Alisson and Mane miss out for Liverpool as Barkley makes Aston Villa debut

The final match of Gameweek 4 – and the last Premier League fixture before the October international break – sees two sides with 100% winning records square off at Villa Park.

Aston Villa v Liverpool gets underway in the West Midlands at 19:15 BST.

There are two significant changes to Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI, with Sadio Mane (£11.9m) and Alisson (£6.0m) both missing for the visitors.

Mane’s absence we knew about, with Liverpool confirming on Friday that the Senegal international had tested positive for COVID-19.

Diogo Jota (£6.3m) comes in for his first Premier League start for the Reds.

Alisson’s shoulder injury we weren’t aware of ahead of Saturday’s Fantasy Premier League deadline but rumours had gathered momentum about his unavailability this afternoon and the Brazilian indeed sits this one out with a shoulder injury.

Adrian (£4.5m) deputises between the posts.

Klopp shed more light on his first-choice shot-stopper’s injury before the match, saying:

Yesterday an incident in training, very unlucky – two players clash with each other, one gets up, one doesn’t. The one who didn’t get up was Ali.

So, after the first few things, we don’t know 100 per cent. But he cannot play today. We have to do further assessment but he’s injured, let me say it like this. Now we hope it will go really quickly.

It’s an international break, I’m pretty sure after that he will not be ready. Then we have to see week by week.

On Mane, the Liverpool boss added:

He’s good, he’s good. We are obviously in contact pretty often.

He is fine. Monday night, we played Arsenal, played a really good game, after the game it was a really good feeling. And then the problems started immediately. That’s how it is. That’s how life is, that’s how our life is as well, that’s completely normal.

Jordan Henderson (£5.4m) has recovered from a muscle problem but the England midfielder is only among the substitutes this evening.

Aston Villa’s starting XI shows only one change, with Conor Hourihane (£6.0m) dropping to the bench.

Ross Barkley (£5.9m) comes in for the Irishman and makes his Aston Villa debut, following his loan move from Chelsea.

Three-quarters of Liverpool’s backline and Mohamed Salah (£12.2m) boast double-digit ownerships in FPL, with the Egyptian and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) the fourth and third most-owned assets overall.

Emi Martinez (£4.6m), who has racked up 19 points in his new club’s first two Premier League matches of the season, is Villa’s most-owned player.

Aston Villa XI: Martínez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett, McGinn, Luiz, Barkley, Trézéguet, Watkins, Grealish.

Liverpool XI: Adrián, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, van Dijk, Robertson, Keita, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Jota.

    Humble brag - I’m in the top 10k, but I have no idea if that’s down to luck or judgement whatsoever. What a bonkers season.

      Similar position. Last year felt like everything went against me but so far this year so far I keep being bailed out from unlikely sources like Callum Wilson.

      Skill and research gets you to a certain point but beyond that it’s a roll of the dice!

      For the price 5.1 it seems to come down to Jorginho or Soucek and the former is on penalties (at least a share of duties)

    Knowing how things are going...next GW:

    - Son injured and subbed off in the first half: 1 point (and Mou says he'll be out for a while)
    - DCL + Rodriguez catch COVID-19 and can't play vs. Liverpool
    - Chelsea finally click with Pulisic back: Werner scores 3 goals, with 3 assists for returning Reece James
    - KDB brace as he plays his favourite team to haul against: Arsenal
    - Mitrovic brace vs. Sheffield United, Brewster blanks
    - Wilson red card as Man Utd thrash Newcastle - no one has any Man Utd players in their teams for it
    - Leicester beat Villa 1-0, thanks to a Barnes goal

    Foden -> JRodriguez, need to get 1.1 funds. Which little piggy would you sacrifice

    A) Jiminez -> Maupay
    B) TAA -> Anyone really
    C) Podence -> bench 4.4
    D) James -> 4.5, and do TAA -> Robertson for a hit (then I think B) to a 4.5 would be better, and robertson or taa after Alisson is back)

    Wow what an unpredictable season this has been so far. For the first time in 15yrs I feel completely lost with no clue what to do.

    Normally I have firm transfer plans and strategies that I have confidence in but I really don't know where to turn right now.

    Teams can look great one week and awful the next and I think the reason for this is that the dynamics of every game is different and is influenced by the tactics teams adopt, formations, strategies and the way they set up.

    People will now be drawn to Grealish and Watkins but their next opponents will likely set up completely different and not play that high line that Liverpool played tonight and they may not score even 1.

    The lack of fans also takes away home advantage throwing another factor into the mix and then on top of that good players can have an off day and average players can over perform.

    I normally hate international breaks but I'm glad we have this now as I'm sick to death of FPL and a break is needed. Have no interest right now in looking at or watching anything to do with FPL.

    WC2: load up on utd first before city
    WC3: load up on wolves/ city. Avoid southampton
    WC4: load up on liverpool/ leicester

    The only consistent is any WC will have brought in DCL and been paid back

    Not sure any week has paid back the conventional logic (which at the time did seem rational)

  23. Paulybaby123

    16 pt hit this week and still set for 85 pts or so after bonus is added.. Used my bench boost too but I saw this week as an opportunity to move up the rankings which I surely will even with the hit, which makes it worth the apparent 'risk'.

    I've already made 7 transfers for next week incurring a 24 pt hit aswel. Going for Kane as my triple captain choice next week to make up for the hit. Im pretty happy with my squad now and prob won't be taking any more major hits like this but it just goes to show that you CAN make transfers in this game and improve

      Yes what could go wrong

      24 point hit

      You only need 2 goals from Kane to just break even, Good luck with that. Kane will of course score in every game this year and at least 2.

      And then of course you will not be at all at a disadvantage for the 2 dgw in new year with you having

      - No triple captain

      - no free hit
