Once again the topsy-turvy battle at the summit of the Sky Sports Scout League continues with another turnaround. With the finishing line in sight, we look at the current cream of the crop, examine the transfer market trends of the past week and sneak our head around the door of the Fantasy Football Club dressing room…

The Scout League

Chris Pearce is the new leader of the Scout League. Having climbed to second last week, he topples Simon Davies’ “Nags Head Rovers” lineup to claim a ten-point lead over Paul McAnulty’s “Housewives Favourite” squad. Lewis Nicklen’s “Dreamboat” sit in fourth, while Pascal Evans’ has two teams sit in fifth and sixth respectively.

Our man Chris is some way off the top prize, however, with Simon Ward still out in front, a hefty 92 points ahead of the leading Scout contender in the race for the £25k top prize. With six managers in the top 20, the community’s Private League is still out on top but the lead is not as comfortable as it was: there’s only seven points between us and our nearest rival now.

A reminder that if you’re playing the Sky Sports game and have yet to join our league, you can sign up to the FFScout League with this Pin: 8004519. We have a home cinema system, worth £600, available to the winner.

Market Trends

The stunning hat-trick at Wigan not surprisingly lifted the profile of Luis Suarez and ensured that, after suffering an ownership loss last week, he’s back on the climb this time around. Over 40% of the transfers made this week saw the Uruguayan come into squads. Suarez is now well out in front on the value for money stakes when it comes to forwards, fetching 22.8 points per million, compared to Rickie Lambert’s 20.6.

As always, Robin Van Persie’s stock remains volatile and, with Suarez subject to so many acquisitions, it appears that the Dutchman has suffered again. He was transferred out as part of 40% of transfers this week, with only 10% seeing him transferred in – a big swing in ownership. Absent this weekend of course, the trade has been mirrored in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game where Van Persie has lost over 50,000 owners this week – easily the most transferred out forward on show. Despite the losses, Van Persie remains the most owned player in the Sky Sports game with over 47% of managers including him in their squads – in the FPL, that figure stands at just over 39%.

As expected, Gareth Bale’s stock remains strong with his run of goals continuing: he’s been party to over 30% of the transfers made in the last seven days – his ownership has climbed from 17% to just under 19% in the last week.

Defensively, it’s City pairing, Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta that are the big movers. They have benefited from a recent run of six clean sheets in eight by picking up further owners off the back of the win and shut-out at Villa on Monday night; combined, they have been part of over 43% of the transfers in made this week, despite facing a blank this weekend.

The Fantasy Football Club – Tonight 10pm

It’s a special night for the Fantasy Football Club as Noel Gallagher shuffles into the dressing room to talk all things City. It will be interesting to see if he feels the title race is still on. Join Noel, with Fenners and Merse from 10pm tonight on Sky Sports one, or catch the repeat on Sky Sports two tomorrow morning at 9am.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Benteke plays for *cough* Aston Villa *cough*. 😉

Joking aside, if I had Benteke I would captain him.. Look at his away record, Arsenal aside!

Budget restraints meant that I was forced to go the Remy route..

Thats tempting. My issue is that if Lukaku does a job over Swansea then I get a lead on Berbilly as it knocks Davies out of his team too. Whereas if Benteke wrecks havoc all I get is his points. I need something major to win this week.

thanks AK. would need immediate returns though as I can't see myself starting one of those norwich mids over sissoko or whoever I decide to keep from benteke/studge very often.

guess i'll just sit tight on marv and bring in maloney in a week or two. cheers!

    Is following advice overrated?

I benefit a lot from getting advice on this site, but I think I follow the advice I get here a lot less than I follow it. In other words, All the advice helps the decision, but more often than not I go against what most people said. Anyone else have this experience?

Agreed. For example, I'm pretty set on Sissoko over Sessegnon, but i'll ask anyway as confirmation of my own decision.

Both have similar formand fixtures but i think Sissoko is better value. But I'll ask anyway knowing there might be other factors I'm not aware of.

Hey EJ, yeah I agree, I like to test the waters and see what's the general consensus and take in any good advice I can. But at the end of the day, I'm grateful in some ways that I can stick to my guns whether it's for better or worse.

The easiest recent example was GW27 when everyone was swaying towards RVP or Walcott and somewhat dismissing Bale. I took all of that into consideration but made a gut call with Bale(c) and it ended up saving my GW as no-one else in my team scored anywhere near what Bale scored. Maybe that's a bit lucky but I was following the form. I knew I was taking a risk but I felt it was a calculated risk and thought the general consensus on here was primarily about the fixture rather than pure form.

In other words, when I was on here during the build up to GW27, Bale seemed like a left field captain pick. He was the 'risky' one. But looking at the form he was not a risky captain, the stats were all in his favour.

Then the next week everyone has Bale and can't resist captaining him. If you take heed too much of the general consensus it feels like you're just following the flavour of the month, the 'at least if we all fail, we fail together' approach. Whereas I like to keep myself removed from that a bit and aim to see things more objectively.

Yup. I have lots of examples like that. I think people have a certain style of playing, so even if the person giving advice is a good player and knowledgable, that doesn't mean they are your style of player. If you are agressive it could mess you up to follow the advice of a more laissez-faire player. But I want to know what that laissez-faire player would do.

Yeah, it's less about literally following advice to a tee but rather considering it rationally if you can and bouncing ideas against each other, weighing the pros and cons. Often you have a rough idea of what you are going to do but want to contrast that with others with different ideas and see how you react to it. Plus the knowledge that you are going against the grain can also help because you're aware that if your unique plan pays off it's going to be more of a personal success (i.e different) and might help you push up through the ranks.

Why would anyone keep him over Walcott? Crap fixtures and not certain of a DGW 33 unlike Wally

I didn't say over Walcott. I am keeping Walcott myself, just wondering if no one is considering keeping Fellaini as well. He did score against Man City already this year and then he has Stoke.

I'm chasing a 20 pt gap and it looks like that my rival will be doing Bale (c) so who should I captain out of Suarez and Benteke if I am to overtake him. I also have Bale but I think a differential captain choice will be better

    Any help would be appreciated

Benteke could easily be 4-5 and Bentekers is involved with almost every goal.

suarez if you want a differential - but 20 pts is not a lot to catch up , especially with dgw's ahead so bale [c] would be your best shot

Just whoever you think you will score the most points. 20 points is nothing, there's no rush to start taking risks.

Can anyone do any worse than 9 players? It's vital I get my captain right this week:

    Begovic
    Davies, Clyne, Martin R, Hill
    Michu, Bale, Sissoko
    Suarez

    C is currently on Suarez...

cuellar has more of a chance but i dont think either will play. [fellow cuellar owner] can't believe titus bramble is getting a game ahead of him

    it happens every week.

i spend several days with a captain in mind (this week: bale), then by midweek i want to get cute and go for lightning in a bottle (this week: samba) and then come friday night, a new name just screams at me and says "Hey what about me? Im flying under the radar over here."

This week, that name has emerged......
