Pro Pundits - Fábio

How FFS Hall of Fame leader and Virtual FPL champion is lining up for Gameweek 2

Current Fantasy Football Scout Hall of Fame leader, Fábio Borges has finished inside the top 5k in each of the last five seasons, and even won 2020’s inaugural edition of Virtual FPL.

After an intense Fantasy season in 2019/20, I decided I needed a longer break than usual in order to come back stronger.

Not only was Project Restart a hectic return to something resembling normality, the lockdown period was defined by my involvement in Virtual FPL – which threw four Gameweeks per week at us for nearly two months.

Pretty exhausted from all of that, I only started tinkering my FPL team for 2020/21 a few days before the Gameweek 1 deadline, which I think actually helped me. It made sure I was able to avoid overthinking and countless outdated drafts.

So, the first Gameweek went great for me with 82 points, which means I’m currently 231k in the World. Even more important than that, none of my players got injured or red carded and, other than a few small concerns, my starting 11 still looks in good shape going forward.

Without further ado, here is my team and what I’m thinking ahead of Gameweek 2.

On WC and really want JRod

Would you keep as is or switch it up?

      Meslier / Steer

Digne Robbo Shaw Justin / Mitchell

Auba Salah Bruno Klich / Biss

      Wilson Werner / Brewster

I’m switching Auba to KDB and Robbo to TAA eventually

No. You're ready to disregard 2 phenomenal seasons because of a sample size of one gameweek. It makes no sense.

Just because a player isn’t in a squad doesn’t mean he’s been disregarded.
He can come in at any time.

If you have TAA, you play him near every game, so it’s essentially 200 points for that slot in your team.

I personally think that having fixture based defenders at 5, and the extra 2.5m to strengthen elsewhere, you likely more than cover the ~60-80 point gain you get from TAA.

Especially at the start of the season given the games, I don’t think he’ll hit form, so you can always get him in when his ppg shoots up.

Robbo just looks much more dangerous and is now on a fair share of set pieces too. If on WC I'd go Robbo

Should I do no transfers or do a -8 of:
Vinagre, Son and Pepe to Digne, Rashford and Harrison.

I already have DCL and Hamez, the main problem is I want to keep Son but too many price falls will hurt me later.

Just move Pepe on if you can afford to bench vinagre

      1. schlupptheweek
        • 10 Years
        4 years, 3 days ago

I can easily bench Vinagre, the issue is I held on to Pepe because I was initially planning to have 2 FTs. The problem is having 3 price falls and 1 prise rise is pretty poor for 1 week.
Thanks for the reply though, I might just ignore my price woes and make up for it next week. Hopefully Pepe does something from bench this week.

Both have a great run of fixtures.
Digne for the set pieces, Saiss for the goal threat + 1 mill itb.

I refer you back to your original question. If he put the points up because Fulham are Fulham, I don't know how much the performance changes things. Arsenal seem to have a surfeit of *that* kind of player, and I have my reservations about Willian and consistent playing time from past seasons.

For one week, I think you're good to go with Willian. I just have that "once bitten, twice shy" about Willian from seasons past, and I'd rather reserve my transfers for my big hitters to get double impact from captaincy.

Willian should be good this weekend, but I'd prefer JamRod long term.

Quite a lot have done. I know he was rubbish vs Brighton but he was played in the wrong position, if Lampard plays him more as a no.10 he could make quite a few on here look quite silly. The main problem is not his talent but how long he takes to turn it on.

      1. @FPLMason
        • 12 Years

It's not that he was rubbish rather than the whole unit, bar Werner up top, looked a bit lost. I have Auba and Salah in case Kai would be played in a convenient manner. However, at the moment, Timo might be the one to consider from Chelsea rather than Kai. James looked quite good against Spurs as well. His stats are great as well.

Hmm could pay off but if TAA has a good week you could lose out more

For people selling Auba after this game week. Who do you plan to bring in?

Not selling. Why would you sell a goalscoring FPL midfielder in an attack-minded team. Can score goals against Pool and City.

Im in the same thinking as you. I can see people frantically transferring him out for the United and city assets and he will punish them. I think as a midfielder he's a potential 250 point player.

Apparently James Rodriguez went to Everton on a free transfer.

He only had 1 year left on his contract and Madrid wanted his wages off their books. So probably saved money letting him go.

James took a massive pay cut.

Madrid will get a percentage of any transfer fee if Everton sell him before his contract expires.

Probably a nice signing on bonus for him and agent though.

Everton being secretive on it. Between zero and 25 million. Quite a bit of leeway. Rockstar wages.

Is this WC G2G? Bench sucks but I am ready to risk it by playing Robbo, Digne and Lewis every week.

    Martinez
    Robbo, Digne, Lewis
Auba (C), Salah, Bruno, Harrison, Prodence
    Martial, DCL

    Steer, Mitchell, Buur, Brewster

Auba to KDB/Sterling will allow me to do Martial -> Werner or a 4.0 -> 4.5

It's good, any way you could find room for Saiss?

Would have Auba over KDB/Sterling this week. Can always do move after.

Only by downgrading a 5.5 mid and upgrade Lewis.

Thoughts on the following for a -8:

    Havertz -> JRod
    Werner -> Martial
    Adams -> DCL

    Opinions appreciated

I think it will pay off in the medium term to be perfectly honest. Does feel a tad knee-jerk though.

No way, Werner has a good fixture next week.
      I like 1 and 3

Just do Havertz to Rodriguez. I would keep Werner and Adams.

    Who to bench out of:

    A) Ayling
    B) Pereira
    C) Werner

The only reason I'm thinking of C is that I'm doubled up on Liv defence and I had a bad start (42pts) so willing to take a gamble to maximise my potential output for the week.
