Top 10k Wildcarders realigning squads around Liverpool attackers

5% of the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have already used their second Wildcard of the season.

Just under 2% activated the chip at the first opportunity in Gameweek 21 and a further 3% have pulled the trigger for Gameweek 22.

Not surprisingly, it was the most deployed chip for the current round of action, with minuscule usages for the Triple Captain (0.07%), Free Hit (0.11%) and Bench Boost (0.79%).

Compared to the overall base of players, the top 10k have been a little more patient with their second Wildcards.

While 3.1% of these managers have overhauled their squads, 3.4% of the worldwide population has shaken things up too.

Top-level managers on the Wildcard right now have taken this opportunity to try and invest in some emerging trends.

Most notably, there has been a shift towards a double-up on the Liverpool midfield ahead of Double Gameweek 24.

Sadio Mané (£12.3m) is the clear favourite among normal top 10k squads, currently owned by 80.1% while Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) is not in the top-five most-popular midfielders at that level.

However, he appears in 41.6% of the squads of top 10k managers who have Wildcarded for Gameweek 22.

We see a similar story in defence with Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) in at least 78% in both top 10k squads and Wildcard teams at that level, while Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) appears only among the top-five defenders for those who have overhauled their players for Gameweek 22.

The Liverpool left-back sits in 22.1% of such squads, indicating that those making preparations for Double Gameweek 24 currently prefer the offensive double-up over the defensive one.

Liverpool’s upcoming double is not the only emerging trend at this level as Wildcarders have also targetted recent improvements at Everton and Southampton.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.9m) has three goals in as many Premier League matches since Carlo Ancelotti came on board, helping him become the third-most-popular forward among top 10k Wildcarders for Gameweek 22.

The Everton man appears to have come in largely at the expense of Tammy Abraham (£7.8m) who remains the third-most-popular striker among top 10k managers (35.3%) but has not been considered so highly by the Wildcarders.

Elsewhere, two clean sheets in the last four Southampton matches has triggered some interest in Alex McCarthy (£4.3m).

The Saints’ poor start to the season has helped their goalkeeper drop to a kind price, which could help the 22.7% of top 10k Wildcarders enjoy value for money in the coming weeks.

As we reported this week, Southampton have conceded just four big chances in their last four matches, second only to Liverpool during that period.

Interestingly, no West Ham player has made their way into the top 10k Wildcard template even with Double Gameweek 24 on the immediate horizon.

Jamie Vardy‘s (£10.0m) return from a recent calf injury will come as beautiful news to over half of Fantasy managers currently inside the top 10k.

After the Leicester man won the most recent Fantasy Football Scout captain poll, he has earned massive support among the world’s most in-form managers too.

In fact, his command of armbands looks to be even stronger at this level than in our own community.

35.5% of you voted for Vardy as the best captain option for Gameweek 22 but he has amassed a whopping 52.3% support for the armband among the top 10k this weekend.

Such large effective ownership (147.6%) could be the setting for a make or break week for some Fantasy managers.

Those perhaps best placed to capitalise if Southampton’s newfound defensive form does frustrate Vardy at the King Power Stadium are Fantasy managers backing Kevin de Bruyne (£10.6m).

Ahead of a trip to Aston Villa, who have conceded more shots in the box than any other side this season, the Belgian has been chosen as captain by 18% of the top 10k.

Arguably, the same goes for Mané captainers, as only 7.5% of the top 10k have handed their backing to the Liverpool midfielder ahead of a trip to Spurs.

I think DGW GK is overrated. RMT actually says I should play my first keeper McCarthy (cry) in the DGW ahead of Martin (lei+LIV). Which makes sense to me; Martin has almost no chance of any CS that week, while McCarthy has a chance.

I’ve got Ryan (Bou) and Martin, and this is my dilemma too. No way I’d be using a transfer to bring in Martin unless my first choice keeper had a bad fixture

What do you mean "If you believe the British media?"
His figures are slightly incorrect but Maguire at £80M and Wan Bissaka at an initial £45M is hardly peanuts. And another point United fans seem to have this thing that the British are specifically anti United . What a load of crap. It's called rivalry - there is plenty of anti Liverpool , anti Man City but it's ftom rival fans. As someone who has no allegiance to any of these clubs grow up.

Fans of other clubs used to hate United when they were good. They would often be referred to simply as "scum". These days they are a fallen giant and people aren't too fussed about them and feel a bit sorry for them if anything.

        Fleck vs Westham at home
        Maddison vs Saints at home
Of course Maddison is the better choice
        But
        Fleck vs Everton away
        Alli vs Liverpool away
Here Fleck is the better choice
I hope you have got my point, it is nor about home and away, neither fixture difficulty, it depends on the squad.

Nah he means him going double pool defence over double mid allows son. Whereas others don't have him as an option at all 🙂

Right. Son is a tasty differential but I wouldn't feel comfortable going into the DGW without Mane or Salah.

I like Son and want to get him in, but waiting to see if Spurs sign Piatek first. If they do, Son will be back on the wing - still not a bad option there though.

According to @BenCrellin on Twitter, 28 and 31 will be blanks, and 34 and 37 are the most likely doubles. BGW31 should be the largest blank with about 5 missing fixtures.

Some early thoughts here? Will obviously wait until games are over though.
Also, my god! i ACTUALLY have 2 FT's! what is happening to me!

Alot, more than in any other season i have played i think, but i'm so used to playing aggresively. I started to lose the plot with a strong of -8's before WC'ing desperately trying anything to keep afloat.
Pretty much anything i've done this season has been wrong, no matter what i've tried.

I have all chips remaining, but no 2nd WC, unfortuantely in my position it had to be played, otherwise i feel ground gained would be too late if played later on in season.

I have nothing to back this up of course but it feels like hits are riskier than ever this season with the increased amount of active teams and the information available on a widespread basis, it's still tight between the ranks so any hit that doesn't pay off seems to hurt.

          1. Salah’s Sonnet
            • 13 Years
            4 years, 9 months ago

No i completely agree with ya there, the whole game has shifted, hits have been much more riskier, but have also seen teams with each hit they've taken it's been a good result. Just such bad luck this season.

I have indeed, previous seasons i've taken more! Makes me think that if i'd of stayed more patient and conservative in seasons past, i'd of finished a lot higher, but this season the whole dynamic has changed, like the reasons mention above by WEW

I have take hits in 7 gameweeks. Out of four of those I went up in rank and in 3 I dropped in rank and I did get rid of starting players most of the time

Just how it goes i guess aint it mate. Overthinking has played a huge part in failings this season instead of just going off gut and nit taking as many hits. I plan now to make this my approach for the remainder of the season.

Chin up mate. He was blanking against us anyways :p, still do well this week I reckon unless poor man u show up then you're doomed. I've also 2FT and kinda shocked by it.

Probs join you on TAA, Robo and Mane and maybe the son punt tbh. Pool vs spurs game will be huge for info

Wil do matey, i'm actually surprised i haven't walked away from this season, but i know loads can change in these DGW's, even if i have indeed used my WC already.
Would hate for Rashford to bang in a hatty as i left captain on him for most the week 😉
Indeed, be a useful game to watch this Spurs Pool game for info.
I won't lie, i can still do the double up on Mane & Salah, but it would come at the cost of no keeper, and destroys my balance a bit.

Yh exact same. Leaves me playing Rico, Cantwell, Maupay or a fodder every week and no money itb to upgrade if they all start slacking. Think I need to look at it as a whole and Robo + son over Salah + fodder for example seems way better

Last season i was 800k in GW 28 after kun destroyed me. Finished season with 128 k OR. Anything is possible especially with Chip's left. I think you need to play with your gut feeling now. You'll be fine imo after GW 38 !

Kun destroyed me as well that time last season, was gutted, but managed to finish 40k so was pleased with that, and won all my mL's in the process.
Definitely, still got my chips, so there's those to look forward to, i think they can keep me afloat amidts the WC's that will be used by others who still have it hopefully. More guy feeling, and less hits, hope i finish respectively and that you're right 😉

Not wanting rivals to see your plans if in money leagues.

Privacy, e.g. you can find out somebody's name, and perhaps work out where they live, their friends and relatives and their workplace from the league's they are in.

Not wanting your employer to see that you are on a fantasy football site when you are supposed to be working.

Yeah either him or KDB for me. Leaning towards Salah. I know United usually keep it tight in that fixture but I can see Liverpool scoring a few this time around.

Serious question, is he actually any good? He doesn't make many saves or seem to command his box and I've seen him concede a few this season that I think a keeper should be saving, was beaten at his near post tonight for the disallowed goal.

Good finish tonight. Harsh to critisize him. Kept us in many games... Shows how good he is that he has the joint most Cs but not many save points imo. Have to be more alert. Defo best England goalkeeper and very commanding. Few examples of it tonight, also very young. Be buzzing if you ignore him and we steal him away for 25 mil or si

Watch this if you can be bothered... Title is a bit OTT but some great saves.

Pulled his hammy, quad or did his hip again from a goal kick. Moyes sounded slightly positive in his press after the game but I wouldn't want to own him and a 4.0 atm

I jinxed him with my flawless cursed season, i actually do feel 100% responsible.
Hehe, he had a hip injury, did not look good and looks a reoccurence of the original injury he had.
