FPL Double Gameweek 25: Are Everton and Wolves players worth it?

It’s not just Arsenal and Liverpool who ‘double’ in Gameweek 25 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers also play twice.

The Toffees host Aston Villa before taking on the league leaders at the Emirates, while Wolves have a double-header of away games at Fulham and Liverpool.

In this article, we see if there is anything to like about the ‘other’ Double Gameweek 25 sides and if any players stand out as FPL targets.

EVERTON UNDER DYCHE

TEAM
Minutes per expected goal (xG)Minutes per expected goal conceded (xGC)
Post-Dyche82 (14th)75.9 (=6th)
Pre-Dyche93.9 (16th)56.1 (19th)

We’ll begin by acknowledging that three games is a microscopic sample!

The new Everton boss has only been at the helm since Gameweek 22 but even in that short space of time, the numbers are what you’d expect from a Sean Dyche-led side: solid at the back, so-so up top.

In both home matches, against Arsenal and Leeds, the opposition were kept to an expected goals (xG) total of under 1.0.

At the other end, they’re bottom-half material for everything from total shots to efforts on target.

But those Dychean trends continue, as Everton are ranked first for successful crosses and joint-second for attempts from corners per game since Frank Lampard exited. Over 40% of the Toffees’ xG under Dyche has come from set plays.

PLAYERS

Above: Everton players sorted by shots in the box (In) since Sean Dyche took over

And there’s a seamless segue from the last section as Everton’s set-piece threat is underscored by James Tarkowski‘s (£4.3m) lofty position in the above table.

Perhaps as much of an indictment on the rest of the team, Tarkowski also betters all of his teammates for expected goal involvement (xGI, 1.11) since he was reunited with his former Burnley boss.

We haven’t seen Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.9m) much because of injury but it’s clear that he’s got the skill set to prosper under his new manager’s get-it-wide-and-cross-it approach, with four chances – two of them headed – arriving in his hour-long run-out against Arsenal.

Do Wolves play in blank GW28 or do they have a good chance?

Wolves blank in 28 if Leeds beat Fulham in the FA Cup

Wolves could yet blank in Gameweek 28 if scheduled opponents Leeds United make it past Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round.

Hi Guys - my head is full of options, any advice would be much appreciated:

    Ederson Ward
    Digne White Shaw Trips Schar
    Martinelli Mahrez Mitoma Rashford Fernandes
    Eddie Kane Haaland

    A) Digne + Mahrez + Bruno > Tark + Salah + JWP (-4)
    B) Digne, Mahrez > Tark + Gakpo (Free)
    C) Digne > Tark (Roll FT)
    D) Wildcard to bring to do similar to the above + reshuffle the Arsenal boys + ditch Ederson

So, I still cant get Salah in for the DGW, but can get Dawrin/Gakpo.

I guess the game yday has actually made it harder to predict whos going to play both as yes Darwin scored, but they also got thumped so Klopp likely raging.

Shaw + Kane => TAA + Nunez -4 to have this squad?

    Kepa
    WHITE | TARKOWSKI | TAA
    SALAH | SAKA | ØDEGAARD | Andreas
    NUNEZ | Haaland | Gnonto

These move gives 3 more fixtures in total for this GW also removes 2 blankers of GW28

Can I get your thoughts on this team?

    Kepa (Ward)
    Bueno (Trippier* Shaw* Martinez* Patterson*)
    Saka Odegaard Martinelli KDB (Rashford*)
    Haaland Kane Gnonto

Currently have 9 starters (don't think Patterson will start), 2 FTs, 0.0M ITB. It feels like my transfers should be focused on defense where I only have 1 starter.

    A) KDB, Shaw, Martinez > Gakpo, TAA, Robertson -4
    B) KDB, Shaw, Patterson > Salah, Tarkowski, Mykolenko -4
    C) something better I am missing?

Hey everyone, more of a general discussion point than an RMT or anything like that.

I feel lost. Strange old season. Recovered from a 1m+ rank in the autumn and inched my way into the top 2k before a bad couple of weeks have edged me outside the top 5k (this is not one of those silly humble brags, honest - I’m not good enough at this game for that!)

Best rank I’ve had but I feel like I’m losing my way, not kept on top of doubles and blanks news (haven’t been able to engage as much over the past month as I’ve had a lot going on at home) and I don’t really know what to do next.

Feeling a bit disillusioned with FPL despite my rank. Maybe I’m just overreacting to a couple of bad gameweeks but anyone else get disproportionately frustrated with this game? How’s best to get around it?

I’ve got 2FTs this week and will probably try and attack it with at least one or two Liverpool players (not sure on Everton beyond maybe Tarkowski). Hopefully I can set aside a bit of time this week and plan properly for future doubles and blanks. GW29 looks like a decent WC or BB chance?

Sorry for the ramble - good to talk sometimes and I know there are plenty of good folk on here to vent with occasionally!

Hey PC. Just take it week by week man. There are real life players playing in a dynamic sport. You can't get every call right

Liverpool players seem to be the flavour of the week. ( although I see Arsenal to have a higher goalscoring ceiling )

Nice one, thanks man. I’m probably projecting bigger concerns on to this silly game!

You’re right about Arsenal. I think I’ve got the wrong three (White, Saka and Nketiah) so I might take a hit to correct that too this week. Let’s see

      Hi PC.

I've struggled plenty with this game in the past. Attributing real life happiness/frustration to FPL success/failure. There's no shame in it, and you're never going to eliminate 100% of it. You just need to know how to control it a bit better so it doesn't impact your health too much.

No-one likes a red arrow but you need to think two things:

Can i do something to rectify this situation?

If no (you don't want to make transfers, you just had bad luck/variance), make your peace with it and embrace the next GW.

If yes, work out what you need to do to fix it (make a transfer plan) and then act on it when you need to.

I've found this has helped me massively this year.

    WC26 and BB27 models say 100 points in 27.

    WC27 BB29 (models say 78 points in 29.

      Trippier Gabriel ESTUPIAN
      Salah Saka Rashford Odegaard MARCH
      Haaland TONEY
      Kepa Watkins Tark Aurier

BB in 29 would look a bit like the below.

      B.
      RAYA
      TRIPPIER SHAW ESTUPIAN AURIER
      SALAH RASHFORD MADDISON MARCH

Currently I got 6 players playing in 28 and have no plans to sell any of them. (Kepa Tarko White Trippier Saka Ode) Will be 7 if Liverpool is a blank (Bueno) and 8-9 if Liverpool play (depending on how many I get this week). Do you agree that FH in 28 is a no go for me unless WC'ing in 27?

If you're open to a 3rd suggestion, I'd consider just doing Shaw to Tark.

Personally feel there's more upside to TAA/Robbo than Tark. Probably wouldn't mind Tark as a Lewis replacement in case he doesn't play for City.

Will most likely downgrade Kane to Toney in time for the doubles in 27 and 29. May also go Lewis to Mee if I go with option A

        Nothing Ugly about it.

All the top 3 have good fixtures so that's at least half the Team cared for. The remainder will consist of Brighton/Palace who obviously double that very week, plus anyone else that I'd like for DGW29. Pretty Straight forward.

        Based on this, I'm planning for Option A) WC27, FH28, BB29

          • 8 Years

If you WC27 you should be able to factor in enough players to get you through 28 without using your FH.

          E.g

          Kepa
          Trippier Gabriel Tark Aurier
          Saka Odegaard

Plus one or two more maybe which is plenty?

            • 14 Years
            1 year, 8 months ago

It's possible and it might be plenty to some but I'm not sure I'd want to be targeting Everton or Forest players in GW27 and beyond.

Irrespective of them playing GW28 or not, I almost certainly won't want them taking positions/transfers for better picks, come DGW29.

In theory, it facilitates attacking the doubles in GW27 and 29, although only Brighton and Toney appeal in GW27, and Toney could be starting a two-match ban by GW29. Another concern is that FH won't be available to bail us our if we get the worst case scenario in BGW32, but we'll get better sense of that in a week or so. I am considering it, but I'm also modelling the FH32, WC33, BB34 option. Anyone able to navigate BGW28 with FTs should still inherit a sackful of doublers in GW29.

Absolutely, lots could change between now and then which alters the plan. Equally, banking on a DGW that late in the season can be just as detrimental.

I will always look to future proof the side with an eye on those DGW's also, but if it's allegedly 'so good' for the bigger teams, that will also play more into the hands of those who aren't using a chip.

I'm sticking strongly with B. It just feels like there's a lot more upside than the rest. Think GW34 will be the best doubles for the big teams, while FH29 can get those extra gains. Just got to fight off the BBers.

I want to WC and BB after GW30 for the next set of doubles so not over committing on Liverpool and try to navigate until then without a chip.

Obviously it depends on cup results, but most likely I will just wing it with 7 or 8 players in the blanks (28 & 32) as I don't see any significant advantage in loading up on Villa, Palace, Everton, Forest players, etc.

I'll probably try and BB in 29 if things go plan (couple of hits will be required along the way).

This would then lead me to a GW33 WC and possibly FH in 37.

      B

Usually a kick in a tail & would be the bigger boys possible DGW 34/35

My team is crying out for a FH/WC this week but I'm loathed to burn my bridges with the opportunities that future gw's present.

    Kepa
    Bueno Kilman Patterson
    Salah Saka Martinelli
    Halland Kane

    (Shaw Rashford Almiron)

Zero FT's and 0.1 itb leaves me with v little wriggle room. One option I am tempted by is Shaw > Gabriel (for a hit), as my defence looks awful. What do we think guys?

I worked out that WC this week puts me in the best position up until 33/34 and dont want to leave it that late as want to utilize it properly this season.

Is there a list somewhere of blanks and doubles for teams?

Who is blanking in 28? I swear I've seen people talk about it alot, but fpl.team doesn't show anyone blanking?

Everyone is blanking in 28 except Arsenal, Newcastle, Everton, Chelsea, Palace and Forest i think. Pool and Fulham possibly depending on cup results.

In the same place but no idea!

Considering Salah this week but also Haaland will likely get a double which includes WHU so half an eye on that.

Haaland's longest stretch between double digit hauls is 4 which happened once earlier this season.

He has had 4 games upto this week. This is his 5th week. I am looking at him as a possible captaincy.

Went against him last week (Rashford) and, admittedly, got lucky. I expect him to bounceback this week.

This is clearly imo NOT a week to captain Haaland. There are double gameweeks and he has a UCL game tonight.

    Which option looking ahead:
    a. Salah + Darwin (Lose Rash)
    b. Salah + Watkins (Lose Mitoma, save FT in 26 and keep Rash, get Mitoma/March in 27)

A if you have a solid plan to bring in Rashford again then it's fine.

    Thinking of the below moves.

    A. White > TAA
    B. Bruno > Odegaard (gives me Saka, Odegaard, Nketiah)

Then for a -4 the below

    1. Kane > Darwin (means 9 starters)
    2. Schar > Tark (means 10 starters)

    What do you think?

  29. v3n0m
    • 3 Years
    1 year, 8 months ago

    A) Martinelli + Mykolenko
    B) Saka + Emerson (-4)

  30. Malinwa

    Best option?

    A) KDB+Kane > Salah+Darwin
    B) KDB+White+Kane > Salah+TAA+Darwin (-4)
    C) KDB+Almiron+Kane > Salah+Gakpo+Darwin (-4)
