my current draft I have enough itb to pick between Auba or Kun. Leaning towards Kun right now, but I love seeing Auba play; owning could be fun. Worried about this GW's fixture though.

I wouldn't worry about one GWs fixture if you like him as a player and you want him for the long haul.

Arsenal do have a favourable run of fixtures (or plenty of games to disappoint, knowing how Arsenal are like). But Auba does seem to be able to get something from the games, even if they don't play good as a team. Of course, the downside is the lack of service which in contrast Kun is likely to get.

It might come down to if Kun is fit and available.

I currently have a defence of:
            TAA - Söyüncü - Otamendi - Lundstram - Rico

Otamendi is probably the one that needs to go, with Boly and Dunk as the most likely options. Not doubling up with Liverpool full backs yet I think, but I plan to have a way to get Robbo eventually.

If u are looking to get Robbo later on, it wud have to be in place of Ota, right?

Yep! In the meantime I'm likely to replace Ota with another defender, keeping some cash itb to make the transfer possible later on (in 1 or 2 transfers).

If I were WCing this week (sadly that ship has already sailed) I'd try and get Vardy, Tammy, Wilson up front. Can you do that if you sacrifice Mount? Maybe Salah to Mane too if necessary?

No way will salah easily outscore Mane over the season. In fact he may not outscore Mane at all.

people said this last year...and he didnt. He's scored two more points than him and never takes penalties. Salah's stats are better. There's no argument to be had apart from he's 0.7 cheaper.

Mane has played less min's and scored more pts, that is a stat fact. If mane was on pens you wouldn't find a bookmaker that wouldn't have Mane favourite to have more pts at the end of the season than salah.

dude...that's a ridiculous comment. Salah will score more points than mane...we are 8 games in. Salah is a far far better player and it will tell over the course of the season. End of. Mane has had a run of form...it will disperse shortly. Trust me.

Dude trust you, why? You talk bollox. If mane was penalty taker last year instead of salah mane would have had more pts than salah. That's a fact.

In light of your "fact", last season Salah scored THREE penalties in the league and scored 259 FF points in total. Those penalties contributed approx. 15 points (ignoring bonus point contribution). Mane scored a total of 231. That's a difference of 28. So, if you do the maths...your fact is very very wrong even with bonus points for those goals.

Secondly, statistically Salah has been better this season too. I quote this website from their very good article on Salah vs. Mane (perhaps you should read it ASAP):

..." across the first eight Gameweeks, Salah has had nearly double the number of penalty box touches per game compared to Mané, registering 9.4 per game.

By comparison, Mané has managed just 4.8 per game, indicating that Salah is still taking up the more advanced positions and touching the ball in the right area of the field.

This also means that generally speaking, Salah has been the busier inside the box too.

Across the first eight matches of the campaign, he has averaged 3.2 goal attempts per game, 2.6 in the box and 1.4 on target.

Meanwhile, Mané has managed just 2.4 efforts on goal per game and 2.0 in the box and 1.2 shots on target."

                  Mic drop. Lesson adjourned.

p.s. and you can trust me because I finished 2300th last year and you finished finished north of 200k.

Depends what you mean by easily outscore I guess, 2019 no one can deny Mane just looks more comfortable and clinical and that had continued this season so far. I own Salah but right now Mane had the shooting boots and confidence, Salah gets infront of goal and fluffs it more than he used to. All in all you save money

Fair enough, but 2019 is a long time and I think mane has comfortably outscored Salah since then and so far this season that shows no sign of changing. The stats are encouraging as a Salah owner but so what if he gets a chance more per game if mane is burying his ones and Salah is missing his.
Klopp tweaked tactics to make Mane be the guy that runs in beyond into the final ball a bit more that seems to have made the main difference

You are are obviously not that great at maths. Read my comment again bright spark. I think I said " if Mane was the penalty (meaning the penalties salah scored mane would have scored instead being penalty taker that year) (get it) Mane would have had more pts which is fact. Salah scored 259 pts last year regardless the BP take that 15pts off salah for the 3 pens he scored and give them to Mane for being the penalty taker and scoring the same 3 penalties salah scored That's 15 pts off salah's score last year giving him 244 pts total and add +15 pts to mane's score giving mane 246 pts.

My maths is 100 pc correct but your fantasy world involves Mane suddenly taking his first penalty for Liverpool, and skipping the pecking order which, he doesnt feature in? In this hypothetical world do you make excuses for everything by simply making up scenarios? hahahah Mate, give it a rest. You sound idiotic. The fact is he's NOT the penalty taker and wont ever be and therefore, Salah scores more points. End of story. Good bye

The person talking bolloxs about a fantasy world where Mane is suddenly taking Liverpool's penalties which, makes zero logical sense in light of fantasy football ......is you Frederick.... "if Mane was penalty taker he'd have scored more fantasy points than Salah."...But he's not even third choice...so, Salah has had a higher total for the past few years. You're clearly a tad simple so I'll leave you be.

also, your rather moronic point is like saying that if jonny wilkinson wasnt the penalty kicker for the england rugby team at the 2003 world cup then X player would have scored more points. Laughable. (plus Salah only took 3 of liverpool's MANY penalties last year).

That's a ridiculous basis for comparison. To directly compare quite simply remove the penalty points from Salah. Then redistributing to Mane is double counting . Any other way you wish to manipulate the figures ?

Cantwell isn’t good for a starter on a WC. Salah to Mane and Connolly to Maupay in a 343 or Salah and Mount to Mane and CHO to move Cantwell to Maddo in a 352. That way no need to bring in vardy

In all my years playing FPL, the best system has always been with 3 strikers. Get rid of connect and sell KDB as there’s too much doubt that I’ve seen in the past

I think the team is quality.

I would choose between Wilson and Vardy this week though and stick with the one you choose. I don't think planning an immediate transfer after a wildcard is ever a good idea because it takes away a precious free transfer that could be used to react to an injury, or move for a new exciting bandwagon.

Crazy that Johnny (5.4) and Doherty (6.0) more expensive than Boly (5.0). Rotating wing backs this year, and Boly BPs magnet.

Some tricky 50-50's if anyone fancies throwing in their thoughts...
          A) Vardy CHO Kun (Dendoncker fodder) (343) (0.9itb)
          B) Wilson Maddison Kun (Dendoncker fodder) (0.6itb)
          C) Vardy CHO Sterling (Connolly fodder) (352) (1m itb)

Also, in all, I can get Boly or Tierney. I appreciate the risks with the latter, but I'd like to take a punt on him at some stage with the fixtures.
          1) Get straight away (risk and reward etc)
          2) Go for Boly and use a FT later

Rationale being Newcastle are capable of being stubborn and hard to break down. I.e park the bus. Norwich can’t do that and have the leakiest def in the league

Potential for Rico assists, on set peices facing a leaky Norwich defence . its close though. arsenal a good side, however lundstram could add attacking returns against a leaky Gunners defence. Sheffield United also more defensively solid. Toss a coin.
