Six-time top 5k finisher Utkarsh Dalmia – aka Zophar –  talks us through the Liverpool options after Double Gameweek 24 was confirmed.

With Utkarsh drawing heavily on stats from our Members Area, a large chunk of this article is available only to subscribers.

It’s been a tough Christmas period. Games have been coming thick and fast and with the turnaround so short between fixtures, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have barely enough time to digest the information from one Gameweek before another is upon us.

The confirmation that Liverpool and West Ham will enjoy a Double Gameweek 24 (due to their postponed fixture in Gameweek 18) has grabbed headlines and, given Liverpool’s dominant form in the league, surely three assets is almost a requirement. Their players are already highly owned:

  • Virgil van Dijk (£6.4m) – 39.5% ownership
  • Sadio Mané (£12.3m) – 37.7% ownership
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.4m) – 34.1% ownership
  • Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) – 24.7% ownership
  • Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) – 18.9% ownership

The ownership indicates that most teams already feature at least one of Mané or Salah with at least one Liverpool defender. The question before managers then is where to invest in for the third asset: attack or defence?

Despite conceding the fewest goals in the league (14), Liverpool have kept just six clean sheets, approximately one every third game. They registered a total of 20 shut-outs last season, an average of just over one every two games, so there has definitely been some regression there. However, it is worth mentioning that they have banked four clean sheets in as many matches since Joe Gomez (£5.1m) was partnered alongside van Dijk, so there are signs of improvement and their defence definitely warrants investment.

Their two full-backs are compared using the Comparison Tool in the Members Area for the last six Gameweeks, with Robertson on the left and Trent on the right in the below graphic:

An FPL veteran of 10 seasons, Utkarsh Dalmia has been a member of the site right since 2009 and has finished in the top 5k in six of those campaigns, with a best finish of 17th in 2010. A Chelsea fan based in India, he relies heavily on statistics for his FPL decision-making process.

        Even with the “tough fixtures”?

And Richarlison has great fixtures after Citeh

        It’s definitely worth the -4?

I disagree. Feel like their next games will be narrow wins and having double Liverpool attack for the likes of SHU, TOT and MUN is a bit of a waste of 25M.

If you want double Liverpool defence for the DGW then sure but I’ll personally be bringing in Salah (already have Mane) for gameweek 23 at the earliest.

Spurs and Man U hardly watertight defensively and Sheff U been hugely over performing. I am very happy to have double Pool attack and will be sticking with it.

Neither of those options is inspiring. You've struggled because of a weak bench. The festive rotation is almost over. No point panicking now, too late.

I say play safe this week. Lots of randomness over the festive period. Very hard to predict the unexpected haul.

  8. Ginkapo FPL
    • 14 Years
    6 years, 1 hour ago

Rare moment when I would like some advise. I tend to think the advise of randomers is pointless without the context of understanding their perspective. However, this is an odd one:

    Deano, Martin

    Trent, Aurier, Sidibe, Lundstram, Rico

    Salah, Alli, kDB, Traore, Hayden

    Vardy, Jimmy, Rashy

    0.6itb 2ft

I want a new backup keeper and was also thinking Lundstram to Gomez. However I am well short of doing both. Whats the cheapest keeper I can get that is viable to play occassionally?

Heaton looks the standout option, navigating around SHU difficult fictures, but avl defense is dire atm

McCarthy is a bargain for 4.3 if you just want a playing GK (its his spot to lose i assume)

Personally I don’t like Aurier and could suggest him out for Gomez, is Lundy a 4.0 or a later version?
If at the lower end I would keep but if not I could live with losing, saying that I’d lose Aurier first.

Not sure if it helps but I also have Aurier and Lundstram (although both same sell price for me - not sure what your situation is)

I'm currently looking at getting rid of Aurier ahead of Lundstram.

Short term Aurier's fixtures are better but with your side you're going to be able to play Trent and Sidibe most weeks. Lundstram from GW25 looks real good again, and he's decent for GW22 against West Ham (h) too

  11. The Rock

    Gazzaniga,
    Soyuncu, Kelly, Rico
    KDB, Sterling, Maddison, Grealish
    Vardy(c), Jimenez, Ings
    Hendo, Digne, Dendoncker, Lundstram

4.9m in the bank. 2 FT.

No easy way to bring in Salah or Mane right now without losing KDB/Sterling. I could do Grealish and Ings to Salah/Mane and Greenword but not enough left in the bank then for TAA.

I am thinking of just doing Kelly to TAA this week and then in GW 24 bring in Salah/Mane for Sterling. Probably at that stage i will have brought in Robbo or VVD as well. Thoughts?

Can you not do Maddy to Mane? Must be close. But I think you are right that Sterling will have to go to afford Trent and Mane/Salah.

Your bench is already hesving, I wouldnt get Greenwood.

      1. The Rock
        • 16 Years
        6 years, 1 hour ago

I still couldn't afford Mane in for Maddy, even if i took a hit and also lost Ings for Greenwood. So i think it needs to wait. I feel like over the next 3 fixtures that both Sterling and KDB will match or hopefully even better Salah/Mane. Way better fixtures for them.

Greenwood is just cheap just. 4.3m and i feel like he should start seeing more minutes. He would never start for me even if i did get him. Is it the minutes that put you off?

        1. Ginkapo FPL
          • 14 Years

Its Dendoncker sitting in your team that puts me off Greenwood. You would be backing yourself into a corner. How would you mitigate for injuries?

            • 16 Years

I would transfer them out if I knew they were injured, otherwise i would settle for Deon's 2 points or Greenwood's 1 point.

Once we get past the Christmas and New Year games, how often do we ever need to use our 2nd, let alone 3rd sub? + still have 2nd WC in the back pocket to help fix things up.

Do the Kelly (or Rico) move.
I’d agree with Ginkapo and keep away from Deadwood.
I just think there are too many active value options in the likes of DCL/Maupay and tbf Ings has served you well.

Thanks HVT, I am keeping Rico purely based on fixtures (and better attacking threat). Kelly is a goner!

Ings has served me very well but fixtures are toughening up and i am thinking of potentially moving him on, especially if it free's up some needed cash. DCL is the main one i am thinking of replacing him with but not this GW anyway. Ings may well even stay too.

I’ve done the same with Tammy (kept) but likely move him to DCL after City leaving me with Vardy/Jimmi, As an early season Rashford owner his form of late has been frustrating to watch but c’est la Vie!

He looked lively at SJP but I agree he’s not that great of a pick. But I’m not sure Martial is either. Both transfers could work, both could backfire. I’m likely to pick the wrong one 🙂

Can't decide between Kane (c) and Vardy (c)! Someone help please!

Kane pros: better fixture, lower ownership so potential for huge gains, decent form

Vardy pros: scored basically every week before Liverpool and man c, had a rest last match, effective ownership likely to be huge so big risk if he bangs as non captain

I think vardy has the better fixture

Kane is sometimes DM, sometimes striker. I sold because I didnt feel comfortable captaining him anymore.

Need your help here guys, no KDB or Pool assets but I have 2 FT

I would lose Kane to help fun KDB, hold him for his 3 good fixtures then transfer to Salah/Mane for GW24. Maybe Kane to Jimenez and Grealish to KDB?

Also, you have TAA, who is a pretty good Pool asset 🙂

How does Aurier, Tammy > TAA, DCL look? Only problem is I would then double up with Everton.

    Hendo, Button
    Lund, Rico, Soy, Kelly, Aurier
    Salah, KDB, Alli, Richarlison, Cantwell
    Vardy, Jimmy, Tammy

Thinking similar myself with Rashford. Not sure about double Everton attack though fixtures are good after this week.

I'm a bit stuck. I'm trying to get to a double LIV defense and it seems like the only way to do that is downgrade Alli to someone 6.5-7 ish. Changing one of my keepers to a 4.0 won't give me enough money.
    Any other ideas?

    Guaita Ryan
    TAA Sidibe Soyuncu Lundstram Rico
    Mane Alli KDB Grealish Cantwell
    Vardy Jimenez DCL

    Empty bank.

      Guaita -> Button
      Alli -> Maddison

then you will probably afford doing Soyuncu -> Robbo.

I found a move that works that still allows me to have Spurs and keep my GKs.

        Alli -> Moura
        Soy -> VVD

        Worth doing it?

Would you do Maddison to Traore in order to fund Sidibé to TAA?

    A) Grealish > Traore
    B) Alli > Martial/Maddison
    C) Otamendi > TAA

    Guaita Martin
    Aurier Otamendi Rico Kelly Lundstram
    Salah KDB Alli Grealish Cantwell
    Vardy Rashford Ings

Liverpool are gonna win this season. Everything going their way. Lucky to win against Wolves. Can’t believe Wolves goal got put down by VAR. Wolves played well, unlucky in the end. Not just the Wolves game, happened in other games as well.

Just looking for some help with sorting out my Midfielders please you knowledgeable lot...

I've got Shelvey and Mount who I'm looking to swap out and I'm thinking of Traore and Martial (although would mean a 4 point drop for both as only have 1FT this week). Any suggestions/advice?

Need to focus on winning ML as removing Pool players for blank has seen me slip 50 behind.

ML leader has Mane, Robbo, TAA, Abraham, Cantwell, Traore, Greenwood (we both have Ali, KDB, Vardy, Kelly, Soyu, Lundy)
I have Salah, Aurier, Rashford, Jimmy, Maddy, Dendocker

Who would you prioritise getting from ML leader's team and who are good differentials.

Was thinking Rash/Aurier to DCL/TAA for free. Could get Martial next week.
