Charlie Adam has submitted an official transfer request to leave Blackpool with reports confirming the news within the last hour.
Adam has been subject to a mass of speculation of late with Liverpool believed to be in poll position for the Scot’s signature having tabled a bit though to be in the region of £4 million. Liverpool’s interest seems likely to have sparked this move from the Blackpool skipper.
This is hugely significant news for Fantasy Managers with Adam nestled in many squads ahead of Blackpool’s double fixture in Gameweek 24. Adam was due to take the field against Man United tomorrow night, having scored in Blackpool’s first fixture in the 2-1 defeat to Sunderland. Adam would now seem very unlikely to see action against United, disappointing the thousands who backed him for the two fixtures.
In the longer term, a possible move to Anfield would also have a huge impact on Adam’s potential as a Fantasy asset. Adam may well have scored his fourth goal of the season against the Black Cats at the weekend but these goals have all come from the penalty spot – he has so far relied on a staggering total of 32 Bonus Points in the FPL to boost his points tally and establish himself as a 21% owned midfielder. It would seem very unlikely that he could maintain his rate of Bonus scoring within a Liverpool lineup alongside the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Raul Meireles. In addition, Adam would certainly not assume spot-kick duties ahead of Gerrard. That’s presuming of course that Adam would win a regular start in Kenny Dalglish’s side.
Should the move to Liverpool materialise, Fantasy Managers would have to monitor Adam’s prospects very closely in order to assess the effect on his return potential. Right now, a drop in interest and heavy sales would seem a likely outcome.
