Scoutcast Episode 315 – Christmas hangover

With a hangover like this Gameweek 20 must have been a great party.

Except it wasn’t. It was awful. Hardly anyone turned up.

The only memories of the last set of matches are of being alone, crying in the kitchen, swearing at teamsheets and wishing for a captaincy haul.

Joe and Andy struggle through their hideous Christmas hangover and their unhappy FPL Christmas Gameweek memories, hoping for better luck in Gameweek 21.

At least they’ve been handed some clues about who will start on New Year’s Day as they consider the players most and least likely to take to the pitch.

They also look further ahead, most notably to Gameweek 24, when Liverpool and West Ham have a Double Gameweek. But which three Reds assets are the best to bring in? And are any Hammers worth considering?

Joe likes to look at fixture blocks during each campaign. With this in mind, our duo answer your questions about the best players for the next mini-season during January. Form, fixtures and a world-class manager mean that Everton’s troops look particularly appealing.

The communities’ roughest and smoothest moves also get an airing, Andy takes his turn picking a differential and there are clean sheets to also consider.

I know but he has still shown great form this season and last season, in a settled team and with great fixtures in the next 10 or so. Flappy is also a great choice but unstable team, tougher fixtures and the DGW is against Liverpool and Leicester!! How many points do you expect from him??

Ballsy. Not tempted by Gomez over VVD to save some funds? Not as much goal threat but 1.5mil cheaper.

I think Gomez will be much better value in this period and is also nailed. While VVD has better goal threat its not THAT significant in the points tally.

and not worth the 1.4mil extra imo. Could go either way tho if VVD decides the double gw is the time to bang a brace of headers again..

Liking the look of Vardy (c) in the DGW

I don’t see Wolves capitulating defensively vs pool to be honest, and the league could be well & truly sealed by then so there’s no guarantees Klopp even plays his first choice front 3 in one, let alone two games

He would have done last year but if he’d started the same amount of games tho? And rn he’s as nailed as VVD so I don’t see much difference.

How many attacking returns would he have needed to get 200 points though? And why didn’t he start the right amount of games?

He’s too unproven and a too much of a risk for me when here’s a perfectly good (great) FPL asset alongside him is my point

I much prefer to Let Jomez prove himself first before going anywhere near him - especially at the expense of a tried and tested utterly elite class, once in a generation FPL asset like VVD - and I really hope he does prove himself 🙂

Just look this season, highest scoring defender: 106 points, midfielder: 139 points, Striker: 144 points. There are 9 attackers who have scored more than Trent this year and none of the other premium asset defenders are even close to Trents output (barring maybe Robbo). Its just my opinion but i've not seen 5 at the back work.

Clean Sheets have always increased dramatically for the big teams after christmas. Its not fair to use this season as a comparison. Look at all past seasons.

Allison’s absence for 8 games and subsequent red card massively poured cold water on the pool defs though - those were not “normal” events

When Matip or Jomez play alongside VVD & Allison they’re tight

Other than Southampton away, Liverpool didn’t lose any clean sheets due to Adrian’s mistakes so Allison’s absence in those games barely had an impact.

Adrian was a terrifying downgrade from Allison - he had nowhere near the same presence or defensive organisational skills

Allison is world class, arguably the best GK in the world even.... Adrian couldn’t win a starting place at West Ham

Yes but that doesn’t change the fact that they didn’t concede due to his mistakes. Defence was very leaky at the beginning of the season which is why they kept conceding both in CL and PL even after Allison was back. Their defensive form improved only in the last few weeks.

It also doesn’t change the fact that if you take a defence with the West Ham reserve goalkeeper that concedes 9 goals in 10 games, keeping 2 cleansheets in the process - and replace that West Ham reserve goalkeeper with arguably the best GK in the world - that defence improves astronomically and can’t help but keep more clean sheets in the process

If Allison hadn’t missed those 10 games the cat would have been out of the bag much earlier about their defence

As things stand, people have woken up to TAA - it won’t be many more games before the same penny drops with VVD & Robbo 😉

I was excited... then I read that Laporte back to training in 10 days - which surely means an additional 7 days training before first sub appearance, and another 7 days after that to first start

Would put him tentatively back in 24 days / GW25

      Just in time for:

tot, WHM, lei, ARS, mun, BUR, che, LIV, sou

In the middle of champs league & FA Cup

If you’re on a WC, is seriously consider going double attack (Salah and Mane). Will be a huge differential, and also great for the fixtures before the DGW. your choice tho.

But will both play in both those DGW’s? There’s no pattern emerged from having both, doubtful they both play and higher chance of defence doing so. Will always cap the wrong one, unbalances team, both never haul together, it’s just a losing scenario, and has played a big part in my rank suffering and having to play WC

The League is pretty much done. I'm expecting Klopp to rotate more after DGW with Athletico in mind and hopefully further on in Champions League. Fabianski back and Moyes defence away, Hammers won't be the pushover of the last few weeks either. Beware of DGW bearing gifts!

    Who to captain:

    1. Vardy
    2. Mane
    3. KdB

KdB has 2 blanks at home this season and 9.4 PPM.
Mane also has 2 blanks but 8.4 PPM.
Vardy has 3 blanks (all against top 6) and 8.2 PPM.

      D. Silva is back and B. Silva got subbed off early last match so there is a slight chance KDB starts on the bench.

Also Ancelotti and Pep’s teams played twice in the past and Ancelotti won both. Of course the strength of teams is different this time but it might be an indication that Ancelotti’s tactics works well against Pep’s.

Based on those between Kdb and Vardy, I prefer Vardy.
